If the battery is really that much better as Ming is saying, I might upgrade.

I have a X and am very happy with it, the only thing I regret is not getting the 256 GB storage as I keep wrestling with storage space on my 64 GB unit. But despite that, I'll probably keep it for another year.

It’s starting to grow on me.

It’s definitely strange seeing these renders with that camera shape on the back, but for me, I just want to see what this technology can do. I know there are others Who do care about the aesthetics on an iPhone, but for me, I really don’t care what the back of the iPhone looks like, but I was also one that never had a problem with the ‘notch’ either.

Sometimes technology isn’t always the most pleasant looking in terms of design, but it’s about the execution of what it delivers.

The iPad to me is redundant. iPhone Xs or Xs Max and MacBook seem to be the way to go.

Unless your a power user of iPad!? Until they intentionally stop handicapping it, I'll never consider iPad again.
I would consider myself a “power user“ of the iPad, having found apps and workflows that get the job done for me. Plus, I have some very specific tasks that cannot be done on a MacBook, like drawing by hand, or performing sheet music, which my 12.9 iPad Pro does beautifully! (Was hoping the Max would substitute for a 2nd smaller iPad for on-the-go).
When I need to do “full blown“ computer work, my iMac is on my desk. So, in my case at least, a laptop is “redundant“.

When I'm at home, I prefer using the iPad and a pair of wireless headphones, to the iPhone, for media consumption. I'm definitely in the 'smaller phone' camp, such that the X is about as large as I would ever go as I can still comfortably 'pocket' it. Any larger, and it's simply too much.

I agree 100% with Apple intentionally handicapping the iPad.

What I am finding, is that I've shifted my powerful work(gaming, video/image processing) off to a PC, and now my Apple usage is more book keeping, development, media consumption type work.

If the phone look like the renders, definitely not. Sure the technology may be awesome. But I dont buy an ugly car just because it have a cool feature. The car need to look good.

Same goes with the iPhone. If look as bad as the renders (cameras), Im gonna wait.

My opinion, I don’t think your car example is relevant to an iPhone. And iPhone is a multi-tool, the majority of consumers don’t buy phones because they ‘look good’ (Not when they all look the same), they buy it because of what they find interesting with certain features or whatever ecosystem they belong too. A car is something that somebody generally has an attractiveness to due to styling, aesthetics, ect. Generally, all smart phones really look the same, and not to mention, I’d say about 99% of smart phones are in cases anyways, so subjective is styling when it’s covered to begin with.

Yeah I believe so. I probably won't be pressed to get it right at launch. I'll wait until some of my favorite tech youtubers review the phone. But nonetheless, I think this will be a good time to upgrade for me personally. I tend to upgrade my iPhone every other cycle regardless. I had a 5s, then a 6s and finally a X. I'm personally debating on whether I'll want the Max or the regular size. The Max will definitely feel more like an "upgrade" but the regular size one is so much better in terms of ease of use for me. Kind of a bummer the notch is remaining relatively the same size based on Kuo's reports but it doesn't bother me THAT much so it's not a big deal...for now.

Hi,

I was just wondering if there are other X owners out there that are planning on upgrading or not upgrading. I'm on the fence, so just curious...

I don't know what the iPhone XI is about yet so it's hard to answer that question. My default answer is 'No', because I'm happy with my Iphone X. I would need a very compelling reason to upgrade. Slightly thinner bezels, a third camera or smaller notch isn't nearly enough reason enough to switch.

I will be keeping my X.

I was just in japan for the last 2 weeks and that’s where I was putting my phone on some heavy duty tasking.

Apple maps-Brilliant. Super easy to navigate through on Japan’s busy streets and confusing transit system.

The phone was working at 100%. I felt like it knew that I needed it to be reliable. It kept pace with me the whole time, didn’t get hot and surprisingly the battery wasn’t draining. Even though I was snapping pics and videos and using The camera heavily.

This phone just proved it self to me. I will Be skipping this year seeing as the X’s camera is still amazing ( which by the looks of it is the significance of this year’s new phone )

My only worry is power. Apps are demanding more juice and this X’s 3GB of RAM will eventually not suffice.

