I think its hilarious that the Apple fanboys love and respect when you praise the iphone but can never respect someone else's differing opinions when they choose something else.

Ive been using the iphone since its inception and am waiting for delivery on the iphone X. But out of all the iphones this one has me thinking of jumping ship the most. I love the iOS but the hardware has a lot to be desired. Yet i dont know if I really want get on the droid OS. I really think Apple dropped the ball on this. But of course gave enough to keep the fanboys another year longer.

I’ve seen a Note 8 and it was awfully nice, but it’s not compatible with my Apple Watch, and I’m not giving up my Apple Watch.

I, too, am locked in to an Apple Watch. If Apple made it compatible with Android I might consider a different phone. We all know that’s likely not going to happen.

That's what's disappointing, especially for those of us who have been long time iPhone users, but who decided to move to android. You express an opinion contrary to the views of the fanatical fanboys, and they all go on an all frontal attack. 😎

I posted this elsewhere, but here are the facts. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

1. Note 8 has a larger screen.
2. Size wise, it's a little taller than the iPhone 6 plus I had, so the size of it does not bother me.
3. It has an micro SD card, the iPhone X doesn't.
4. It has headphone jack, the iPhone X doesn't.
5. Samsung screen has a higher resolution than the iPhone X's screen
6. The notch on the iPhone X bothers me. The phone is not aesthetically appealing to the eyes. The Samsung Note 8 is beautiful and symmetrical. It reminds me of the monolith from the 2001: a Space Odyssey.
7. I use the S-pen occasionally for writing quick notes and to do lists. The iPhone X doesn't have one.
8. You can customize the Note 8. You can't with the iPhone X.
9. The Note 8 retains the virtual home button. The iPhone X did away with it.
10. Granted it is located in an awkward position, the Note 8 has a finger scanner. The iPhone doesn't.
11. Note 8 has a fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner, and a facial recognition system. The iPhone X only has face ID.
12. The Note 8 has 6GB of RAM.
13. Google Voice is well integrated into Note 8. I could, for example, unlock the phone with my voice. Google voice, in my opinion, is far more advanced than Apple's Siri. Bixby is far behind Google voice and Siri, I admit that.

I too went with the note 8 but I will say for me it was the little things. For me this is the reasons for and against my change from iOS to Android.

1. Always on display. Believe it or not this was one of the biggest reasons I went with the note. I was hoping apple would have included it with the shift to OLED. It's a small but amazing feature coupled with an angled wireless charger.

2. Screen size. I was using a 7 and it felt to small.

3. Google Assistant. Enough said.

4. I have always been more intergrated in Google's products.

5. I got a 150$ gift card with it.

6. I don't "customize" my phone much, but I use my phone the way I want to for me that means defualt apps chosen by me. I prefer chrome, Google maps, and many other alternatives to apples stock apps. Its anoying that downloaded apps can never be my defaults.

Here are the things I hated losing.

1. Lightning interface in my car.

2. Apps that, forgive the cliche "just work"

3. Homekit intergration for Phillips hue. Android does not have quick toggles accessible in control center or it notification center I found an app but I have to pay for it and it's no where near as good as intergration on iOS.

4. Small storage (kind of) I wish the note 8 had more included storage. Never been much of a fan of sd cards I hate the separate partition samsung forces on it. Would have rather an easy 128gb. Not so big of a problem and doable.

5. Bloatware.

For me either phone would have been a compromise in some ways so I made the choice of the one with the least personal drawbacks for me.

Have the S7 Edge. Plug in my aux for tunes and my USB to charge at the same time in my vehicle. Works well and don't need an adaptor that wouldn't charge my phone at the same time.

An adapter could be more convenient for you. Get one of these and just leave it plugged in to the power and aux in your car, and then you only have to plug one cable in to your phone when you get into your car instead of two.

Not going to work with my S7 Edge, but thanks.

Why stop there.

The Note 8 has a filing sydtem, the X diesn't.
You can create MS word, excel and powerpoint slides on the Note 8, try doing that on an iphone, it's almost impossible.
You can draw on the Note 8 as you can on an ipad, but not on an X.
The Note comes complete with almost a complete set of editing tools. You can cut out the shape of a picture (don't confude this with crooping) to almost pinpoint accuracy using the pen and then ilsuoerimoose the cut out on any other picture you want.
The Note 8 is a productive, creative and media consuming device. I would argue the X is limited to being just a media consuming device.
The Note 8 works as well as the X, and iszas fast. Doubting me, check out Everything Apple Pro's video.
The camera is as good as the X, if not better.
The screen can be seen in all weather conditions due to having twice as many nits as the X.
The Note comes with software which prevents oled burn. Apple's plot to prevent oled burn was Tim Cook's message to buyers after the event.
I could go on and on and on and on and farking on about how much more the Note 8 has over the X it's not even a joke.

So if you think this is a troll, or if you doubt any of this, then all I can say is check out the Note for yourself, or what a ******** of reviews. Again this is by no means a troll. Almost in every facet, the Note 8 is superior to the X. It just is. The op was on point.

Going back and forth about which device is better is pointless. Some people just prefer Android and some prefer iOS. Value to some doesn't come from a spec sheet or a list of what it can or can't do. For me, I value performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support first and foremost. That's why iOS is my platform of choice. Nothing wrong with the Note 8, it's a great phone. You just aren't going to convince anyone who prefers iOS. And this goes to both sides of the argument.

