Seems like Apples new mantra is to announce stuff waaaaaaaaaay before it’s ready. I suppose it’s to keep people interested. I miss the good old days where there were surprises at keynotes and reasonable availability.

You do realize the phone is supposed to be in consumers hands in 22 days? They're supposed to manufacture 36M phones in 22 days and they haven't even perfected the TD camera and 3D facial recognition? Seems "clear" to me there will be compromises in the first round of phones.

this is why im worried if i even want the iPhone X, i mean its new and all but holy crap... apple had 1 freaking year to test that feature out. wonder was this done on purpose to substantiate high demand therefore higher prices? or just being lazy and chill...

I just don't get why everyone is so quick to move away from fingerprint scanners. IT WORKS, and IT'S EASY.

Unless I misunderstood, it also enables animoji. If that’s correct, then the feature is less about enhanced security, and more of an entertaining gimmick to pacify a chronically bored user base.

that's true, i felt kinda disappointed at the iPhone 8/8+/X keynote, was watching it and was left confused. like really confused.

there was no wow factor for me really, i think the last time they wowed me was at the 6s 2015 keynote. that was probably the best one i've seen to date and will be the last. 2016 n 2017 was relatively stale.... and 2014 i didnt have iphone back then so it didn't matter hahaha

One might as well just wait until next year's releases at this point. By then they will have adopted the iPhone X's form factor across the whole line, as well as worked out the bugs and production issues. A person might actually be able to purchase an iPhone with the new design by then.

i think the animoji is literal gimmick, how many people are going to use it anyway. i mean its nice to see emojis contour and reflect your expressions which is a nice feat but in the reality, but most people are still going to think of it as an emoji irregardless.

not that im saying iPhone X is a dud just because of animojis i just feel that they didn't do much during the keynote that I was left blank for a few days trying to comprehend myself around this actual "surprise"

My take on this:

1. The people complaining of removal of touch ID and that it "just worked" obviously never had sweaty or wet hands. Also have perfect fingerprints. I can tell you if any bit of moisture on my fingers has been an issue. My son cannot even setup and use touch ID as his fingerprints are not deep enough or something.

2. Also to the people complaining about face ID and loss of touch ID are probably the same ones that complain that Apple is not innovative enough. They remove old tech to make way for new tech and people complain, but they say they want the latest tech? Color me confused. . .

3. I think face ID has the potential to be a great thing if it is implemented properly. It has a higher potential to crash and burn though. There has to be ALOT of tech involved for complex 3d facial mapping and to do it in low light. If they can pull it off at launch time with success, it will be the new standard.
I had an S8 for a few days. I loved many things about it, but ultimately returned is because of USB-C compatibility issues. I can promise you though that the IRIS scanner was FAR from perfect. I really have my doubts that 3/4 the time that it even saw my iris to scan it before it unlocked. The other 1/4 it just flat out did not work or recognize and asked to move the phone closer or further. Anyone who told me it works great, does not have a technical background to understand what it should be looking for and how secure it should actually be.

I didn't want an X because I was pissed about what they pulled this year with the multiple devices and memory changes. I deff refused to buy an 8 because its too close to my 7. Problem is the S8 did not work as a core device due to usb-c and my iphone 7 struggles with problems since day one that I just left go since its on a 12 month upgrade. I think I will bite the bullet and attempt for the X. If the wait time is nuts from preorder, I will just cancel and wait until the next cycle next year.

So aren't they supposed to be MAKING the iPhone X now, but instead are still perfecting manufacturing of the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera and 3D facial recognition system?

Does that mean the ones they made already (if they have) don't have good TrueDepth cameras?

There’s a huge difference between manufacturing something and manufacturing something at an incredibly large scale, in an incredibly short period of time.

It doesn't matter how scarce it is, the fact that the AppleCare alone costs more than the iPhone SE should say something.

lol just slap a decent case on, i know it sucks but better to compromise the case rather than the actual unit...
have been using 6s 7 and 8, with no applecare since, the case did the trick.

Sounds like the "X" is going to be quite the winner, it's getting expensive to be an early adopting guinea pig for dodgy new tech replacing perfectly decent existing tech!

Then when you are suppose to move forward with new tech. It is not like fingerprint scanners will all of a sudden "no longer be perfectly decent existing tech". Move forward or get left behind.

This sucks if true. I’m going to pre-order at midnight. If I can’t get it within the first week or two i’ll probably cancel the order. I don’t know if i’ll wait 6+ (according to rumors) weeks

People for waiting months after launch just to get an iPhone 7. From what I have been reading and gleaning from sites and forums, demand for the X will reach far beyond any other iPhone in history, while at the same time having one of the lowest initial inventory volumes, so I’m willing to bet if you don’t get one in the first few minutes then you will be waiting several months, at least.

1) yes this is true!!! wet hands were the usual reason why touchID sometime never worked for me and i just scrambled for 4 digit passcode anyway.
2) this is quite innovative already, i like the concept and it looks promising. didn't care about the stuff up on stage because people have fiddled with the stage phone which may have caused it to require a passcode.
3) it looks impressive by the initial previews no doubt. i like the way they went around it using million of dots to project an image and the rejection of photo/model images. Yea agree with u... I wanted 128GB as it is the fine middleground, but they gave two compromises literally :\ 64GB and 256GB... ended up going for 64gb as i cant pay 250$ for a storage upgrade... 150$ was a lot already for an up tier here [it did cost 300aud before to go 32gb to 256gb but thats a relative huge jump over todays 250aud 64>256]

You've got exactly 1.8 seconds to tap "Buy" at midnight on October 27 to get an iPhone X on November 3rd.

When I tried to buy the Apple Watch on its release, waiting with my finger hovering over the screen, I got a message saying that it was time for me to update my password and wouldn't let me buy anything until I did. Worst. Timing. Ever. By the time I changed my password, I had lost 3 weeks on my Watch delivery. Moral of the story: update your passwords a few days before the pre-order.

If you wait months you might as well wait for the next version
