Every single person who gets the phone is paying the market price of the phone even if it's not realize.

If you have a brand new $1000 phone - and you can easily sell it for $1000 more, that means you're paying $2000 for the phone.

The other $1000 is just an unrealized cost.
I will admit the economics classes in college weren't a high point in my grade point average. So can you explain this to me? It doesn't make sense, to me.

I wish the providers would put a hold on transfers of phones until 90 days after ordering opens. That would let people who plan on using the phone have a better chance of getting theirs in a reasonable time frame.

For some reason, I was limited to 5 iPhone X 256GB all in Space Grey! I has a friend order another 5 Silver 256GB models and then they ran out of stock!

excactly my strategy as well, I am even thinking of selling them both. I still rock a 6s and don't need an update, the 6s still does everything I want fine.
Its just ask and demand, Apple creates dumb shortages and apple fanboys are craving for their newest social life enhancement tool.
Even thinking of skipping the X and waiting for the Xs , the refresh will be due in 9 months...
I predict iPhone X Plus by April 2018 :)

I hope people counter this greed by posting for sale ads with price at or below MSRP.

Good idea. Can I buy an iPhone X from you for $50? That’ll REALLY show the scalpers!!

P.s. I may have another iPhone X for sale for around $2000, if this guy sells me his phone for $50!

Free market, baby. I don't get why scalpers get such a bad name. If it was such a concern to Apple, they would (and could) fix the issues, but all this buzz helps them.
Scalpers got the bad name from things like concert tickets, where instead of you getting the ticket, the scalper gets the ticket, then turns around and sells it to you for way more money. Because he can. Not because he's offering any benefit, he just forced his way into being a middleman where none was needed.

You suggest that a simple fix is available to Apple - how do you think Apple could fix this problem, other than delaying the sale of the phone for several more months until they had tens of millions more phones sitting in warehouses?

Normally I buy one to rock and one to stock when it comes to shoes, but this was an easy sell to buy an extra to sell.

My state has no sales tax and is a conceal carry state. Sounds like profit + profit for me. My wife & myself welcome all daring thieves, we'll even call 911 so the local hospital we work at can pronounce a swift "time of death."

Wishing someone get robbed is just as bad if not worst than the scalper situation.

The last time I saw something like this, people were selling their spot on the waiting list (with a prepaid deposit) for Butterfly Labs bitcoin miners. Of course they never delivered any of them, BFL used the money to build the machines and "burn them in" by mining bitcoins for themselves, and only delivered them once they were no longer powerful enough. Then the Feds shut them down for fraud.

This is not to say that Apple is anything like the obvious scam that BFL was. But the scalpers ARE. If you buy a spot in a queue, you are not buying a product. You will get scammed.

Apple should sell the first 10,000 iPhones with nothing, but serial numbers engraved for $5,000 each, just so the rich people can buy without waiting.

That’s actually an excellent business idea. Like numbered art prints, a limited number could be sold at x2 to
affluent VIPs or nuerotic fans.

Why am I not surprised?

It's sad, but there are wealthy people out there that are willing to fork out that kind of cash just to satisfy their itch. And unfortunately, the scalper benefits from it.

I’ll be the weird one here, but even if i was as rich as Bill Gates, i would NOT overpay for a phone just to have it earlier. Just the fact that i’m paying the person responsible for buying up iPhones and reselling makes me not wanna give them my money
