christ the amount of hate you guys have for the X is insane. My wife and I love ours and it runs rings around the galaxy s8+
Christ the amount of love you have for the X is insane. Somebody and their wife hates it and think the S8+ runs rings around it.:)

Different people. Different opinions. One no more right or wrong than the other.

True. I guess after having a years hiatus from iOS I am less "jaded" than most.

Well the only decent stat for Apple is China growth! Make that last sentence 'evidence C' if you want, it's still true.

The massive 10.1% increase in China, alone, will dramatically impact Apple's earnings and outlook, countering the narrative of Apple "losing" China.

Other data are actually good, with a 2.5% jump in Germany, a key country and a staggering 55.2% penetration in Japan.

More importantly, market share is only half of the story: the average selling price after the iPhone X introduction has probably skyrocketed.

Japan had some growth as well ... yet other than USA and China everywhere else has been single digit or even decimal point gains and losses.

Something about Apple's product markting (across the range) still feels "too USA" focused. I think TV/Web marketing should change to a more globally-local focus ... tell more of stories of joy, love, enjoyment and inclusion (life, family, friendships, community) in their future ads. They did great with banners before store openings in China ... but other than just opening stores ... what have they really done for Japan, UK, EUS, UAE, etc? Heck Canada doesn't get any ad focused or related to our way of life here ... then again we just mimic the USA.

You think ads reflect USA life?

To me, ad campaigns are all about precocious young teens, 20-somethings, alternative lifestyles, and music.

Some ads have really creeped me out. I ignore them.

The more this circus continues, (orders cut in half, top three selling smartphone, “discontinued”) the more I believe IMore has the correct policy. Until apple reports results, ignore “analysts” predictions, and “analytics firms” sales numbers.

Yes I do ... hence the "precocious young teens, 20-somethings, alternative lifestyles, and music" and yes some ads also have creeped me out as well.

I regret my X purchase. Simply because I don't think it's worth the $1000. Face-ID is carp and don't work most time. It needs refinement.
I have had my iPhone X since launch. FaceID was a bit intermittent at first and then I re-did the face scan. Since then it has been much better such that it very rarely fails to ID me straightaway. I would try re-training it to your face. If that fails take it to Apple.

You're conflating two different topics that shouldn't be mashed together. Future production is typically based on sales trends. Being in the top 3 in December does not mean sales were trending up. Hypothetically, the X could have sold more in November than December.
Don't waste your typing finger's effort - he/she disputes every single piece of "bad" news about Apple as fake.

Apple's new iPhone X climbed best-selling charts in Europe, Japan, Australia, the United States, and China

reading comprehension has really gone downhill lately.
So true. That apparently willful blindness plus widespread Apple hate and disdain on a Mac-focused site is causing me to suspect that MacRumors has a fake comment problem.

Yeah I know lol I love my iPhone X
Ditto. Love my X too. It’s the best phone I’ve had. I believe the iPhone X hate is largely iPhone X envy.

Wish they have numbers for other Asian markets like SE Asian countries, India, etc.
In any case, most of the numbers are what already expected, with only minor percentage point adjustments due to Windows Phone going bye-bye. Apple still rules in markets like Japan.

Well, it is indeed a nice phone. And the notch is actually not that much of a problem as long as you use the phone mostly in portrait orientation. It still doesn't justify the cost for me, but I have to admit it looks quite sleek.

I don't think this is all that surprising the X is the first truly fresh phone out of Cupertino in a long time even if it came with a steep price tag.

Doesn’t production on many things usually get cut after the holidays? Also, production for a new model would likely be at its greatest at launch, since that is when demand will be the highest. Now that the “gotta have it” demand is met, production levels fall to meet “end of contract” upgrades.

Considering this was also a new premium tier of phone pricing, I think we might be seeing that more of Apple’s customers are brand loyal, but not the crazy “gotta have it” sheep stereotype. The 6S and 7 are still good phones, and there isn’t near the incentive to upgrade to the latest as there once was when noticeable improvements could be found across the entire phone.

I think smartphone sales in general are down a bit considering many last a long time and people aren't rushing to adapt to new features. Apple will continue to make the best hardware and software, but the sales numbers will plateau. Ultimately, it won't matter as long as people are buying an iPhone, whether it's an X or otherwise.

How is the iPhone X doing in India with the $1000 tag?
Probably better than you think.
I went to Indonesia and there are more iPhone X around than I would expect, a lot more.
In some markets, Apple managed to do a deal with some local carriers to offer the iPhone X under contract, thus it suddenly appears more "affordable" than a lum-sum $1K price tag. Ironic isn't it. Markets like the US are moving away from contracts, while emerging markets are embracing contracts.

my point is—ads represent minority POVS and nothing near what I experience in my American life.

Apple aims those to their developing markets or folks who appreciate the visions shared. Granted, I would have much more “appreciated” the ads when I was a precocious teen or mid-20s.

Today, I can’t “unsee” the lithe young man in the electric tutu riding the skateboard.

That ad and others like it would “unsell” an Apple product to me now.

The company assumes a 30-year devotee will continue to buy without advertising beyond product announcements and reviews. No more straight-jacket bland IBM guy and cute MAC guy.
