iPhone X Supply Revised Lower Yet Again as TrueDepth System Still Faces Production Issues

My take on this:

1. The people complaining of removal of touch ID and that it "just worked" obviously never had sweaty or wet hands. Also have perfect fingerprints. I can tell you if any bit of moisture on my fingers has been an issue. My son cannot even setup and use touch ID as his fingerprints are not deep enough or something.

Since you're addressing me, my response is that while not perfect for 100% of users (what technology is?), it is mature and tried-and-true technology. Sure wet fingers, or over-dry fingers have a problem, but that is why you register multiple fingers, or lick them, wipe dry and try again. Really, I am completely happy with TouchID (except for the fact is sometimes is TOO fast at recognizing my finger when I don't want to log in but just turn on the screen).

I cannot comment on your Son's condition except for the fact that he's in the extreme minority (I guess double-amputees might have a problem too if that helps your claim that TouchID doesn't "just work").

Apple has had time to get their **** together. There is not excuse for having production issues so close to release.

this is true in so many levels. given they know ppl were discussing about the 1000$ price tag mark and 10th anniversary pre rumor period and now is all the same thing as what the rumor have dictate... its kinda funny lol that they're delaying it longer ... uhh

This launch will be a complete and utter disaster again. If most early adopters won't get their $1000 toy before Christmas/New Years I doubt they'd want to bother getting it in early 2018 if a revised one is coming out in the fall again anyway.

Does anyone remember when Apple didn't ship a product unless it was ready? Clearly the X is compromise after compromise.

When was that, was it when they were selling iPhone without exotic features like ‘copy’ and ‘paste’? Or maybe when they were selling iPhones that dropped all signal if you were left handed?

It's back when Apple coined the phrase "It just works." :)

People are gonna be disappointed! First of all, the constrains will be severe not only due to the production issues, but also due to all the scalpers getting it in order to make some profit. These articles don't help either. There will be more people getting it only to resell it later. Second of all, there will be flaws and defects on the shipped phones. Most likely, a lot! Apple has always been like that. They always beta test these things on their customers and have always gotten away with it.
The issue is Apple is running out of competitive new ideas/technologies. Google is buying similar start-ups with similar technologies. Apple got to the point where it is the only way for them to maintain this sort of marketing lead. Releasing iPhone X is this desperate attempt. They release it mostly for shareholders. Obviously, they would've been better off releasing it next year, but they couldn't wait that long anymore! The iPhone 8 design is outdated and even though it's a great phone inside, the general audience does not care too much. It will be interesting to see how the future of the iPhone will look like. Next year we will see a bigger version of the X that they could not release this year at all due to various reasons, but after that there are no more really groundbreaking things to follow, I think.
Apple's response is gonna be the same old, same old: "we underestimated the demand for the iPhone X, we produced more iPhone 8/8 Pluses instead", which is a lie! The constrained components needed for the X have nothing to do with the 8.

trust me lol, people rave at the design for like the first week or two and baby the crap out of it, and then later on they just forgot what the design looks like and toss it around the bed. it happened to me even...

Yea they cant fake the demand of iPhone X to be honest, we aren't stupid. Afterall they did follow the exact detail rumor pricing that was speculated ages ago way b4 the iPhone 7 even came out... 1000USD starting price and 10th anniversary etc... surely

this is looking like the 11th year anniversary phone...the wait is on for next Sept launch!!

actually i have not decided, until i see the X shipping timeline

I don't think they are going to have an issue with demand this year. I just don't see the interest in this $1000 plus phone as compared to previous years. Sorry Apple.

Consider this: there are over 700m iPhones of various models in the wild worldwide. If only 5% buy one -- the 5% wealthiest iPhone users in the world -- that is 35 million off the bat. Then in places like the US add in buyers who recieve 0% financing coupled with pre-arranged trade in programs. It's not like most X buyers are writing a check for $1-1.4K. They are agreeing to pay $10 more a month. Same money, but not all at one time. That makes a big difference.

Also the 8+ isn't that much more expensive than the X, especially mentally when divided up in 12 or 24 payments. No problems selling that nearly $1K model. The key selling point of the X, at least to me, is a bigger screen in a footprint more similar to the 4.7" iPhone. The 8+ is too big for my comfort.

Makes me all the gladder that I went with the 8+. But to the rest, don't worry, the X form factor will be "top notch" by the time they get it all sorted out (sorry, couldn't resist the pun).

Completely untrue. iPhones have become so big that Apple could never introduce new technology in them, according to your logic. If they had to wait to scale all new tech, then we would be getting iPhones with 5-6 year old technology.

The simple fact is that it is extremely difficult to introduce cutting edge technology AND produce it in sufficient quantities to meet demand. If they waited to introduce the X technology until they could produce 250 million phones, we'd be waiting until 2022 or longer before it was released.

Only on MR do you find people saying:
1. A yet to be released phone is unstable and not working.
2. A yet to be released phone is backordered so far its pointless to buy it.
3. A yet to be released phone is plagued by a string of bad news from sources with zero proof.

Maybe this phone IS all of those things^ But lets stop acting like its factual when the the phone isn't even in anyone's hands yet.

Also to the person who said that Apple used to only do releases when a product was 100% ready...remember when the white iPhone 4 came out on time??

I've decided to sit this one out and wait for the refined version next year. At almost £1500 for the 256GB model and Apple Care and probably not receiving it until the new year, it would be crazy to spend that sort of money on something that will be replaced 9 months later.

My iPhone 7 is doing just fine.

I don’t like these reports of low stock. Hopefully all will smoothly for pre-orders for whatever quantity will actually be available. Yikes.

whether these stories are true or not, there are a lot of them. Either it is speculation because something new must be hard, or it is based on genuine information from the supply chain.

But it is odd that - if true - Apple still went ahead and announced a launch in 55 countries. Why not manage your risk and do a softer launch in fewer countries?
Apple/Tim Cook has been very hard at work reworking Apple’s image from a US Company to a global one and working very hard to show Apple is committed to its Asian market, especially its Chinese market. So it would probably come across badly at this point to do a soft launch, especially one that favors western markets. At the same time, favoring the Chinese market in any way would come across very badly in several western markets especially in the current political climate.

I don't think they have to change too much in the future:

McDonald's will always sell a Big Mac and be successful.
The Coca-Cola Company will always sell Coca-Cola and be successful.
Apple will always sell an iPhone and be successful.

Phones are just commodity items nowadays.
