Does anyone else’s iPhone X make a weird cracking noise every once and a while? It sounds like it’s coming from the Taptic Engine. It’ll make a weird noise when I 3D Touch

That doesn't sound normal and shouldn't be doing that. Without Anyone on here actually hearing it, I would suggest making a Genius appointment to have Apple look at it.

Actually yes.

When I’m doing quite a few texts and other things at once, I do hear/feel a random click from the haptic engine. I assumed I was doing too many things at once and got simultaneous alerts and confused the Haptics. I believe it happened a few times when I got two texts at once, or a text and a Facebook message....something like that. Doesn’t concern me. Everything works great and probably just a hiccup. Haptics work great otherwise. Probably was just overloading it. Might be fixed in next iOS 11.X.X.

Yeah so I figured out how to replicate the problem.

If you initiate a haptic feedback while getting a notification/vibration it makes that weird cracking noise.

Mine just started doing this. Easy way to replicate is to go into Soubds, select like the phone call sound, go to select a vibration pattern, and tap between them. -_- Dammit.

This is a bug under 11.2.1 and 11.1.2. Under 11.2.1 its very annoying. But under 11.1.2 it only happens if you turn off the haptic feedback. But under 11.2.1 it happens no matter i turn off the haptic feedback. The only way to avoid this strange clicking is to mute the iphone X. When you mute your iphone X under 11.2.1 the strange clicking sound dissapears. And even when you dismiss the control center, a normal haptic feedback happens. So guess it’s software. I hope they corrected it in a future update.

I got that issue for some time now and that was a great way to recreate it.
I updated to 11.2.5 beta 3 and it was gone. Now I went back to the recent iOS and its gone too.

I don't know if the Software was fixed (actual can't be when I went back) or if the issue comes back soon.

I get a weird click if I activate reachability then swipe up from the bottom. Phone has to not be on silent.

Yep, I have that too. That the exact clicking noise I got with my issue. I can’t tell now if that’s still in the iOS 11.2.5 tho.

I'm on 11.3.1 and my iPhone X still has the cracking sound when it vibrates. I don't think it did this in the first few months :/

EDIT: Apple replaced the phone in the end.
