First iPhone I don't want. I really want a tactile Home button, not another gesture. Reviews I read confirm my view that the tactile home button is missed by users of the phone.

Reviews say the face recognition is fine, when it works. Doesn't work all the time. My iPhone 7's tactile home button always unlocks with my thumb print.

Aspect ratio of the new screen isn't utilized by many apps, even some of Apple's apps, so that new screen often has black bars a the top and bottom.

Optical stabilization on the camera is the only feature I really want.

Apparently, it gets hot.

The glass on the back of my iPhone 4 broke years ago. Glass on the back isn't a smart design feature.

Meh. I'm really looking forward to a new modular Mac Pro, next year.

Not to forget that beautiful Notch designed by Apple!

$1000 for something you hold every day, use every day, is cheap. Hell my $250 formal shoe is more expensive than the iPhone X because it stays on the shoe rack most of the time.

I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if this is correct to some extent. Most of the families I know who purchase these devices are not so financially irresponsible as to pretend $1,200 spread out over 12/24 months is somehow meaningless compared to $1,200 up front. And if a family member wanted to ‘upgrade’ from a more frugal iOption (e.g. previous model or a more base model iPhone 8) it wouldn’t be unusual for the trade off to be Christmas.

Heck, I’m a married adult who buys an iPhone almost every year simply because I enjoy the devices. I’ll expect my present under the tree this year to be humble in retrospect of buying a 256 GB iPhone X. (And I also view $1,200 on an installment plan as equivalent to $1,200 up front—which is actually a reason why I just pay the amount up front). And for me this expense is probably going to deduct from revenue that would have gone to the likes of Makita or Olympus.

This post reeks of FAKE NEWS.

First off they only sold out because of production issues, not demand. Sure they could have sold more, but how many?

#2 The reviews on Face ID I've read so far are mixed, most saying it works fairly well, but admitting it's hard getting used to if not clunky not having a home button.

So its unclear what word of mouth is going to be. This site is too overly biased to make and credible judgments.

Yes you are spot on! It’s sold out because of production issue. Hipster wants every year released iPhone. Where is Apple design teaM sitting? Where is world class design? That notch on iPhone X is downhill for world class design company.

“customers will be drawn to all of the new features in the iPhone X”

Like what? Animoji and a taller screen with a notch and less than 50% of apps to support it for the first year? What exactly does this phone do to warrant the 1k?

To be honest, the $1000 price tag caused me to take a step back and examine how much I was spending on technology.

I’m not buying a new phone this year for the first time since the iPhone 3GS.

Yeah it’s done the same for me as well. I could switch carriers since I’m on a horrible carrier with paygo that doesn’t fully support iOS(Freedom yeah some freedom).

IPhone X
Watch S3
AppleTV4-4K and the TV to render such resolutions.

Good for Apple’s bottom line now, but what about next year when everyone’s satisfied with their X and unwilling to spend any more for at least two years, if not more due to the extra cost this go round?

I have a sinking feeling this upgrade cycle will do very well for Apple. Well see those that prefer the 4” screen finally get a relevant update in March 2018. iPads a slight bump in may 2018.

More importantly this could be a delayed upgrade cycle for iPhone in 2018. I don’t see a two tiered model release in 2018, but I also think a Christmas 2018 or March break 2019 release will get a new iPhone introduced. Just so Apple can get the most revenues as possible with the X delayed launch.

Makes sense. I know several people opting for the 256GB iPhone X. With AppleCare and taxes that’s almost $2,000 in Canada. And several mentioned they’re postponing other purchases (like laptops or 4K TVs) until later so they can get their iPhone now.

Yeah know?! The cost is insane!

Don’t be surprised for Bank stocks, helped also by their partnerships with Credit Card companies getting their piece of the Apple pie upgrade this holiday season (MasterCard, Amex, Discover).

Apple’s stock dived today .... watch for it to rise after earnings or closer to December 8th to 20th.

I'm a pretty frugal person when it comes to personal purchases. I buy off-brand items for MANY things, especially toiletries and household goods. I shop at Kohl's for ALL my clothing and wear them until theyre literally falling apart.

Doing some soul searching before going on Verizon.com on Friday morning, I realized i buy literally nothing for myself.

