I’d say that’s a very uninformed opinion, because the back of the iPhone camera actually is a sapphire lens, and I’ve never scratched the back of the lens, and it seems rare that many would do so either.
I’ve scratched lens covers on previous devices that took up much less real estate as have many.
That being the case, bigger Lens easier to scratch.

If you’re making a claim that the camera is a ‘scratch magnet’, then I would question what you’re doing with your iPhone to begin with.
After Samsung Galaxy 1 - 8 use , it was time for change.
Dump evil Google & enjoy simple IOS enhanced security - privacy.
Should I cheer Apple Hardware 1-2 years behind others?
Yes , if I’m Apple fanboy.

It may be a disappointment for you, but for the majority, no one even talks about the notch, it’s not like it’s some form of discussion that others stray away from the iPhone because of the notch, it’s a non-issue and always will be.
Little to nobody talks about it in Apple world.
outside platform is different story.
If two version of 11 where released one of them being notch less ,
You know the outcome.

Do you have a source for this? I mean, how would you know that? Otherwise you’re making another claim that isn’t validated whatsoever. As a matter fact, the A12 processor in the Xs/XR versus the A11 for the X/8, the A12 allowed for 60 frames per second for gaming and smart HDR for the camera, which was significant changes over the A11 processor. So you can’t make any claims unless you have a source for the A13 processor for the 2019 iPhone 11.
Many online reports state A12 to A13 won’t provide distinguishable performance improvements.
Keep your hope up.

I’d say that lightning is still very much relevant and even will be for years to come when USB-C does make a transition to the iPhone. A lot of iPhone users are heavily invested into lightning with their accessories with the iPad, AirPods, etc.
I’d say you’re correct , I would prefer USB-C though.

So with all that being said, I was just wondering if there are other X owners out there that are planning on upgrading or not upgrading. I'm on the fence, so just curious...

I don't precisely qualify to answer the question as I'm a XS Max owner, but yes, I will absolutely be upgrading. I had the X, very very happily upgraded to the XS Max (I was sooo hoping for a 'Plus' sized version of the X I'd come to love), and will definitely upgrade to whatever is announced this fall.

I see no compelling reason to upgrade. So I'd probably only get the 11 if my X breaks. Since I got it 2nd hand from my Bro I don't have apple care. So pretty much damage would be my reason to get the 11. Maybe when Iphone 12 rolls around? Who knows.

I plan to get a battery upgrade on my X before I run out of Apple Care and keep another year.

I would like to be free of paying ~$100 for two phones for a year at least.

Camera is going to be something I would like but my X is fine.

My opinion, I don’t think your car example is relevant to an iPhone. And iPhone is a multi-tool, the majority of consumers don’t buy phones because they ‘look good’ (Not when they all look the same), they buy it because of what they find interesting with certain features or whatever ecosystem they belong too. A car is something that somebody generally has an attractiveness to due to styling, aesthetics, ect. Generally, all smart phones really look the same, and not to mention, I’d say about 99% of smart phones are in cases anyways, so subjective is styling when it’s covered to begin with.

I don’t speak for anyone else than me. But I don't agree with you at all. And you know, that’s the great thing. What you think is irrelevant, I think is relevant.

I absolutely love my max....however, I’m a sucker for launch day phones, so i’ll probably give in and upgrade. I love the excitement of pre-orders and getting the phone on launch day. Last year, it it weren’t for the max, I wouldn’t have upgraded so soon from the X. Then again, absolutely no complaints on my XS so I may just skip a year....I don’t know. We will see.

I have been thinking about it for a while and after creating a list of "what do I do with the phone" I decided to skip it.

Before, when I was younger, I thought that I'm doing "so much" with the phone and as I'm getting older the more I figure out what I'm actually doing with it.
  • With the X I thought I'm going to game a lot, similar like on the iPad when I had it. But no, I don't have a single game installed right now, I just don't have the time for it, and when I do, I have my Switch.
  • With the X I thought I'm going to start with AR, tried it out, didn't like it, stopped.
  • With the X I thought that I'm going to get a device which will change my lifestyle (somehow, I have no idea why), nothing changed.
  • With the X I thought that I'll enter photography and videography, I didn't. It was just one of those excuses to spend 1200 eur on a device which you don't need.

