I took a look at the X in store. Really beautiful design. Honestly, I tuned out the notch pretty quickly -- up until I turned the phone sideways. The notch looks super silly in landscape.

I DO think it's bad design. But 90% of the time you're using the phone (which is probably in portrait orientation), you won't notice it. So YMMV.

lol, Apple fanboys really trying to convince themselves the notch is good.

Face it, Apple had like 3 years to perfect this phone and they failed.

But whatever makes you happy lol

There is nothing good about the appearance of the notch. And I agree that it’s sounds ridiculous when people argue that it somehow enhances the aesthetic of the iPhone X. Even so, I really don’t find it intrusive. For me, the notch pretty much fades into the background. I generally don’t notice it. I can’t/won’t speak for others, but I would recommend folks give it a try before making up their minds.

Both of these posts sum up my thoughts 100%.

When I pick up my matte black 7+ I can’t stop noticing the bezels!

Not like I didn’t know they were there but now they feel like curtains that have extended wayyyy too far for the screen size

There was nothing petty in what I said, though your desire to turn this into a personal exchange is noted.

"Love it or leave it," right?
Nah, nothing personal here. I have no stake in Apple or who buys what. Don’t particularly care.

But really, to complain about such a thing seems silly, when you see how much more screen you’re actually getting for the device size.

Here it is next to my iPhone 7, with your post all the way to the bottom, which is how you say you read. Pretty much the same size, yet so much more room...

Only used in a store, but you photo makes it look like the screen is inop, just my opinion.

What is that line at the bottom?

Again, as I explained, the logical size of the screen is substantially less than the physical size due to the rounded corners. IOW, you're not getting as much (usable) screen as you think. It's bad enough to display text that is clipped by the rounded corners, which your photos mostly don't demonstrate due to the particular web page layout with its wide left and right borders that waste a lot of space, but to place the home bar over text as if it's struck through is truly awful UI design. Rounded corners just don't work well for displaying rectangular corner-to-corner content. Again, after seeing it, I don't find the notch a problem, but the rounded corners are surprisingly objectionable for edge-to-edge content that doesn't artificially limit its use of the bottom of the display. Ironically, the top corners don't matter because of the notch, or more to the point, the use of the ears to display status info instead of content.

I have to say, having the iPhone X and doing many things with it, looking at it.. I don't even notice the notch.
Did anyone else have a similar experience once they actually got the phone ?

I don't understand the uproar.

Do you watch a lot of video on your phone in full screen?

I do.

My own stuff iTunes, HBO, Netflix and MLB mostly. You can step it down to where you have full screen rendition.. just a few percentage points smaller. But not hugely noticeable either way.. it's still more than the iPhone 6S, 7 and 8 standard iPhone screen.

The letterbox/pillarbox video on the iPhone X is actually almost the exact same size as letterbox video on a 6/7/8 Plus screen. Zoomed in, you get a slightly shorter image that includes significanlty more of the right and left edges of the video - even with the notch. So, while you do have to deal the asymmetry of the notch, you‘re still seeing more of the video on an iPX than you would otherwise see on a Plus model.

Sorry what’s inop?

The line at the bottom is the home bar. The visual indication that that’s where you swipe up to go home from an app. I’d prefer if it disappeared after a second or two, like the scroll bars do, but I haven’t really found it to be annoying yet.

I wonder how much they will love love the notch when it's gone from the next iPhone Xs release. Lol
Acceptance does not equate to love. I’m not convinced you read this thread. Specifically the top 2 posts on page 2.

Inop is another way to say broke.

Thanks. I think I would find that more annoying than the notch. I don't remember seeing that on the one in the store.

I feel like the notch and bar are far less noticeable while using the phone. But in photos, they stick out like a sore thumb.

Same here buddy notch is a non-issue.

And if you’re watching videos in standard mode then you basically have the thick bezels on the left and right just like all the other iPhones.

Go play Alto’s Journey. Holy moly. The notch and bar at the bottom of the screen. It’s just...awful. I can’t imagine playing games on iPhone X, that’s for sure.

I don't think that people are "hating" when they don't appreciate the notch. I think all of their concerns are valid. It's just a preference. I bought the phone and I was a bit worried at first but for my use it doesn't bother me.

I actually think it makes it a bit unique. I tend to use my phone in portrait and don't watch a ton of video so that's probably why it doesn't bother me. But just because I like it doesn't mean anyone else should.

Also this.

Like I said above... it looks bad in pics, but in real-world usage you don’t really notice it, because you don’t stare at the top of your screen.

If you hate it during videos, just rotate your phone the other way so the notch is on the right. I find that it’s much less noticeable there than when it’s on the left.

Now you’re just being petty for the sake of being petty.

Don’t buy an iPhone X.

You aren’t meant to watch videos with the notch as that’s not real 16:9 aspect. Leaving it in the middle like a 6/7/8 screen is how it’s meant to be seen, not cropped in to fill the screen.

that's because when you are looking at pictures of the device you are not interested in the content and are concentrating on everything else.

once you actually use the device, you don't notice it anymore.