My phone is something i use more than anything, even my vehicle. It's my source of communication, entertainment, news, and education. It's the only thing I can justify spending $800-$1k yearly to upgrade since it's ALWAYS on my person and being used frequently.

The only item besides my iPhone that I use as much is my bed...which I use 6 hours a day.

Hence is why the two items i have no guilt in upgrading and splurging on are my bed and phone.

Go to www.apple.com please and click the iPhone X link and look for features.

It's technology is 2 years ahead of anything Android is doing right now.

Can you list some specific features please? Things this phone can do that no other phone can.

Not to forget that beautiful Notch designed by Apple!

1. The notch is there for good engineering reasons.

2. The two sides of the notch offer real estate for information that would otherwise be taken by a dark band. Reference: iPhone 8

3. Today most phones are good thanks to Apple, and none of the have a notch. People against the notch do have good opinions.

4. Other phones will inevitable converge on this design in the future, (a) because it is a good engineering compromise, and (b) most follow Apple design any way

5. When given all other options, the iPhone X is still the best phone in the market.

6. Go to (1)

7. Should not have arrived to this line. Please print error in a reply.

The end of one era heralds the dawn of another.

It’s an iPhone 8+ in an iPhone 8 form factor, with an OLED display, plus I already see Face ID removing some of the friction of interacting with aspects of iOS, such as notifications.

Touch ID is old tech. It’s the best it has ever been, and it’s the best it will ever be. There’s little room left for optimisation. The technology has run its course, and perhaps it’s time to be replaced by something better and with more potential.

That is Face ID, which not only lets you unlock your phone, but can serve as a springboard for way more functionality down the road. There is so much promise in a tiny kinect in a phone, and I look forward to what Apple does with it in the future (eg: maybe even controlling your phone with glances and gestures?).

So really, you are buying a piece of the future and future-proofing your phone for the next couple of years as well. You are buying into a whole new iPhone experience.

Until there's no planet left. Then it consumes itself..

You’re right.

When the milenials finally wake up from whatever stupor they’re currently in (reality tv), they will find the planet in a big all irreplaceable mess.

Then they’ll look back and ask themselves “what was I thinking back in 2016? Ah, I remember. I chose reality TV government versus ALL other options on my table. What a waste of a planet.”

But hey, let’s buy an iPhone X and all will be well.

Methinks you don’t know what innovation means. That or you’re unfamiliar with the various bits of technology in an iPhone.

A bezeless phone with faceid, OLED screen and Qi charging is not innovation it is just catching up with what other manufactures have had for a year or more.

Was the iPhone 5s merely catching up to the competition with Touch ID despite it being the best fingerprint sensor in the market bar none?

Are you actually equating a miniaturised Kinect in a phone with an eye scanner which can be fooled by a photo?

I am saying the iPhone X is pretty lame.

You can say Apple finally "caught up" to everyone else. That's fair.

Or... you can say that everyone else hasn't come up with the next thing beyond bezel-less displays... or the next thing beyond OLED... or the next thing beyond Qi wireless charging.

In other words... everyone else LET Apple catch up to them.

Here's the bad news for everyone else: they can no longer use the "we have these features and the iPhone doesn't" argument anymore.

So you can criticize Apple for being "late" with a lot of these features. But Apple will benefit from adding these features... while everyone else just lost their advantage.

Possibly, though supercycle would surely imply a significantly reduced pool of potential upgrades for next year? And considering the iPhone is still 60%+ of apple’s business a slow year would be pretty dire, even if they do clean up this year...

2 years ago there was 1 billion of active used iOS devices in the world. Right now they are even more. It's not like they are all going to buy the iPhone X. Probably not even 25% of them. Super cycle just means more than usual, not all of them.

This is just another theory or maybe the spending will go up to other things because more people decided not to get iPhone 8 and iPhone X. We’ll find out but I like my theory better it’s better for the US economy.:D

Don't see a lot of millennials in my government (UK) - many in yours ?

Same here, I earn good money but $1000 for a phone is laughable. If I really had to I could happily still use the 3GS / 4S. Other than the better camera and touchID/applePay I really dislike many of the new features and especially all the bloatware that hogs the OS.

I had to choose between the iPhone X and a new 4K tv. As I'm still happy with my iPhone 7 I bought the television which I'm loving.
