Anyone notice this at the end of the iPhone video on apple's website?

Wonder if they just need to apply for compliance or if it's failing compliance testing...

I'd compare this more to the iPad mini 4 which weighs 298 grams compared to the Xr at almost 200g.

The iPad mini is just about as hard to carry but comes with an even bigger screen, for about 30% of the price.

Are the bezels on the XR wider than the XS or is it the bright colors making it stand out more?

Am I the only one that thinks these would outsell the XS and XS Max of all 3 were released at he same time?

I’m not sure just because of single lens camera. I am sure Apple is staggering the releases to get more sales of the XS from the gotta have the newest phone right away crowd. A lot of those people might have been buying the XS anyway but I’m sure there’s some who would see the colors of the XR in person and maybe change their mind. I’m assuming the XR won’t be on display in stores until October.

Yes, they’re significantly wider on the XR, compared to the XS. Enough to lose the “edge-to-edge” illusion, if you ask me. Others won’t care.

There was a leak over the summer of the three front covers, and it was plain to see. Really, the bezels aren’t much smaller than the side bezels of the 6s/7/8.

US$750 for a bloody phone? What kind of stuff do they smoke at Apple? I don't know about you folks, but when it's time to upgrade my current iphone 6, my next "iphone" will be an android worth not more than US$300 or $400. For now, I'll just get a new battery and continue not having emoji, animoji, memoji and whatever other "carp" there is.

I don’t understand who would buy this??

Those that want the latest/greatest will all want the XS...

And those that can’t afford (or don’t want to spend) the XS have the 7 at $449.

Cheap option and the best option. I don’t know who would be in the middle?

I too would go for the XR, unless camera and display were the most important choice..

Not everyone wants the greatest in the Apple realm. You need a middle option... the 7 is getting a bit "long-in-the-tooth",very similar to the 8, there is a new model out. Plus its only a matter of time before Apple starts disconcerting these other models anyway...Nothing stays around forever.

Alternatively, if you want cheap look for the iPhone SE. That's about as cheap as your gonna get.

It costs $749 and people call it cheap? Yea, compared to a merc. But I guess people with too much money and need for a silly colored kid version of an iPhone are going to throw their money at it.

I do have to say, they chose their words perfectly: "but that adjustable bokeh effect for portrait photos looks sick". Sick indeed. But not in a good way. You'd think they could use some of that computing power to making something useful instead of these stupid effects that don't really work the way they should. But then again, I guess people watch other people's instagram photos from a tiny screen and can't tell the difference from that pixel mush. They're too busy to feel how light their wallets feel after buying this failure.

I would, as the screen is big enough with a powerful camera, and that is powered by A12. That kind of PPI is acceptable by Steve Jobs so I would also accept.

It seems that everyone wants an SE if you only read opinions on Mac Rumours, but the reality is not.

...Additionally, The Verge described the iPhone XR as noticeably lighter in comparison to the XS...

Well, since I'm rather concerned about weight I did some fact checking.
Turns out The Verge are wrong on this one:

iPhone XS
Weight 6.24 ounces / 177 grams

iPhone XS Max
Weight 7.34 ounces / 208 grams

iPhone XR
Weight 6.84 ounces / 194 grams

The XR is actually 17 grams heavier than the XS.

Would be nice if they started with 128GB as standard.

At least on the Xs and Xs Max since they cost a lot more.
I get it, the Xr is their entry level and they had to ditch some features like 3D touch and Dual camera, but otherwise is a great phone and has the same design without the home button.
It is ok for a phone like this to start a 64GB but the Xs for $250 more has the same storage. A difference of $150 or 128GB as a start would have been much better

im just going to get the iphone x than xr.. really not much difference.. xr have a bigger screen but display will be lacking, so many colors to choose than iphone x.. now that the iphone x will be cheaper than before.. so im going for iphone x & go to my carrier & purchased it

Where to start...

It's price. £750 is really expensive for a lower to mid tier product. Compared to Android spec phones at this price it's daylight robbery.

It only seems cheap because the XS and XS Max are so freaking expensive.

The screen is too low res for the size. Not even as good as an 8Plus screen despite being 6.1 inches.

Its huge, it's heavier. Its got chunkier bezels.

The processor is fast, but let's face it the X processor was already blinding fast anyway.

The previous X was so much a better phone in every way so if you can still pick up an X for anywhere near this price now, you got a better deal.

On the positive side I like the colours and there is a 128GB option which means I don't get robbed going to 256 for no reason just to get more than 64 on the XS.

Not the best Apple event...
XR has too many compromises (low res screen being the main one), yet is still very expensive for what you actually get.
XS is still too small, and whilst the XS Max is pretty much perfect tech wise, I'm pushed to the 256Gb option as I need more than 64Gb and that price is an eye watering £1249.

Yep.. £1249.
To spend that much money on a phone probably warrants me be labelled as clinically insane.

The S9 plus I'm using at present was about £850 in comparison. Wow. And I thought that was expensive.

About the removal of 3D Touch - in the car industry, when high tech features debut in the flagship models, they eventually trickle down to the economy models. Once they do they become permanent value additions that benefit all future consumers.

Dropping functionality that many have grown accustomed to and is useful (despite the spin that people rarely use it), just smacks of anti-consumer behavior. The iPhone 8 that launched at $700 has 3D Touch; no reason why a phone that costs $50 more at launch shouldn’t have it.

Most poorly implemented feature by Apple on the iPhone. Nothing like an invisible interface with no visual cues to indicate it's available. On tech challenged iphone users its the first thing I turn off as the damn thing causes so much confusion (users often push very hard on their iphone screens, thus directing them into the hidden 3d touch interface which is confusing).

I go back and forth with 3DT, as a tech enthusiast with a long history as a developer, I appreciate companies exploring new interaction models with touch devices. On the other hand, outside of a few places where it doubles up the gestures on a single UI element, it's either awkward (for 2 level 3DT functions, I always find myself "pressing through" the first tier menu) or simply substituting for a long-press

I think the most telling thing for the, let's call it, "general consumer", is how few people use it or even know it's there - I've shown a few friends the context menu on apps from Springboard, and after they go, "Oh, that neat, I didn't know", they quickly return to the launch-and-choose method of using apps.

Why dont you see it in real life before you judge? Day to day use you might not even care...

Because specs, then I can post my specs vs. your specs, because my specs are better and then I can spec, with my spec and spec and specs ... :D
