I guess those children in China didn't work 24x7 for nothing?

It was in the news here a few days ago - also reported by Chinese state media.
Local college kids "volunteer" to work (day and night) in foxconn factories to assemble iPhone X.

So this is what’s happens with these kids. They do take a job working in the factory. Overtime payments are a western concept Apple tries to impose on its suppliers so it feels good about making stuff in China. The “college” kids know the deal and they have to work hard, but they want to work, the work ethic is strong in China. But they live in a place with a compensation culture and demanding it is a scam people always try. So why not go public with an unpaid overtime compensation scam? They’ll get paid so the story goes away and they have nothing to lose. I live in China.

It just shows the rubbish reports the X will be hard to buy because Apple had trouble manufacturing was wrong again.
My X is great and best iPhone I’ve ever owned. The price is ok and I like exclusiveallty in products. Apple have iPhones for all levels but I wished it didn’t as Apple is hurting the second hand resale prices.

Everybody gonna have their X for the holidays

I used istocknow website and picked it up same day. Took 3 days to find suitable stock.

I honestly expected the phone to suck and return it but faceid works 99% of the time, the build is premium and the screen looks great. I went to Android for 4 years in which I tried OnePlus, Samsung S6-8+, the iPhone has finally caught up.

Now I await the next few years which we will see the entry to this premium hardware drop in price to become more affordable for more people.

Well said. I am going to wait for free iPhone from carriers and do a switch.

You are aware that any device through a carrier is never "free", right?

It really doesn't matter anymore, just buy any GSM phone, remove the sim before you power on and place your international sim in and your good to go. I work in Asia and every one I brought back for friends fired right up no issues at all. All the phones are sold carrier specific for now, but they are fully unlocked.

You do have different versions ... I'd rather not take chances. Yes, they're unlocked (and if not, you can just have them unlocked, at least in the US), but the internal hardware is different between the different models. My European GSM model wouldn't work on Verizon, for example...

I doubt the "they want to work" and the "work ethic is strong" statement.
From a report - a few colleges made a deal with foxconn and bascially made the "internship" mandatory - go work @ foxconn or never graduate.

Students from Zhengzhou Urban Rail Transit School told the Financial Times that they were part of a group of 3,000 teenagers sent into a Foxconn facility to meet demand for the iPhone X.

“We are being forced by our school to work here,” one young woman told the newspaper, adding that she assembles up to 1,200 cameras during days that can last 11 hours.

“The work has nothing to do with our studies,” she added.

Great! How much longer for the sim-free version? And are we back to 5 weeks once it's being offered?
Probably soon, and no usually once the SIM-free is available that means supply has mostly caught up and the carriers have met their launch commitments.

Sim free has been offered in Canada since launch.

Strange the US doesn’t. Still tied to carriers?
Yes, sort of. You can reserve for in-store pick up now, where you can ask for a device-only sale without providing account information. The carrier still gets credit toward its sales commitment.

No change in the status of my order placed last Thursday, still slated for December 7-14 delivery.
[doublepost=1511391856][/doublepost]
I ordered a silver 256 GB and a gray 256 GB iPhone X on 05 Nov. Both still have deliveries of 06-13 Dec. I keep reading about production times decreasing (now down to 1-2 weeks) and thought mine would get pushed up... not so.

Likewise.

It's clear the demand is not at all high as they were expecting. People don't want to spend 1400€ for a phone (understandably). I think it's the first time ever a flagship iPhone is widely available so soon after launch…
The more likely explanation is that they delayed the release until they were comfortable that they could match supply more quickly. Remember they had lots of phones in stores on launch day. This is holiday shopping season so they want the phones to arrive before Christmas.

This happens every year. Apple always overestimates shipping times and then they quickly drop.

I think this is the first time, ever you could buy an new iPhone during Christmas. Usually its sold out until February or March - even the 7. Does this mean no one is buying? This reminds me, I need to return mine on Sat.

Technically it’s an overseas possession and not insular territory. It’s always been treated as a “separate” market from the US mainland.

Nah, the same happened with the 5s, the 6, the 6s, and 7. Remember this year there were 3 new phones released, not just 2.

Yeah I just ordered mine 5 days ago and it's getting here Friday ... so 1 week for me.

Shipping estimates for the iPhone X have improved to 1 to 2 weeks in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, suggesting Apple's efforts to ramp up production have successfully resulted in greater supply.

The 1 to 2 week shipping estimates are an improvement over the previous 2 to 3 week shipping estimates that have been available since November 15. iPhone X models ordered today in the United States and Canada will now arrive by early December, well ahead of the holidays.

For Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East, iPhone X shipping estimates are still at 2 to 3 weeks, but those estimates should also improve over the course of the next few days.

In addition to improving shipping estimates for devices purchased now from the online Apple Store, Apple has also been sending out iPhone X pre-orders more quickly than expected. Many MacRumors readers who had late November and December shipping estimates after ordering have already received their devices or are expecting them soon.

Apple retail stores are also receiving regular shipments and customers who check stock on Apple.com early in the morning and use stock-tracking tools like iStockNow have been able to make purchases with no wait time.

Back in early November, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple was working to ramp up iPhone X production week by week, with the aim of getting the new smartphone out to customers "as soon as possible."

Ahead of the iPhone X launch, rumors suggested the device would be heavily constrained and in short supply until well into 2018, but given the improvements we're already seeing, supply/demand balance will likely be reached earlier than originally expected.

Magnificent news!! All people wanting the best iPhone in the iPhone history will finally be able to get it soon and not become scalpers’ victims.
Kudos to Apple

It means all the rumors of their production were nonsense.

No... It's that the vendor ramp-up issues for critical components previously written about were addressed, and iPhone X demand can now be met in a reasonable time.

This is going to be an off-the-rails over-the-top successful quarter for Apple! I suspect quarterly results will even surpass Cook's bullish $84 billion to $87 billion revenue guidance provided last quarter.

Out of curiosity (I'm pretty out of touch on these issues).. whats the difference or benefit in getting the Sim free version? I just got my iPhone X last week, and my concern was that i was with Sprint, but wanted to switch. Apple advised me to reserve the Sprint phone, anyway. They said it comes unlocked and is universal.. they just cautioned me to not turn it on with the Sprint SIM inside. And sure enough, i went to each local cell company (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon...) and they all said that i could activate the phone on their service no problem.
So is there some benefit i don't know about to buying one that doesn't come with that Sim card in there?

I bought my (black) iPhone 4 before/during Christmas ... At the same time the white 4 was delayed well into the next year.

I'd be careful with "first time ever" statements.

Apple does not make enough phones = Apple sucks at supply chain, Tim Cook sucks, blah blah.
Apple does make enough phones = Its a flop
It is not a flop. iPhone X is a high price premium phone which not everyone has purchasing power to get it. Low percentage capable buyers does not translate flop phone.

The Sprint and Verizon phones have both chips (GSM and CDMA), the AT&T and Telekom phones only have GSM. The majority of the world uses GSM, but some countries only use CDMA. If you travel a lot and want to use local sims while abroad, you better go with a version that allows both.

At least in the US, all phones can/must be unlocked upon your request. However, up until last week (so I learnt in this thread) in order to order one of the phones, you already had to had a contract with on of the carriers. (not for in-store pickup, but, well, stock was and is low...) But, some people are on prepaid and not on contracts.

Mine has been listed as "in transit" from China since the 16th. At this point I'm losing hope of getting it in less than 1-2 weeks. Might as well place a new order and return whichever one shows up later.

It is also the first time in Apple history, they have a high price phone. Low percentage buyer with purchasing power to get it makes the phone available sooner.
