I guess it’ll be a similar plus size differentiator (slash justification to the higher price tag?) to OIS and the dual lenses with the 6/s and 7/8.

True innovation would be to have 1 lense, flushed, not protruded, which can do what 3 lenses can do... but those days seem gone.

Yeah, damn Apple for not being able to subvert physics at a cheap price.

Apple is doing things I don't agree with, but the camera isn't one of them. A SLR can take superior pictures for multiple reasons, one being the knowledge of the person behind the camera and some of the others being things like add on flashes, remote flashes, and interchangeable lenses. That's how SLR's get good depth of view and low light response. But guess what? Those SLR's aren't doing it with a single lens either, that what an interchangeable lens is. Another lens. You need to own the correct types of lenses with the right apertures and ability to change the focal length to get the very best results for a given situation. Do you know how focal zooms work? You adjust the lens to make it protrude farther from the camera body. You can't get an optical zoom without having physical distance between lens and focal point. You can digitally zoom pictures, but it is still a give and take. You lose resolution and/or brightness.

If you know some other ways of doing these things at a consumer friendly economic scale then why don't you do it and become a billionaire?

Edit: Replaces 'An' with 'A'.

Clearly not. It does show he doesn’t understand who Apple’s audience for portrait mode is.

I never claimed my photo had anything to do with phone vs dslr.
"Portrait mode's audience" isn't an excuse for a bad product.

And yes, you advocate phone over dSLR. Quite clearly.

Nope. Not at all. I'm fine with all cameras - the street photo below is from my Canon 5DM2. After all, the strength of a photo comes from the photographer, and not gear.

Portrait mode is not a bad product. It's fine for its intended audience.

Are you a photographer? Would love to see your work if you have a link. Maybe some portraits?

I'll keep you posted for sure. Here comes the revolution.

I didn't think I needed to clarify, but I suppose I do for you. When I said Google I was referring to the Pixel lineup of devices and their respective cameras. Go find me one review where the iPhone X or 8 wins over the Pixel 2.

It would seem you did not read the article because although it does include the Note (in the title which is probably all you looked at) it also lists the Pixel 2. Here is another comparison of the two ( https://www.cnet.com/news/iphone-x-vs-pixel-2-which-camera-is-better/ ). Once again, the two cameras are close and although Pixel may win neither could be considered "trash", "destroyed", etc.

Yes, you did.
And yes, I am a photographer.

And saying that is all about the photographer and not the gear, when you've presented post-processing more that anything else, is not credible.

An yet you continue to fail to back that up.

"And yes, I am a photographer."

Great. Let's see some photos. Just post a link to your work.

"And saying that is all about the photographer and not the gear, when you've presented post-processing more that anything else, is not credible."

If you were really a photographer you would understand the role post-processing plays in most photos. And knowing post-procecessing decisions and edit are made by the photographer, not gear.

Let's see some of your work.

What do I fail to back up? That you advocate iPhone over dSLR?
These are quotes from you in this very thread:
"For many people, including serious photographers, it's OK having a DSLR and a phone camera. I rarely use my dSLRs when I'm out and about. The iPhone is perfect for that and for more serious endeavors as well."
This is saying dSLRs is a backup, at best.

And:
"iPhone IS a real camera." in a quote to someone differentiating iPhone vs dSLR (the "real" camera).

And I do very much understand post-processing. But in a debate about iPhone vs dSLR, showing photos with heavy post-processing to promote iPhone over dSLR, isn't doing anyone any good.

DSLRs are dead since few years.
Its an old technology.
The future is with mirrorless system cameras.
Look at those Sony a9, Olympus E-M1 II, etc.

At the moment, you cannot do everything on iPhone but its already good enough for lot of things.
Especially if you think about the fact that 95% of people look at the photos only on their phones and tablets.
But give it few more years and everything will change.
The whole definition of photography is changing dramatically.
Stock photos, overpopulation and a powerful camera in the pocket of every single person.
Who will even have time to watch the pictures on a big screen in the near future?
Will anybody care if its made with a phone or cam when the sensor become the same size and the processor will get the same power in all devices?

Made with my iPhone SE.
Not bad, huh?
Excited to see what is possible with a triple lens cam of the next iPhone.

You're right. When sensors, et al, is equal on a camera and a phone, it doesn't matter.
But right now, phones are no match for dSLRs.
The "good enough" generation are gonna be here for a long time, though.

And regarding your image there, it's edited so much it really defies your point.
