Why have Apple started an advertising campaign so early then if they know all they are gonna do is hype up a product you wont be able to buy (as in supply equaling demand) until well into next year! They could save a fortune, dont advertise and its still going to be sold out for months!

O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?

just by the way....

So aren't they supposed to be MAKING the iPhone X now, but instead are still perfecting manufacturing of the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera and 3D facial recognition system?

Does that mean the ones they made already (if they have) don't have good TrueDepth cameras?

Seems Apple is just waiting for enough inventory of the sensors to built up to make production efficient. They don't want to have to start/stop the line because of a part depletion. That has been the assumed rationale for the late pre-sale date from the start. Once the production line cranks up they want to at least be at 50% capacity.

The ones in the wild are test units not production units. They probably do have quirks in them that is why they are test units. Question would be whether Apple's selected reviewers got test units or will wait until production units are available. Most top flight reviewers will not review a test unit though because of the confusion it creates even after they disclose to readers.

Will be 6-8 weeks by the end of the day on 10-27-17. As I've stated numerous times. You'll have 3 min to confirm your order after the pre-order process. :apple:

Skipping on both the 8 and 10 this time around even tho my 6s Plus is paid off. Its been a good run since Gen1 Iphone. Going to go the Android route with an LG V30. Hope those who really wants the 10 gets it! Cheers

I haven't seen much -- really any -- X advertising on TV or print. Only the 8. Regardless, Apple wants as many preorders as possible -- like Tesla. Apple knows X% will cancel their order either because of buyer's remorse or not wanting to wait. So it wants to pump up those preorder #s because they likely won't get too many orders after that if they get a message "Delivers by MLB Opening Day 2018."

The Samsung Galaxy 8+ has truly dismal face recognition. It's essentially useless. Hope Apple is much better.
I don't have an S8, but tbh, I've seen both praises and complaints. At this stage, if I were to get the S8 (I'm not, I'm locked into the apple ecosystem), I'd probably find out first hand on how good/bad it is.

I hope that the wait won’t be too long. I’m willing to wait 3 weeks from release date. I’ll probably pick up an iPhone 8 Plus if I can’t get one in under 4 weeks.

I don’t mind being a “beta tester” because I’ll be getting next year’s model as well. I’m still unsure about Face ID, but I want to at least try it. I really wish they had included Touch ID as well, though.

Apple has had time to get their **** together. There is not excuse for having production issues so close to release.

Facial recognition on the S8 is garbage. I have an S8 that I’m not using at the moment. I used it for a month. The iris scanner is slow as well. I ended up using the finger print scanner inspite of the horrible back location.

I don't think they are going to have an issue with demand this year. I just don't see the interest in this $1000 plus phone as compared to previous years. Sorry Apple.

I just don't get why everyone is so quick to move away from fingerprint scanners. IT WORKS, and IT'S EASY.
It's apparently not easy to get it to work under the display though.

I'm more concerned that having all of these production issues (if true) means that maybe some of the units that pass whatever test won't perform up to snuff. I.e. low yields and high returns...

At what point do those who laughed in the faces of people who decided to buy the 8/Plus and wait for the XI, start eating humble pie?

Even if they didn't announce the X, the 8 would have never been an option for me. It's too close to my 7.

I will order and cancel if it is delayed.

Let's face it. There is a new phone every year.
If Apple is not able to produce quality and quantity, it's no issue for me to skip.

I do not join the "I move over to Android" crowd. I see no reason to get a new phone.
The only reason to buy a 7 maybe, would be if my battery goes bely up.

I'm interested in Apple's quarter, I have not seen a lot of people who bought the 8 in real life.
If Apple cannot sell the units it wants to, you might see a dent in the earnings.

But of course it's the most successful phone they ever sold.
These stories just do not work for me anymore.

Technology is so good these days, I really don't need a new phone.
I want one for sure ... but I seriously consider buying an LG OLED TV in January instead.

1k for an iPhone or saving money for a great TV. I might go for the TV instead.

Really? I have an s8 and I've had zero issues with it. In fact it's too fast. Sometime I want to check the time or messages and it unlocks.

Yes, but I've also seen people praising it, which is my point. I think if you're interested in the S8, you need to see for yourself.

This kind of thing would lead me to not be surprised if the X has a number of issues once released.

From the ridiculous notch, to the fail at the apple event and production issues this device seems half baked in my opinion. That said, I'd never buy the first iteration of any tech device. Let the early adopters be the beta testers.

Actually, the notch was deliberate and required a lot more engineering effort... they had to make sure the display worked in that irregular shape and had to rework the UI as well.

I honestly don't get the notch hate. It can easily be hidden via software with a faux bezel. Apple could have been lazy about it and added physical bezels like every other unimaginative Android vendor but they decided to go the extra mile to create something cool, new and distinctive which they've accomplished with the X IMO.

(Not that I'm getting the X straight away, but). I'd have gone for the 8 if the camera features on the plus were available on the smaller model 8. The X seems to be the only way to get my desired feature set. I personally know others who want the same as me, so maybe there are millions of us across the world?

But isn't that most new iPhones? Lots of parasites that know anything iPhone is clickbait. And what is even better clickbait than bad news?

yea most new iPhones tend to had an issue one way or another especially the "newer" ones or 1st gen [6 had bendgate, 5 had shell scratches, 4 had antenna gate crap, 7 was...? idk]
