I own an iPhone 10 and of course I notice the dumb notch but it doesn’t really bother me as much as I thought it would

I'm on a 2 year update cycle, and had always bought the 'S' version, starting with 3G, then 4S, 5S and 6S.. So this being an update year, but it's not a true 'S' cycle phone..

I can't help but wonder what they'll do next year.. Surely they won't call the next one the iPhone XS.. I think a phone that could possibly be pronounced 'excess' (even if incorrectly so) might be a bit much.. It would just fulfill all the negative stereotypes about Apple and Apple customers
I think its time Apple just drops the numbers and calls it iPhone.

It’s there, but you don’t really notice it as much as you might think in normal usage. It’s mostly background noise unless you go out of your way to stare at it.

I never wanted the Plus size.. I started with 3.5 inch screen through iPhone 4S and thought it was adequate. The 5S pushed it to 4 inches, and the 6S pushed to 4.6 inches or whatever it is.. the iPhone X is MUCH BIGGER than that, but it doesn't feel big and bulky like a Plus phone.. It's important for me that my phone fit comfortably in my pocket.

My phone is also my wallet.
How so?

I have to say, having the iPhone X and doing many things with it, looking at it.. I don't even notice the notch.
Did anyone else have a similar experience once they actually got the phone ?

I don't understand the uproar.

Yes, I felt the same way. I think the pictures made it more prominent, but after picking it up Friday morning, it did more or less fade into the background, except for Mail and other apps that have a white background. But on the home screen, I don’t really see it at all. And the Face ID has been very reliable and darn quick.

You aren’t meant to watch videos with the notch as that’s not real 16:9 aspect. Leaving it in the middle like a 6/7/8 screen is how it’s meant to be seen, not cropped in to fill the screen.
Agreed. When I started up a Netflix video, it filled from top to bottom, and left a bit of the sides black. It looked perfect. Not an issue at all. Unless someone zooms in to fill the corners for some reason.

That notch is ugly. Sorry.
Nobody is disputing that. What we’re saying is it’s not as noticeable during actual usage. Unlike looking at photos I’d the phone, where it sticks out like a sore thumb.

that's because when you are looking at pictures of the device you are not interested in the content and are concentrating on everything else.

once you actually use the device, you don't notice it anymore.
Yep, exactly.

It's always been the 'S' version that came the second year of a new design that made the phone everything it should have been in the first place.. I'm looking forward to see what they'll do next year
I’m guessing they’ll improve FaceID speed and angles. Well, hoping. Just like how TouchID v2 was much faster than v1.

The ONLY thing I don’t like about the notch, is that I can’t see when my iPhone X drops VPN connection. That is very annoying! Aesthetically while using the phone and all- I don’t even notice it.

How can you not see the notch, seriously?

It's the same way people didn't see the ridiculous chin and forehead on prior iPhone models.

At least the "notch" is full of sensors, cameras and a speaker. It's actually useful.

But there were HUGE amounts of useless wasted space in the chin and forehead.

I'll take the iPhone X and its "notch" over the literal dead glass on the previous iPhones. :p

Can this forum please have a feature where if you drill into a thread you can be alerted if you have already commented/been in it before.

I'm sure I've seen this type of thread once before or a hundred times.

Look, I'm sure a guy who tragically loses his leg in an accident wouldn't notice that he only has one leg several years later, but that doesn't mean it's ideal. The notch is a shocker, maybe not in portrait mode but it is in landscape mode. And lest we forget, a significant reason why people want big screens is so they can watch movies/videos/live streams in landscape mode. The notch simply eats in content when in landscape mode. Say what you like, justify it to your hearts content, dice it anyway you want, and seriously I hope you are genuinely not bothered, but it just does. And it bothered me enough not to get the X. Bad enough the X has a disjointed aspect ratio and a narrower screen, but the notch is the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

There is nothing you or anyone else can say which can justify a trillion dollar tech/smartphone company putting a black mark, or a cut out, call it what you want, sitting smack bang on your content. I mean if the notch was smack bang in the middle of your screen, would it bother you then? Because if it would, what's the f.a.r.k.i.n.g difference? Whether the notch is on the edge or whether it is in the middle, it's still blocking content. Seriously!

Not good enough from a company with nearly a trillion dollars in reaources. Quite **** if I can be brutally honest. But each to their own.

Apple put the rumor about the notch out there months ago to prep everyone
So it wasn’t a big surprise and yes after a while you really don’t notice it

You really only see the notch if you don’t have an X and you’re only looking at the 2D print advertising.

Do you like it ? I had several BookBooks for iPhone 6s but the stitching unraveled already of 3-6 months. Does the Journal for X support wireless charging ?

I honestly don't know about that, but wireless charging is no big deal to me. I'm in no hurry to get a wireless charging pad.. it's not that hard for me to plug in.

I notice the notch every single time I use the phone. Every single time. It doesn't bother me or i'd have returned it, but to say I don't notice it every time I use it would be a lie.

I don’t notice it at all, except for the lack of vpn badge which is the only inconvenience, imo.
