If people are smart when using EBAY they wouldn't except bidders with 0 Stars LOL.
Those are their competitors that don't plan on paying.
A lot of those phones will have to be re-listed after a no pay.

Let me again say, the Apple diehards created this. They've shown that will pay whatever and do whatever for an iPhone. These scalpers would not exist if the desperate pathetic buyer did not exist.

I'm always amused how people defend companies with "It's capitalism!", "Well, supply and demand." and such sayings but get mad when regular people make a profit out of basically anything.

Scalpers are prototype traders.
They buy something while there still is supply and sell it when demand significantly outweighs it.

The store didn’t exactly open at 12:01. It didn’t load for me until 12:04 but I was still able to grab an iPhone X preorder with a September 3 delivery. It’s tempting to try and sell the phone for a profit since demand is so high but I’d rather keep my phone. For me, It’s like playing a game. Getting the latest high demand product at retail price feels like you’ve won something. If I can’t get it on launch day, then, it’s like being defeated. I’ve skipped some products altogether just because I wasn’t able to get it on launch day.

When I was young, my friend had some Jordan sneakers and told me I should get some too because they were the hottest sneakers at the time. I agreed but I didn’t want to buy what I perceived as “his” shoes. I waited for a new design to come out and I got those instead. I finally had some Jordan’s that felt like “mine” because I got them first. I imagine a lot of people feel this way which is why you see people willing to pay extra just to get a product on launch day. If you see someone with your next new thing before you get it, then, it just doesn’t seem like it’s really yours.

I don't understand ... if someone gets an X on Nov. 3rd and sells it on eBay that day, if they ship it to the buyer it will arrive after Nov. 3rd to the buyer, so what is the point if it isn't local pickup?

Not waiting 2 months.

Meh. Apple is charging $300 more than they ever have before. Someone else wants to put in the legwork of acquiring this day one, they can have the benefit of the extra cash too.

Priority mail is two day shipping to most US addresses and three to more rural ones. Two days later is a hell of a lot better than trying to find it in a store after the launch.

I was under the impression that someone willing to spend that much more not to wait two months would be pretty devastated waiting the 3 days or whatever it would take to ship it lol. Either way, will have to see how this goes if I don't like my launch day X (which I doubt if there are no issues with the display like dead pixels or dust - that's my biggest fear). I wonder what an open box phone would go for.

eBay has long denied the seller the ability to discriminate based on buyer rating. Unless they brought it back since I dumped eBay two years ago, that’s not been an option for some time.

60 days after release vs 1 day after release. Which one would you opt for if money wasn't an issue and wanted something?

I’ll be the weird one here, but even if i was as rich as Bill Gates, i would NOT overpay for a phone just to have it earlier. Just the fact that i’m paying the person responsible for buying up iPhones and reselling makes me not wanna give them my money
Bill gates wouldn’t either. I remember an interview where they asked him what he gets at McDonald’s. Not I’m paraphrasing but he said a burger and a small drink. Why a small drink? Free refills, why spend more? Lol.

I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t splurge on things if I had an “unlimited” income. This phone may or may not be in that list though. I don’t really know.

Now's the time to talk about how the launch day lines at Apple Stores will also likely be filled with scalpers and exporters. It's going to be like time traveling to circa 2012-2013.

Just realized I have been here for 10 years. Hey MR, do I get anything for my 10 year anniversary or do I have to wait a decade? Just wondering.

If you listen closely you can hear all the scalpers twisting their mustaches so they fit in when they descend onto Oregon looking to score tax free (+profit) iPhone X.

Warren Buffett often gets a Sausage McMuffin or something every morning at work. No more than $3.17 each day. Now my mind is blown. Billionaires spend less than I do at McDonalds.

I hope no one here fails for the bait. If you want an iPhone and don't want to wait 6 weeks and you have an Apple store nearby, just use an app that determines what's in stock. You may wait a few days and you have to be quick on the trigger, but it's not difficult.

I know a lot of people are upset about resellers, but even though I do not partake in this practice, I see nothing wrong with it. Apple sells a product for a particular price. If someone wants to buy it for that price then fine...and it is up to them to decide what they want to do with that phone. It is not our place to judge.

As an example, would you be upset if someone bought the phone and then sold it for $100 less than what they paid for it? If not, then why would you be upset if they paid full price for it and then sold it for $100 more? I’m just illustrating this as an example.

They can use it, they can sell it, they can even blend it. It is their property and they can do as they see fit.

And yes, they have every right to buy it and do whatever to it. But that’s not the point here...it’s about people’s intents and how one of two sides is greatly affecting the other, and the other one is not:

Side 1. Someone intending to scalp/profit with nothing to lose.
Side 2. Someone who really wants the X and waited, and/or saved up for it, but the scalper gets his spot in line.

Which side are you on?

Another simple analogy to this:
If you are trick or treating and you find out all candies have been taken from all the houses, then a kid comes up to you and offers you those candies for a price, what would you do? Of course there will always be other kids who will buy them, will you be one of them?

Think about it: The fun of trick or treating ruined by a kid whose main goal is to profit from others.

"Unsurprisingly, hundreds of iPhone X models that were purchased via pre-order this morning are flooding Craigslist and eBay at huge markups."

I couldn't imagine why that would be :D *hint* *hint*

My state has no sales tax and is a conceal carry state. Sounds like profit + profit for me. My wife & myself welcome all daring thieves, we'll even call 911 so the local hospital we work at can pronounce a swift "time of death."
This is just weird. :|

Smart move Apple! Creating an artificial shortage and playing in on something Apple is mastering: GREED

It is only frustrating if being one of the first to own the thing is important to your self image. If it is, consider that you are probably a pretty frustrating person to be around.

You nailed it. This is just another nice gadget. This time next next year it'll just feel like the plain jane phone you already have, with all it's smudges and the same user experience you already have.

It really is amazing to me how our culture has 'trained' us to crave products so badly.

People who buy this at this prices are the problem, not people selling at these prices.

Below is one with nice price tag.
Plus extra €60 shipping on top., so $4120 in total.

Beyond the initial wave of true believers, Apple has a problem with future demand. The market and cultural dynamics in play most likely will make X uncool in 2018. Not that it would stop me from picking one up at a store soon!