God I love this phone. Apple set out with the intent to develop the best they could with the X and they succeeded. So much so that people would rather get the X than the XS.

not a chance. the phone is perfectly fine and has no need for an update. the only thing would be the camera because the lens glare on the X when taking a photo is god awful

my decision points, some points made better previously than I will detail:
  • Carrier integration with eSim. I have 2 phones (X and 6s). I'd like to carry only one
  • Size - The "Max" has my attention. I like the screen size of the 6s. I know pixel-wise the X beats its. X screen is more vibrant for sure.
  • Lightening connector: The advantages of usb-c are clear. Not ready to dump all my lightening cords just yet. It would be challenging to remember to carry a usb-c cord and a lightening cord(s) wherever life takes me.
  • 5G. The promise of 5G means nothing until carriers implement. That noted, if I upgrade this cycle, I'm probably going to want to upgrade again when 5G becomes more prevalent. Will that be two years from now?
  • Some new feature that hasn't been leaked or I haven't yet understood the value to me
  • Fast charging would be a positive. I know others have a greater need for this than me.
  • Magnetic mount ability without any additional attachments.
  • Improved face id. It's a drag having to pickup the phone from the desk to auto-authenticate. This is a case where touch-id works better.
Truth be told there's no need for me to upgrade. The 6S (especially with a new battery) really meets my needs. I do like to see how the Product evolves, so I twitch with every new release.

No thanks
•Camera is a bulky scratch magnet terrible design looks like crap.
•Notch still present is major disappointment, it’s a shame Apple couldn’t do away with that ugly.
•Updated chip wont provide noticeable performance improvements.
•No USB-C

I’d say that’s a very uninformed opinion, because the back of the iPhone camera actually is a sapphire lens, and I’ve never scratched the back of the lens, and it seems rare that many would do so either.

If you’re making a claim that the camera is a ‘scratch magnet’, then I would question what you’re doing with your iPhone to begin with.

It may be a disappointment for you, but for the majority, no one even talks about the notch, it’s not like it’s some form of discussion that others stray away from the iPhone because of the notch, it’s a non-issue and always will be.

Updated chip wont provide noticeable performance improvements.

Do you have a source for this? I mean, how would you know that? Otherwise you’re making another claim that isn’t validated whatsoever. As a matter fact, the A12 processor in the Xs/XR versus the A11 for the X/8, the A12 allowed for 60 frames per second for gaming and smart HDR for the camera, which was significant changes over the A11 processor. So you can’t make any claims unless you have a source for the A13 processor for the 2019 iPhone 11.

I’d say that lightning is still very much relevant and even will be for years to come when USB-C does make a transition to the iPhone. A lot of iPhone users are heavily invested into lightning with their accessories with the iPad, AirPods, etc.

the company I work for pays for the majority of my phone bill which includes the cost of the phone, so it would be unwise for me to not upgrade which till will my my daughter happy as she will get my X to replace her 6s.

If I were to pay %100 for the phone, I would keep it for 4 years and only replace battery at some point. the 6s my daughter is using is still perfectly fine phone that will further get pass down onto family. One new iPhone in a family makes 2-3 people happy - cant go wrong with that.

I'll most likely be there on opening day for the 2019 iPhone. My current phone is iPhone X that I copped on launch day in 2017 and between the battery being down to a max capacity of 85% and the LTE randomly going out for no reason, despite having (usually) full signal bars, the phone is showing it's age.

Since the 3GS back in 2009, I have been upgrading every 2 years and will likely continue doing so. That being said, I will wait for the official unveiling at the fall event before making a final decision.

I will probably upgrade my launch day X. The phone is fully paid off and there's nothing wrong with it, so it all depends on whether or not the improvements in this year's model are significant enough to warrant the expenditure. My battery is currently at 98% capacity (I had it replaced last November), so I'm good to go for another year, if I decide not to upgrade.

The only iPad that can be 'power-used' is only the Pro lines, especially for jobs that requires quick and super handy presentation of stuff. As an architect I found myself using my IPP more than my Mac aside from designing. But yes, the other iPad lines are just too gimmicky and redundant.

I just switched over to Verizon and grabbed an XS Max and got my mom an XS. This will be the first year I wont be upgrading but next year I will.

Would you say that the XS is an improvement over the X when it comes to speed? Like day to day use and FaceTime?

Hi,

I currently have an iPhone X with AppleCare and 256gb. I skipped the XS and was hoping for a re-design with the iPhone XI or 11. However from looking at the leaks the main re-design is the giant camera module on the back. I personally was hoping for a smaller notch and slightly slimmer bezels.

So with all that being said, I was just wondering if there are other X owners out there that are planning on upgrading or not upgrading. I'm on the fence, so just curious...
Now, there's a good question!
So, My X broke after about 8 months and Apple dutifully replaced it.
Ergo, my X is not that old really.
Usually I buy the S version and the X came out in an S year which is why I have it.
It was too early to upgrade to the XS so I held onto the X
However, my X is also so brilliant that I really don't need to change it just yet.
I reckon - in short - that I'll be hanging on to my X until the next S version; whenever that comes out.
...and only a true killer feature that I will use and use will divert me from this!

So, lets have another killer feature. I'm bored with better cameras now.
