I’ve scratched lens covers on previous devices that took up much less real estate as have many.I’d say that’s a very uninformed opinion, because the back of the iPhone camera actually is a sapphire lens, and I’ve never scratched the back of the lens, and it seems rare that many would do so either.
That being the case, bigger Lens easier to scratch.
After Samsung Galaxy 1 - 8 use , it was time for change. If you’re making a claim that the camera is a ‘scratch magnet’, then I would question what you’re doing with your iPhone to begin with.

Should I cheer Apple Hardware 1-2 years behind others?
Yes , if I’m Apple fanboy.
Little to nobody talks about it in Apple world. It may be a disappointment for you, but for the majority, no one even talks about the notch, it’s not like it’s some form of discussion that others stray away from the iPhone because of the notch, it’s a non-issue and always will be.
outside platform is different story.
If two version of 11 where released one of them being notch less ,
You know the outcome.
Many online reports state A12 to A13 won’t provide distinguishable performance improvements.Do you have a source for this? I mean, how would you know that? Otherwise you’re making another claim that isn’t validated whatsoever. As a matter fact, the A12 processor in the Xs/XR versus the A11 for the X/8, the A12 allowed for 60 frames per second for gaming and smart HDR for the camera, which was significant changes over the A11 processor. So you can’t make any claims unless you have a source for the A13 processor for the 2019 iPhone 11.
Keep your hope up.
I’d say you’re correct , I would prefer USB-C though.I’d say that lightning is still very much relevant and even will be for years to come when USB-C does make a transition to the iPhone. A lot of iPhone users are heavily invested into lightning with their accessories with the iPad, AirPods, etc.