No phone is perfect, but for me the advantages of Note 8 outweighed its disadvantages. The always on display is one of many other advantages I forgot to mention in my list.

Im not an apple “fanboy” but i have a 2017 new macbook, a series 3 watch, carplay in both my cars, a 10.5 and 12.9 IPP, an iphone 7 and now an X.

My 7 was going to get sent back to ATT for the upgrade, but im thinking i probably will just send back the X

Its a decent phone, but when i place it next to my 7, which i owe only $389 on, i dont see how in the world it is worth $800 MORE.

Face ID sucks compared to touch ID at all but the perfect angle, which apparently i don’t use naturally, at least for me. The battery is abysmal (8 hours tops and its fully dead). OLED screen looks good, but its not even close to say an OLED 4k tv vs a regular 4k TV where everything just “pops.” The difference is BARELY noticable, and i mean barely. You have to seriously look for it.

Multitasking is now extremely cumbersome too with all the swiping and holding and releasing, was way easier with the home button.

I really want to like this phone too because for me its the perfect size. The plus phones are too big for one handed use, which i prefer. The X with a slim case is at the absolute limit of screen size for one handed use for me. I guess the pefrect phone for me would be an X with a home button ( which seems silly to remove to just place a stupid notch up top that limits useful screen space anyway), and maybe a little thicker to hold a bigger battery.

lol... yea sure.

Meanwhile a whole bunch of Android fans will disagree--and with good reason. The only way to go, they say, is pure Android, and the Note 8 certainly ain't it. After three AT&T Notes I agree. If you want Android, get a pure Android device. If you want Android apps, get a pure Android phone. If you want Samsung apps, Samsung skin, AT&T/Verizon/Sprint apps, and Android apps, get a Samsung phone. As for me, I am done with that crap for now. And I know how to hide the crap, use a different launcher, etc.--but the crapware is still there.

My current phone is an LG V20, which for the most part has served me well, and in some ways I will miss it.

And I loved my Notes when I first got them. But over time they all slowed down, updates were slow to arrive, and battery life plummeted. When it was time to sell them.... whoa big time price drop. I got more for my iPhone 6S+, nearly two years after I bought it, than I did for my Note 4 only a year after purchase--and the price was the same for each. And After each Note I was generally glad to move on, aside from the exploding 7, probably since there wasn't enough time for Samsung creep to set in before it was recalled.

So, no, it is not a fact that the Note 8 is superior to all others. Not to me it is not. It's close, and indeed if not for the iPhone X I would be getting a Note 8, considering the iPhone 6SSS+ that is selling as the iPhone 8+. But for me the X has reinvigorated the iPhone. Even then, if Face ID hadn't turned out to be so good I still would have gone with a Note 8.

If I HAD gone with a Note 8 I surely would not be here trying to justify it on an iphone forum. Maybe in the alternatives to iOS forum, but not the iPhone forum. And in that alt forum you would have no doubt seen me complaining about the awful placement of the fingerprint sensor---right next to the danged camera! My LG V20 has a rear fingerprint sensor but it is right in the middle and impossible to miss.

The X is not without its problems.

Face ID is proving a little unreliable and for some, a bit of an inconvenience.

Then you have the Notch which if we're being brutally honest, is not ideal.

Screen burn is a bit of an issue on the X.

And some people think the screen is too small.

And some are just completely bored with ios.

No phone is perfect, but the Note 8 is the best phone of 2017.

Being android it also has waze in android auto. Another perk over iOS and car play.

12. The Note 8 has 6GB of RAM. - But this doesn't really matter with Apple's well optimized software you'll see little to no difference in performance.

iOS 11 is NOT well optimized. Apps keep reloading after being idle a couple of hours, or sometimes even minutes! This was not the case with iOS 10. On iOS 10 apps didn't reload when you relaunched them from RAM. iOS 11 simply can't keep things in RAM.

Apple need to up the RAM or optimize iOS 11! I hope they will correct this in 11.2 or 11.3. But atm it's not looking good.

Upping the RAM will not happen, it might cut into their profit margin by $5. Apple will have 6GB of ram if we are lucky by 2022. The iphone has been out for 10 years and it only has 3GB. Please don't anyone give me the spiel about how well their OS is optimized. I beg to differ, their OS has gotten sloppier and sloppier.

Agreed that the Note is a better phone flat out. Just not what everyone wants, especially apple lemmings, they wouldn't know how to work all the features and wouldn't understand a phone could have so many more capabilities.

Case in point look at how many iphone SE they sold with leftover parts from iphone 5. 😀
The iphone XI could be a flip phone and demand would be thru the roof!!

Apple would convince millions that a two inch square screen is what people want, but samsung would have to do it first to mitigate their risk.

As a person that interacts with android regularly, you’re incorrect. Even most people who have always been android don’t know how to use their phones. It’s only tech people. Trust me.

The reason the note needs more rams is to compensate for the crappy interface that Samsung has slapped on top. Neither their interface nor android is intuitive at all.

Lastly, both os do pretty much the same thing. One may do something better than the other. It’s all in what your comfortable with and know.

I prefer not to deal with the cluster that is android. They don’t even have a messaging app that people like and use.

I agree with you that android is a fragmented interface and not as good, I was speaking mostly about the hardware, but there is a lot more you can do. I wouldn't think that many people who use the note 8 do not have some level of technical aptitude. That phone caters to a more refined user, not your average teenager taking selfies.

Where as the iphone can be used by anyone because you can't really do much in it, hence the reason most teens want iphones. That reason and it's also a status symbol to them.
