Global shipments of Apple's new iPhone lineup should exceed 85 million units in the second half of the year, according to research conducted by DigiTimes, with the more budget-friendly iPhone XR expected to account for over half of all sales.

I believe it. Although I have no intention of getting rid of my 6s plus, if for some reason I had to get a new iPhone the Xr is most likely the model I would get. It more than meets my modest needs.

am I reading this correctly? It has a lower screen resolution than my ancient iPhone 6?

Lower ppi, smaller size in pixels on any side, side ratio definitely inferior for reading/browsing in any orientation than my 7 Plus has. And no 3d touch, which personally I find useful for correcting typos. Will definitely recommend 7 or 7 Plus to my friends who would like to buy an iPhone this year. That I can afford any iPhone doesn't mean that wasting money makes sense.

As for cameras, anyone who has personally compared the photos top Samsung and Apple devices take in low light conditions (for the last three years at least!) and those who have seen Samsung phone cameras with a mechanical diaphragm will just laugh at Apple's marketing talk about their incredible achievements in photography.

The only thing that keeps me with Apple is their attitude towards privacy and their stance against three-letters.

Shame it doesn't even have a 1080p screen or 3D touch. So its actually inferior to what its supposed to replace in that regard

$650 was the flagship price 2 years ago... It’s gone up $350 in 2 years for the base flagship model. I guess people are OK with this change though.
It was? The plus models were more. Also was that still with the pathetic 16gb or was it almost pathetic 32gb storage ? In any case the phones come base with 2x storage as well. So there are more features etc in there. I remember paying for my 6 plus 64 gb I guess $850?

What really is bad is AppleCare price increase. Wow.

Ultimately if it’s too expensive for you don’t buy it.

Some are, some aren’t. But that $650 flagship phone from 2 years ago is only $450 today, and it’s just as good a phone now as it was then. That’s a great deal, and a viable choice for many. Just because there’s something newer/faster/better now available doesn’t subtract from the (once flagship) features of the iPhone 7.

If people want “better” they can buy iPhone 8/8 Plus/XR/XS/XS Max. But “better” will be more expensive.

I'm a little torn as I am on the annual upgrade program with an iphone 8. I feel like I should always take advantage of the program, but I really like everything about the 8, from it's size, 3-D touch, and speed. I watch some live sports on it but don't take many pictures. Unless someone can give me a good reason to upgrade this year, I probably won't.

Like the iPhone 4s and 5s eand 6s and 5c, the new phones are spelled “iPhone Xs” and “iPhone Xr” so cut it out.

Tell that to Apple.

No, it has a higher screen resolution but exactly the same PPI which means either coming from either any one of the 4.7” iPhone 6, 7, or 8 models and you’re going to feel right at home.

I am going to need to see them side by side to see if I want the XR or the XS.

I am concerned about the XR having lower resolution than my iPhone 7 Plus that I have now.

Again really need to see them and see what they really look like.

I dont care if that is 720 or 1080 or whatever as long as I feel comfortable with using it and dont see pixels. Thats why I need to see reviews before buying. If the reviews will be negative I will just use my 7 plus another year. If i could only get the oleophobic coating back...;(
I’m in the same boat. The ol 7 plus is still working fine

No, it’s not. You’re wrong.
Ohhhhhh, I get it. I said “RAM” when I meant storage, and you ran with it. Okay. The iPhone XS/XS Max have twice the storage as the XR.

Turns out benchmarking has indicated 4GB RAM in the XS/Max and 3GB RAM in the XR. Not confirmed by Apple or iFixIt, natch, but there it is.

I was genuinely curious whether something was known about the RAM that I wasn’t aware of.

I ran with it? How was I supposed to know what you meant?

Seems you have trouble admitting you’re wrong. /shrug

So I am having a hard time deciding between buying the Xs or the Xr. I currently have an iPhone 7 and I do not like the size of the iPhone 7/8 Plus at all since I have small hands. So my concern with the iPhone Xr is the that it will feel too large to me just like the Plus models do. I understand the screen and camera is not as good on the Xr, but putting those things aside should I bite the bullet on the iPhone Xs even though the cost is considerably higher? Any advice or insights?

People like the colors. The XR would sell like hotcakes. Weather you want 12MP camera, or not, you don't have that choice anymore with features.

Kinda sad really.

The only advantage in the XR are the colors,, single lens camera, and LCD, pretty much.

Many of the colors are bad just like 5C was. Coral blue and yellow should be more intense instead of pale, pastel style ones. Product RED is gorgeous as usual, black and white are neutral

ads as usual if you buy RED, proceeds go to help support HIV...

Ditto. Starting to think this could be the slow unwinding of my tech relationship with Apple. I’m waiting to see what Google offers in the pixel line this year and will go from there.

I was considering the same until I realized how evil of a company Google has become. Apple may be greedy, but at least they respect people's privacy and don't mine every single email in your inbox or every notification on your phone for data they can sell to advertisers.

And this entire time, I thought everything on the internet was private.
