iPhone X Leather Folio

Received my black leather Folio case today - first impression is that it is nice, but overpriced. Not that I was overly surprised at feeling this way, as I have purchased official Apple cases for phones and iPads previously (although none of them cost £99!) & always had the same feeling of ‘OMG, I paid all that money just for that?’...but I still always opt for the official Apple case, as I know it will be a perfect fit.

Anyway, back to the actual Folio case itself. It looks slightly larger than I was expecting, but I am upgrading from a 5S, so have never got familiar with the 6/7/8 size...expect I will get used to the size quickly.

Honestly... the taupe is dope... TM Claiming it now...

I could have bought the folio tonight, but not a fan of that style case. I did by a taupe and charcoal grey one and am really pleased.


The taupe looks so good in person, i can't wait to get the phone in it. I normally do a black or brown case, but i felt these colors mixed it up.

Just wondering about Apple Pay/contactless cards. If you’ve got the cover flipped to use FaceID to pay, how do you stop the terminal registering one of your cards in the case?

Least with that case it auto goes to the home screen when it detects your face, means you don't have to swipe to unlock.

If you watch really carefully, that phone doesn’t have any security set up. There wasn’t a little lock above the time on the lock screen.

I still want to know if the front flap stays closed at all with the magnets once the phone is in the case. I love folio cases, but hate when the front flap just falls open without any magnetic closure.

I really like it. It’s definitely a keeper. I have had a lot of folios over the years. The front cover is really soft and comfortable to hold. I personally like to hold onto the cover with my left hand and use my right hand to touch the screen. The black folio is two tone. The actual case that the phone fits in, is charcoal gray as the inner pockets. It looks really nice IMO. The magnet seems really weak, at least without the iPhone. Although, I have bent the cover around to the back and held it there and when I close it, the lid stays closed. It seems like folding the cover back will provide a pretty good viewing angle when watching something on the phone. Anyway, I am happy with this purchase.

Got mine today as well. The quality is what I expected from Apple, outstanding! I purchased both the folio and a standard case. I have been interested in folios before, but always like to stick with the Apple branded case so never ventured to try one. Now that they produced one, its time...

I don't know if I'll like it or not. I certainly like the looks of it, the extra screen protection, and the auto sleep/wake function, but I'm concerned about the flap getting in the way plus the extra bulk in my pocket. Only one way to find out I suppose, and that's to try it out for a few days!

A card fits in nice and snug, those stitches keep it in the middle.
Regarding the dollar bill, I'm in the UK so can't help you there. But I can fit the new £5 and £10 plastic notes in there.
An old £20 is too big obv.

But, I love my ESR Slim Crystal!
Feels great in the hand and keeps the look of the phone with matching plated edge and clear back.
And it was only £6.99, lol.

As noted above, it will not keep the flap shut. This would involve a much stronger magnet in order to do this, which would then likely run the risk of messing with the magnetic strips on your cards that you insert into the wallet. That would be no good. The magnets in the cover are stricktly to work with the Hall effect sensor that tells the phone screen to sleep/wake.

I assume once the leather relaxes a bit, it will stay shut better. Might take a couple of weeks of use.

Don't be too disheartened, it is very well made and may suit your uses. It's just at that price I have to be super happy with it.

I just tried my phone in it. I immediately realized a folio is not for me. I love the look, idea, and quality... but that cover is just too in the way. Originally I thought I'd try it out a few days, but I'm just going to return it. Had the cover stayed in place better (magnet) and been lined with microfiber so I could skip the screen protector, it might be a different story.

I’ve decided to return my Folio as well.

While I love the concept, the flap just gets in the way too much. it’s also very difficult (maybe just for me) to get it in and out of the case. I actually ended up scratching the leather trying to remove the phone. I’ve ordered a cosmos blue leather case to replace it until I decide to go naked.

I have the black leather folio case on my iPX and like it so far. The only detriment is closure - the top right doesn't close flush with rest of cast. I doubled up a rubber band and have it bound so that the shape returns to a more normal setting.

When taking pictures the top screen cover gets in the way. When folded, it doesn't really sit flat - which is worrisome because I like putting my phone on my treadmill and watching music videos, movies, etc. as I run and I have a narrow lip to put it on. My iPhone 7 Plus fit fine - I just keep having nightmares about my X flipping off the treadmill and shattering, lol.

Ever think about putting it in a case (for protection but naked would work as well) and using a thin sleeve. I do that sometimes to protect the screen while in my purse, back pack, etc.

Thinking drop protection is minimal at best, though the leather case looks great and feels great.

I really am liking mine. I have the black folio. I have been buying these types of cases for over 14 years (I remember having one for my Sony Clie way back). Folios aren’t for everyone, but for those who like them, this one is close to perfect. Most folios have trouble laying flat against the screen when closed, especially when new. Although the magnet is super weak, mine lays flat even after having it folded back for about an hour watching HBO. It also stays open, which is not always that way with other folios. I accidentally dropped my X (I know, but on the carpet in my room) and the front cover closed during the fall and it landed face down. That was good. I like reading news, emails, etc with the iPhone laying flat on my desk and it is nice to lift the cover to slightly angle the X for faceID. I honestly don’t remember being so satisfied with a case in a long long time.

If your cover doesn’t lay flat when closed, just be patient. It may take a while for the leather to relax. Just lay the X face down when you can and don’t baby the cover. I have folded mine back to watch videos and held the X several times already by gripping the cover in my left hand totally bending it while looking at the screen and using apps.
