Apple will have the display calibrated without Samsung's oversaturation.

And Samsung has several display modes...if you dont like the saturation, you can change it. And if you want a cooler or warmer screen, you can change it. If you want a different screen resolution, you can change it. Its nice to have customization over your display. Something you dont get. Read that displaymate review of the flagship galaxy phones if you don't understand that.

The display is not the best one Apple could’ve offered. That’s the bottom line. Apple should’ve tried to make improvements to the OLED but they didn’t it seems. This way it wouldn’t be just another OLED display. Apple customers don’t want cheap parts everyone else uses. They want the premium version of what the Note and other flagship phones use.

Have any of you personally laid eyes on the iPhone X? If you haven't, then how can you judge its quality? From a marketing image or YouTube video displayed on your computer's LCD monitor? Or the limited specs that have come out about the display?

I think this is all a little silly.

What on earth are you basing this on?

He saying that the PPI and brightness (nits) is less than Samsung‘s brightness and PPI. And that is a fact and why apples iPhone X screen will be somewhat inferior to Samsung screen.

Just look at the iPhone 8 and 8+. 8 has the 750p screen and the iPhone 8+ has the 1080 P screen. I can almost bet that next year the iPhone Xs, whatever it’s called will have a better screen then the smaller iPhone X.

not sure what happened to the Sharp investment, but Apple doesn't make OLED's or any other screen. so there is no way they can improve other than optimize their software

It may be true that it will be inferior on those two specs, if taken by themselves. But what if the phone as a whole is better due to the choices Apple did make? Better battery life, better color reproduction, better GPU performance, etc.?

A broader look would make more sense, once we have the phone in-hand.

What kind of display did you watch the video on?

It doesn't really matter.

Look at this picture for example:

That doesn't tell us zip. The background images on the two phones aren't even the same. The one on the left is a much more vibrant background image.

Plus the photo is washed out.

But go ahead and jump to conclusions if you insist. I guarantee you that when you see an X in person next to a Plus, you will see a very different result.

I hope so because I'm very exited about it. All I'm saying is I expected it to have the rich colors other oled phones have as so far all images of the X I've seen seem to have less vivid colors.

Screen? I just need a screen to look and touch....nothing more. I’m not planning to do anything “extra mile” with the screen....

I guess we will have to see after the iPhone X gets in the hands of many more people and more test are run.

There is no way images can convey the benefits of OLED, unless you are viewing those on an OLED device, and even then camera limitations come into play.

Though don’t expect exaggerated vibrancy. Apple will emphasize color accuracy over “pop”. But do expect great contrast and perfect blacks.

No one should have to dig into menus and tinker with settings to have an accurate screen. It should just be default.

Who cares about being able to change the resolution as well. Such a pointless “feature”. It’s comical Samsung promotes their display as 1440p QHD but yet they default the resolution to 1080p out the box.

Back when I had Note 3, the only thing I really enjoyed about the display was that I was able to calibrate it with my meter and software I use for computer monitors and television. It was a huge improvement over the overly saturated, overly vivid default mode.

I prefer being able to dig into menus. That's what techies do so we can customize things to our liking. If you don't like it oh well. At least I have that option and prefer it.

IPhone X has a lower than 500 ppi and may not be using Samsungs best display technology based on the perceived brightness and resolution from the looks of it but no one can doubt that the iphone display isnt beautiful because even I admit its a nice display just not the greatest.

Uh, did you get yours already? If not, I’d say the jury’s out.

You check Apple's spec sheet...I only pointed out the facts that Apple gave us on its website....a subpar ppi a subpar resolution and a subpar brightness compared to the best out there.

Even MKBHD said it didn't get as bright and vivid as he would have preferred compared to the galaxies.

My mistake. I was doubting the X. Hate that price tag. Even more so if the display is inferior. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The display is not inferior. The person you have been posting back and forth with is a known Android troll. That's their entire purpose for being on this forum.
