It’s complicated, but Verizon’s discounts on phones are actually credited monthly over the life of a two-year payment plan. However, if you pay off the balance early or otherwise change the payment plan, you forfeit the remaining monthly credits. In my case, that’s $27/month over the course of the next year. This is how Verizon solves their retention problem in a world without two-year contracts. The only way around that is to leave the existing payment plan in place, and SIM-swap to an actual unlocked phone. Hence, the waiting game.

?

No home button? Why? That is a solution looking for a problem.
Face ID... that’s weird, and another solution looking for a problem.
Have you used one yet? Neither of these are a problem. After a few days it becomes a lot more intuitive than before. Now I pick up my iPad or an old iPhone with a home button and Touch ID and stare at it in disbelief that we used this for so many years.

With an increasingly decrepit iPhone 5, I've been in the market for a new phone for a while and I waited for this release. I'm not actually surprised that there's relatively easy availability of this phone (and also almost immediate availability of the 8) so soon after their launch here. Prior to the annoucement I was set on buying whatever came out until I saw the pricing and the capacity options of the 8 and the X. (No 128 in either model - hmmm?) The pricing / capacity options has really has put me off. Perhaps I'm not the only one then?

Very impressive or worrying. Wonder if its supply improving, demand declining, or both? Guess we'll find out with quarter results

Why is that worrying?
You get to purchase the phone either way.

Guess the haters who claimed that nobody would pay $1000 for an iPhone were right after all.

They are actually falling over themselves to pay $1150 and more for one.

Can’t wait for the iPhone X+ to launch next year with an even higher price tag and watch this entire cycle of disbelief / acceptance play out all over again.

Just curious how much more do you think the price will rise? Will we be at the $2000 iPhone in 2021?

I'm really surprised, like many others, that the shipment estimates improved so strongly. I'm curious if demand is meeting Apple's planning or customers tend to reject the offering by either switching to iPhone 8 or postponing to 2018. My bet is iPhone X sales will be strong, but maybe not completely matching iPhone 7 sales two years ago.

Well, assuming the iPhone X remains at $900 next year, the entry level iPhone X+ should start at $1200, and maybe $1350 for the 256 gb model?

I am predicting that about 30% of iPhone users would opt for this larger X. So there will be no shortage of demand. At either rate, the bottleneck will likely still be how many Apple can reasonably supply.

Throw in AppleCare, Airpods, accessories, yeah, you can easily hit the $2000 threshold without even trying. But to answer your question, I suppose it also depends on what Apple does with the iPhone and whether it gets enough new features to justify such a radical price tag. My guess is that we may see the price inch upwards ever so slightly every year (say ~$20 to $50) in exchange for much better cameras and some marquee feature now and then, but nothing so radical as a $2000 iPhone.

But what do I know? If Apple thinks the market can bear a $2000 iPhone, they will sell one. Just a question of when.

Possibly, a high percentage of devices got returned within 2 weeks.
Seems more plausible than a sudden production ramp-up (most playdough-kids already vanished from Chinese streets...)

I like new phones and technology, but I can't justify paying $1500 CAD for a phone. Animojis and Face ID just aren't worth it to me.

Good way to talk yourself out of a purchase by degrading the device. I can talk myself out of a Bentley too. I don’t need a V12 engine. It’s just a gimmick.

I’m not worried. If ship times had been a week from the beginning Apple would’ve been praised for being prepared. I don’t think it means doom if it’s a week now.

Indeed, the Notch seems to have faded all my consumptive aspirations. Just incredible how prevalent the role of design has become. It is the bar that obtrudes my end-of-year expenditures. I am so grateful - only Apple could have done this.

Same here.. I ordered the 256GB Space Grey model from AT&T on Nov 12, and it's showing an Estimated ship dates between December 11-18.
Same here. Ordered 256GB Space Gray on 11/13. No change from AT&T...

After a couple of weeks with the X I went back to my old 6+ to see how I feel about it. It feels antiquated.

funny, does this justify anything? no it does not. you can basically switch to any iphone form factor, like from a plus to an SE and it's only a matter of days/ weeks and you're used to that and find other iphones not fitting. big deal.

What happens when supply exceeds demand?

Are they going to have stock overflow? Picturing a "Trouble With Tribbles" Star Trek ep. Phone boxes multiplying at a fast rate and spilling out the doors.

Anyway, seems anyone who wants to put an X in Xmas will be able to soon. ;)

Shipping estimates for the iPhone X continue to improve, and in the United States, iPhone X models ordered today will arrive in just about a week.

Apple's online store in the U.S. is currently listing a delivery date of December 8 for all new iPhone X orders, meaning iPhone X orders will need to ship out in just a matter of days to meet that estimate.

The new under a week shipping estimates follow improved 1 to 2 week shipping estimates that were introduced on November 22.

iPhone X shipping estimates have also improved in Canada and multiple countries in Europe, while estimates are beginning to improve in Asia Pacific countries. The Canadian online store lists a shipping estimate of five business days, for example, while European stores list delivery dates of December 11. In Australia, New Zealand, and other countries, shipping estimates range from several days to two weeks.

Over the course of the last month, Apple has been significantly ramping up production in order to meet demand for the iPhone X, and as a result, we've seen shipping estimates that have improved drastically since the iPhone X first launched.

Following the October 27 pre-orders for the iPhone X, shipping estimates were as high as 5 to 6 weeks, but Apple has been able to improve supply earlier than expected. Initial rumors suggested the iPhone X would be heavily constrained and in short supply until well into the new year, but given the improvements we're seeing, Apple will likely reach supply/demand balance in the near future.

In addition to improving stock for online orders, Apple has also been shipping out iPhone X pre-orders more quickly than expected. Customers who initially had December order dates have been receiving their devices throughout November, and Apple retail stores have also been receiving regular shipments.

Back at the beginning of November, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple was working to ramp up iPhone X production week by week to get the new smartphone out to customers "as soon as possible."

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the improved iPhone X shipping estimates are indeed due to better-than-expected improvements in production rather than a lack of demand for the new device.

Exciting and superb news for iPhone X fans!! Kudos to Apple!!! Defeat all scalpers and reduce number of their victims!!

I ordered Oct 29th and still processing... probably won't see it till Christmas while people ordering right now will get it this week.
Do not worry!! You will get it eventually!!

So they can improve the delivery dates of the iPhone X after just one month, but it took them 6mo before the AirPods were readily available. Yeah, supply chain genius my ..... The demand simply isn't there.

My thoughts EXACTLY.

Ordered my daughter an X yesterday - notified it will arrive 12/8. Way less angst then when I did my pre-order and tried to figure out where it was in the delivery chain!
