There are probably going to be a lot of customers who passed on the iPhone 8 and are disappointed they have to wait until after the new year to get their hands on an iPhone X

Starting to look like I'll be one..

If the waiting time is up to 4 weeks I will be happy to wait for the X however if it's going to be 8 weeks or more I may consider getting a iphone 8 Plus instead and get the new X in 2018.

I still have my 8+ here on my desk, unopened... Still very tempted but trying to hold out until End of October.
Also, I am in Florida end of November, so even if i'd go for an 8+ i might buy one while on holiday if the £ keeps rising... (while also buying a 4k ATV and new PowerBeats3 :))

So less than 10,000 units a day, 6 weeks until release. I make that less than 420,000 units to satisfy an estimated 40-50 Million pre-orders. That’s going to take a long time to catch up.

The people saying Apple is deliberately constraining supply to create a shortage are just plain crazy. The pent up demand for the X clearly shows people are willing to pay the high prices. And we know people are holding off buying the 8 so they can buy the X. So, every iPhone X Apple fails to make is just money they are leaving on the table. No sane company would deliberately underproduce a product when this high amount of demand has clearly been demonstrated.

It seems pretty obvious that Apple is having a hard time manufacturing one or more of the components for the X and has to slow down overall production so it doesn’t end up with a bunch of other components sitting in a warehouse. No way are they deliberately not making as much money as they otherwise would be.

Oh god. Looks like I'll be ordering mine at 3:01:01

Otherwise it'd be 2018 before you can get your phone.
I heard you need to unlock your Mac with Apple Watch Edition Series 0 to get to the iPhone X preorder page.

Like I already said, I don’t think Apple had any intentions of releasing the X this year. Other manufacturers and rumors forced Apple to rush this and its showing. They knew they couldn’t get away with another “s” release.

Would the company go under if they took a year off making phones to perfect the next launch? I blame the shareholders for the recent production debacle.

If everything is true this will indeed have an impact on Apple financials: they are basically losing at least a full quarter's sales of the product that accounts for the overwhelming majority of their revenues, we're talking tens of billions here.

Plus, if really this thing will be broadly available after Winter, you will start losing as well sales from people who would have upgraded but that will now prefer to wait for the XS or whatever it will be called.

All this naturally assuming that the X lives up to its promises, FaceID working, etc. etc.

Well... That does make sense.

Considering that Samsung can only supply OLED displays at a rate meeting only 40% of Apple's requirements, why would Apple want to accumulate (and pay for) loads of unused components inventory from its other vendors. That would be really dumb.

Much better to pace inventory needs from other suppliers based on expected major shortages of the OLED display.

Guess I wont be getting an X until 2q 2018. At that point, might as well wait for the X2

If they can’t fill orders until after the new year, I wonder if the 2018 X update will release in the fall. Hard to believe it would.

Realistically speaking, Apple has a ballpark number of potential upgraders. They have all the data on how often people move up on the two-year cycle + extras.

They can just take the people buying the 8 and subtract them from that number.

Apple's base is so huge that they really can just do a straight-line extrapolation.

Even though there was no glitch in the presentation...? With dozens of staffers using the phone and looking at it, it operated like if people tried your Touch ID. After failed attempts, use passcode.

No glitch.

As long time iPhone user, I believed Apple's explanation but there are many others who are still waiting for real tests how secure and well it works.