I need a speedy camera, the X has it.
I need a reliable screen and compact size, the X has it.
I need a reliable battery, the X still has it.
I need a phone for whatsapp and calls, the X is enough.

Will I spend another 1200 eur for a device which is newer but I use it the same way? Nah... I'll skip it.

I hate the triple lens design, but I'll upgrade from my iPhone X anyway. XS was the first release I skipped since the original iPhone. I'm pretty excited about what Apple will deliver this fall.

If that triple lens camera or camera is the only significant upgrade, I'll be keeping my current X for another year.

Not an X owner but couldn't agree more with what you said. iPhones have reached the point of diminishing returns for me. Nowadays I'd upgrade simply because I like the aesthetics of the device and nothing else. It's simply not worth it, especially if you're a casual user. Like now, the only reason I want to upgrade from the 7 Plus to the XS Max or one of the 2019 models is the hardware design. The user experience won't change for the things I do with my phone at all.

Not upgrading. I have a X and bought it knowing that I won't upgrade until they get rid of the notch and the camera bump. Love everything about the X still. Design, feel in the hand, performance, etc etc and the XS is basically the same phone. Love everything about it so no need for change but if they get rid of the notch and camera bump somehow, I will get it 100%. I mentioned many times in many posts that I am going to run my X to the ground until a notchless design comes out I am prepared to hold onto my X until it no longer works. I'm sure there will be a total redesign in 2022 or 2023. Yep, love the phone but hate the notch & bump.

I have an X and no plans to “upgrade”. When phone companies had us tied to 2 year contracts and new “must have” features on the iPhone, it made sense. I was always on the “S” cycle. But I never got a 7 nor 8 iPhone. Went from a 6S to X and it was a huge improvement. The upcoming XI phone with that ugly ass 3 lens camera, don’t think so. $1,100 for a device needs to have a service live longer than 2 years or treated as a “throw away” when we had the 2 year contracts.

I still use a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15 retina and its working great. (But need a new battery) I love the look of the new MacBook Pro 15 but with the keyboard issues, heat issues, I’ll wait and see. If the new upcoming MacOS has features I “must have” since I can’t upgrade after Mojave, again wait and see.

Very well said

Another thing to note is that us iPhone X users shelled out $1000+ for these phones when everyone was crucifying Apple for such a high price.

Apple put their heart and souls into this device to make sure we did not feel cheated out.

This is probably why the X is so brilliant and such a solid phone. I read online somewhere that they have been developing the X ever since the launch of the 6S. That’s along time in development.

The X as far as I can remember launched with no issues. Right out of the box it was ready to go.

Fantastic piece of engineering. So much so that Apple straight up discontinued it a year later knowing damn well that everyone would opt for the X over the Xs/max

Is that really supposed to be a surprise that Apple discontinued the 2017 iPhone X when they launched the XS? Of course they would. The reason they did that, is because they don’t want to detract the attention away for a cheaper phone that looks _exactly_ like the XS (And is almost identical in features), when they want the consumer to purchase the latest iPhone. I don’t fault Apple for discontinuing the 2017 X at all, when that would only affect the 2018 XS sales. It’s a tactical move that needed to be made, and it shortens the iPhone lineup as well.

Do you guys think there will be a speed improvement for the iPhone XI over the 10? The reason I ask is that I have a X and a 6S as a backup phone. The 6S is still very usable and reasonably fast for like 4 years old.

There are speed improvements every single year with the iPhone, but that’s probably not a tangible benefit if you upgrade an annual basis where you would you notice the speed differences, versus if you would upgrade from your 6S plus to say the Max, which would be three generations of processors apart.

Also, keep in mind, to notice any type of ‘speed increases’ when you upgrade your phone, it depends what you’re using your phone for. If it’s just for simple navigation with applications and browsing, you’re likely never going to take full of vantage of that speed anyways, unless it were specific to something like gaming, etc.

Not to mention, the main advantage to the A12 processor isn’t necessarily just the ‘speed’, it’s the 60 FPS for gaining an HDR camera.

Yes it’s the case every year with increased speed.
