I wish I’d returned my XS during the return window. I’ve lived with less than good connectivity and “get by” 70% of the time. Never see less than 2 bars signal on VZW but have frequent data loss issues. I’m 20 miles outside Atlanta. We have reasonably good tower coverage. This antenna design is just not good. Or maybe the modem. I’ll be hopeful next iPhone is better and sell this one or downgrade to an X. Or maybe bust outta the ecosystem and go android for awhile.
It may not be a large group affected by these connectivity issues. But when you spend this kind of money on a phone and it doesn’t work as well as your 3 year old one - it’s just super frustrating. I knew right at the get go my Max wasn’t right. I didn’t want to take a chance of getting stuck with it so I returned quickly. I tried again in 6 weeks figuring the bugs would be worked out but the 2nd Max was no better. The worst thing was getting the “huh?” both times at the Apple store. One Genius said she never heard of the issue. Then I reminded her that I spoke with her about it the first time around.

I really like the Apple products but instead of new emojis, I’d rather have a phone that works. Get the basics working first, Apple.

Even if you are into photography, the X is still such a great camera. Yes, maybe night shots are not as good, but man if you have a good eye, play around w some apps to edit photo, you can make them look really good.
Honestly the 1/3" sensor is a pretty big limitation (I have a similar 8+) - not just actual dark/ nighttime shots, but any low light can become pretty noisy pretty quickly. As much as they try to combat it with software, and OIS/longer exposures, it's a pretty resolute limitation of having such a small sensor. The 1/2.5" (main) sensor in the XS is arguably enough on it's own to encourage you to upgrade from a X if photography is an important hobby for you.

I'm getting fed up with new iPhones' crappy reception. My 8 (Qualcomm, allegedly superior) doesn't pull nearly as good service as my own work phone which is a crappy 5c. I stayed away from the XS for this exact reason, but apparently the 8 sucks too. If the XS is even worse, that's horrible.

However, I remember reading about a new antenna material on the upcoming 2019 iPhones. If this helps fix the reception, I'll look forward to buying a 5.8-inch iPhone 11 and keep it forever. Perfect size, more camera than I'll ever need, and good reception. These are the only things I really care about in a phone. I don't give a rip about a notch. If reception isn't fixed, it'll be time for me to give up on Apple. I love iOS, but can get what I need for much cheaper elsewhere.

staying with the X until it's no longer supported. Not feeding the beast anymore until prices drop and larger storage options become the base model. Why upgrade for slight camera upgrade that won't be noticeable. Your Instagram followers won't notice nor will anyone you show your photos too unless you're a real photographer

It’s starting to grow on me.

It looks like a tumor....
[doublepost=1561042121][/doublepost]I'm on the 8+. I was sure I'd be upgrading this year, but now, I don't think so. There's no meaningful change. Sure, you could make the argument that Face ID and OLED would be upgrades for me, but they're not going to really make the much of a difference. What WILL make a difference is not having a $50/mo payment. I've got the 256 and I'm using about 112 GB after almost 2 years. Looks like phones are turning into a 3-4 year upgrade cycle now, which, IMHO, is a great thing.

All that being said - I could watch the event in Sept and completely do a 180 and just NEED the X11 or whatever it's called.

Probably, but only because of a need for LTE Band 14 for FirstNet. I have an X now and from what I've read it's not supported. XS supports it, but I'm not buying one now when a new model is coming out in a few months.

If I had the X, I would either keep it or upgrade to the Xs. But that's certainly just my opinion.

I have the Xs and will probably keep it for another year - especially with the ugly square rear camera rumored for the next generation iPhone.

I don't know yet. I still like my X. My wife has an 8 Plus which I know she's ready to upgrade from. It has reception issues.

Nice. You hope that’s just one misguided employee but sometimes wonder if they are trained to deny knowledge of issues that just aren’t going to be fixed. Corporate America 101.

Every year I always say I’m not going to upgrade and I almost followed it, until March, when I upgraded my X to the XS Max. This year I’m definitely not upgrading until 2020, when hopefully Qualcomm is back in the iPhones.

Well, that’s not necessarily true, because not every year offers big camera upgrades (I’d say more like every 3 years, like the dual camera on the 7 Plus), but this year is slated to be a fairly large upgrade with the triple lens camera. I don’t think we can dismiss that so easily And it depends on what you’re referring to that ‘a camera upgrade won’t be noticeable’.

If that triple lens camera or camera is the only significant upgrade, I'll be keeping my current X for another year. I see no other compelling reasons. The X hardware is still great and so is the battery.

I do believe ‘reverse charging’ is also rumored to be another capability for the iPhone 11, which would probably be used for something like the Apple Watch or AirPods, but I also cast doubt if that will happen or not.

I’d be surprised if reverse charging doesn’t come to the iPhone this year, lot of companies are bring phones out with this feature, would be nice if Apple did - but a bonus if it supported Apple Watch charging too

You know if the rumors are true about the 5.8 inch screen getting smaller, that will be too small for me any longer. And if the plus size gets any bigger, it will be too big for me, I don’t want a phablet.

So after my X, it might be a Pixel 5.

Hope Google has everything ironed out by then. Apple really didn’t have a great phone until the 4S in my own opinion. Google should have the hardware up to be able to compete by then. I need a 5.8 to 6.2 screen.

There are 2 models. One of them has the Intel chip. The Verizon or unlocked model purchased directly from Apple has the Qualcomm chip.

The X had both Intel and Qualcomm models. The Xs/Xr has Intel.

Apple is ending the updates for your phone after iOS 13 is released.

Reports from earlier this summer is that the iPhone 6 and 5s won't be supported by IOS 13.

I thought the 2019 phones would have the Qualcomm modem - did I miss the announcement that they wonn't - that it will still be the intel radio???

In that case, I will not upgrade.I have the Qualcomm modem in my current X (I bought it Sim free to be sure of getting it) and connections are great - It may be the first time I've kept a phone for 3 years.

By the time Apple and Qualcomm made peace, it was too late for the Qualcomm modem to be included in Apple 2019 iPhone. So yeah, 2019 is another Intel "only" year for Apple phones.

Yet another reason iPhone 2019 = DOA

They need to figure out how to increase battery life before supporting reverse charging on new iPhones.

I’d say that depends. Because if you’re looking at lithium ion battery technology now as it is, it’s mature enough where other manufacturers are producing similar results. If Apple did offer reverse charging, I expect it also to be applicable only to the Max for obvious reasons, likely as an incentive to want to purchase the most expensive phone with the _largest_ battery and it’s the newest feature.

Isn’t that what the rumours are? That they’ll increase the battery capacity and also enable reverse charging at the same time.

Been on intel chips in Europe since the iPhone 7 so what’s one more year lol
