Plan A Buy a new iPhone 8+ after Oct 15 so it could be returned two weeks later. Attempt the X preorder at 3:00 am by Apple app on I Pad with Apple Pay. Hoping to get one close to launch day. Utilizing favorites for transaction.
Plan B Knowing results of pre order decide to keep the 8+ or return it and keep current iPhone 6 and revisit in 2018 sometime.

I don't really have a plan B. I'll just preorder on the 27th and wait as long as it takes to come. I will try in the mean time to try and get it from an Apple store if I'm lucky enough and then cancel the online order. I'll keep using my 7 Plus until I get my hands on the X.

pre orders on the 27th could be a true ''Games of Phones'' chaos.

Imagine you get your shipping time from Apple shortly after pre ordering your iPhone X, with an estimate somewhere near January/February 2018, are you gonna sit out the waiting or do you have a Plan B ready?

Myself, I can't imagine I am gonna wait till January/February next year and probally stick with my iPhone 7 or look at alternatives like the LG V30 😉
Pixel 2xl or s9 plus (which is rumored to happen in January/February) of it doesn't come soon.

I am pre-ordering on the 27th. Whenever it comes, it comes. I do not expect to wait more than 3-4 weeks even if I order a couple of hours after the pre-order begins. If they tell me something crazy like Jan-Feb I will just keep the order, as Apple tends to under-promise and over-deliver in my past experiences.

Same here, I'll pre-order, and when I get it, I get it - and in the interim, I'll continue to use my 6S+.

It certainly wouldn't prompt me to change platforms (of my primary, personal device).

Sit and wait. It’s only a phone.

I’ll preorder at midnight just because it’s a fun thing to do - to see how fast it can do it. I don’t mind waiting however long it takes - I don’t need it, my 6+ is working fine, and I’ll expect it to show up whenever.

I've had enough of waiting and waiting, I skipped the 6 and 7 as they didn't excite me at all, I'm still on the iphone 5s and cant anymore. Feel like pulling the trigger on the 8+ right now but will wait some more seeing as though I've waited this f***** long!

I know & feel your pain! I too skipped 6, 7 & 8 and plan to upgrade from 5S to X. Stay calm though & don't pull that 8+ trigger just yet, as Karma says that we will both be top of the X stock allocation list, in recognition of our patience! 🙂

Im going to walk into Best Buy the Saturday after launch and pick one up just like I have done for the 5, 6 and 7 lol.

Just curious about the 6 since out of what you mentioned, the 6 was the biggest upgrade. I had to wait 3 weeks to get mine which felt like an eternity. I called everywhere also, and they had none in stock.

So my question is, how did you luck out?

So after a lot of replies, thank you for that, the iPhone 8 Plus sounds as the biggest Plan B, so far... 😉

If plan A fails I’d just make a script like I did last year for jet black similar to other stock checking sites and try to get an order in store in the days after release.

If it doesn’t happen by thanksgiving for me I’d say forget it.

Well if u decide ur gonna hang onto your 7 then you might as well pre-order the X and wait it out...what’s the difference?

I could do that, but no.
I truly think that the ones who pre order early (within 5 minutes) on the 27th will get their iPhones the first or 2nd week of November.
But if for some reason (little chance I guess if my order gets in within 5 minutes) I get a shipping time after Christmas, then I'll probally stick with my iPhone 7 and wait till next year for the 2nd version of the iPhone X (or whatever name it gets)

Haha you’re probably right.

Anything over 4 weeks and I am keeping my 6s Plus until next September.

This is probably a good measurement to see when you actually receive it. And depending when you actually upgrade, you have to ask yourself is it worth purchasing this new iPhone if you plan on upgrading again in 2018, especially given how iPhones devalue rather quickly. For those who don't upgrade anyway, perhaps the wait is worth it depending on what they consider "Worth".

exactly this!
If you get a 256Gb iPhone X (assuming you pay outright) for €1359/$1150 you'll mostlikely loose about €450/$400 when trying to resell it.
I can't imagine someone wants to buy a 2nd hand iPhone X for more then $775-800/€850-900 next year.

And if you get the iPhone X, lets say, around January/February next year and allready know that you want the 2018 iPhone , then it will be a very, very expensive upgrade in 2018
