Yeah it is. For some, 1000 bucks is your $50
It’s still ridiculous to pay that much in my opinion.

And yeah, I’m one of those “some” that you mentioned who can afford a $1000 meals and iPhone X’s at $2,500 a pop, but I will not. There’s other things in life worth spending on.

That’s why I think it’s sad that others will.

Apple should sell the first 10,000 iPhones with nothing, but serial numbers engraved for $5,000 each, just so the rich people can buy without waiting.

If I wanted the iPhone X, I would wait till the 2018 iPhones come out so retailers and eSellers will have decent price drops to make the device more worthwhile. I am at the point where I wouldn't even buy a new phone at launch anymore because it will be laden with bugs, hardware defects, high price points, and less value. If it wasn't for the Note 8 BOGO special with T-Mobile plus the free Gear 360 camera (sold for $150), I wouldn't have gotten the Note 8 and I would be using a Google Pixel or LG G6.

Every time. The scalpers drive up the waits for those looking to actually buy and additionally try to make a profit on those they screwed out of a decent shipping time.

It'd be awesome if Apple made a move to screw all those looking to take advantage of others.

Go ahead and report the listings. It'll help take some of them down. At very least it means a lot more work for those trying to profit from the release and driving up the wait times for legit customers.

They aren’t doing anything illegal. What are you going to report? What happens on Nov. 3rd when people line up to buy it and then sell it on eBay? How will you prove that they are trying to make a profit instead of just deciding against it. They can charge as much as they want if people are willing to pay it.

We’re not talking about food or bottled water during a hurricane. We are talking about a luxury product that no one needs to live. Apple is making their fortune so the little guy might as well profit as well in my opinion.

I can state whatever i want, because no one can fact check me and say I'm wrong.

I can afford a prius...
I can afford a Tesla...
I can afford...whatever...

It doesn't matter what you can afford if you're not willing to pay for it.
And most won't pay up, because the little extra isn't worth it.

Don't get me wrong, I like Apple and their products. But this time they went way to far from their consumers and what their customers are willing to pay for a product.

I'll fess up and say this. I ordered three phones of course under two different accounts. One to keep, two to sell. My goal is to profit enough from two units to pay for the one I will keep. Call me a scumbag if you want, but paying four figures for a cellphone is insane.

The potential for good profit(s) from me selling two units will help to ease that four figure insanity.

With tax, about $2500 or so. You could have bought around 22 shares of Apple in January around $115 each. Apple today closed at $163.05 or a gain of $1056, plus $41.58 in dividends. I think it's just easier to own shares in Apple. But hey, thanks for purchasing, and I do wish you good luck!

No, people are choosing to pay a certain price for a specific item; they're not being tricked. And they're not necessarily rich, that's an assumption you're making.

But I like that you assume rich people are gullible. Most of the people I know who are truly wealthy are neither impatient nor stupid. Not all, but most.
That’s not a smart choice. If the item is valued at a certain price, for what reason would anyone need to pay double for. What exactly is to be gained from pay more on eBay for the same device you can get from an Apple store? That extra $500+ could be put into things like AppleCare, cases, screen protectors, accessories, food, My Leg, etc.
Most of the wealthy people I met in my life tend to do such things for their hobby or interests. I don’t find that very smart but I guess my upper-middle class self just doesn’t get it.

Sry donster28, I agree with you. It is ridiculous to pay that much.
I got your post wrong from the start...sry.

That’s not a smart choice.

It's only your opinion that it's not a smart choice, and what people choose to do with their money is none of your business.

The gaps in our opinions are likely rooted in the distinction between meeting vs. knowing wealthy people. To be clear, there's no inherent value beyond observation in either. But that's my opinion.

You have to be in a bad way to pay even more for the phone than the original asking price.

Every single person who gets the phone is paying the market price of the phone even if it's not realize.

If you have a brand new $1000 phone - and you can easily sell it for $1000 more, that means you're paying $2000 for the phone.

The other $1000 is just an unrealized cost.

In short, if you think someone is a fool for paying that price, then you should look at yourself in the mirror because you're just as big of a fool for not selling it for that price.

It is only frustrating if being one of the first to own the thing is important to your self image. If it is, consider that you are probably a pretty frustrating person to be around.
Actually it is not like this… Because those people that buy from scalpers Will not get the device on launch day anyway

I’m both well off enough to drop $1500 on a whim on a new iPhone X for myself, and, I’m also planning on selling a few iPhones I ordered for the specific reason of reselling.

Would I spend $2500 on a $1500 phone? If I just had to have it? Maybe. Not likely, but it’s not like I can’t afford it...

Some people need the phones. An app developer that needs an X to test, and didn’t wake up on time, that extra $1000 is a biz expense. They probably won’t care, as long as they get the phone.

Likewise, some people want it as a status symbol. Getting it 6 weeks from now isn’t good enough, and it’s worth the extra money.

Bottom line, where’s there’s someone with a product to sell, there’s typically someone to buy it, if the demand is high enough relative to supply.

It literally is the American Way™️

that's a really good question!
T-mobile devices aren’t linked to an account.

However, Verizon, sprint and AT&T will need the original owners phone number, zip and last four on initial power-on to activate. Unless the device is purchased at the Apple store full price, then it’s not linked to the account on initial start up.

Lesson: buy from sellers who know what they’re doing.

The best to cater to is poorer countries. They get it later and the prices are marked up anyway. Spending $1000+ for iPhones in South America or some Asian countries when originally priced at $700 in the States isn't rare.
