So, I went to try the iPhone Xr in the Apple store. I was quite disappointed. The issue is it's too big for me to use one-handed, specifically, without a home button I cannot hold it in one hand and go to the home screen. I can and do use my iPhone 7 a lot one-handed. I tried the iPhone Xs, and that is the exact right size where I can reach down and go to the home screen while I hold it in one hand. But that is $1000. My wish: Apple will re-introduce a smaller, "cheap," phone for the next generation.

I cannot be the only one who wishes for a phone that can be used one-handed, and that does not cost $1000?

No I think there are others, but unfortunately that is simply not the direction that Apple is heading at this point. Xr is a good size phone and being a tad bit thicker it is tough to try to use it one handed, but I manage it okay. It's easier to manage than the Max. Nonetheless I understand the price thing. Hopefully at some point Apple will address this.

I think your options right now are either to find maybe a discounted 2017 iPhone X that is cheaper Under the XS or possibly wait until 2019 to see if Apple reintroduces a smaller version of the iPhone XR, which that’s only speculative at this point.

No. They didn’t. Those who are absolutely cash starved will buy XR. There are others who will stick to X/XS/2019 X and so on. In 2019 assuming these same sizes are available I’ll upgrade my 2017 X to a 2019 then X 5.8”. I have no choice. XR is way too big. The same goes for many people.

If they did it in a louder fashion it would become too obvious.

More than likely I will return my XR, found heavy & bulky. After waking up I didn’t even use my brand new XR instead used iPhone 8 because of light weight, reaching across the screen is so comforting. I really liked the colors of XR and all but I feel pain in hand after holding for while. Looks wise there are no phones that can beat Max & XR.

I’m definitely not cash starved, but will still buy the XR. Don’t assume things cause it doesn’t fit your needs.

Definition of cash starved is different. If the XR is unusable for you and you’re not cash starved you’d get the XS. If the size isn’t a deal breaker it obv doesn’t matter to you.

The iPhone Xr is actually a bit smaller than my 7+, but I agree, larger phones are in vogue. I like the size of the Xs but will have to wait until after Xmas. Too many bills to pay toward the end of the year.

Huh, definition is different? So what’s your definition of cash starved? But then again, why am I wasting time arguing about this. You can think whatever you want cause at the end of the day Apple will likely sell more XR than XS units.

The XR is a beautiful iPhone. I was surprised at how much I love it.
I prefer my Max, but will easily recommend it to anyone including family members already to
spend less.

My wife is a bit concerned there’s no longer an iPhone similar in size to her iPhone 8 and she absolutely hates the size of my 8+. When she next upgrades if there is not a smaller version of the XR it’s probably going to mean she’ll run her 8 into the ground.

They do need to make smaller sizes lol. I love my Max, but it's a big iPhone!

This is unfortunate. Apple seems to have snubbed those who want a small screen & value for money. SE fans especially would be feeling pretty insulted with this year's lineup.

Agreed, XR is a brick. Even the standard XS is in the grey area of what’s an acceptable size. 7 is perfect size, if there turns out not to be an XR mini then I’ll probs using the 7 until it’s no longer supported

She had an iPhone 6 when it came out and hated it. She bought the SE and kept that for 2 years but it got so buggy she reluctantly got the 8 as her upgrade and has got used to it. She takes the mick out of my 8+ and I must admit I get a bit of stick at work as it’s a big device. Nearly everyone I know is either using a 7 or 8 currently. Those that like standard size devices seem to be frozen out going forward unless they pay at least £1k and that’s going to upset some I’d say.

I kept my SE. There are times when Xr is too big

It'll be interesting to see how Apple's 2019 line-up looks, in both size & price diversity. & whether they bring back some value to those wanting a smaller screen/form factor.

While the screen size of the XS is bigger, the actual physical footprint of the XS is about the same as the 8.

I wouldn’t consider the XS for her or myself because it costs £1000 at least. It’s a hell of a purchase just to replace her iPhone 8 that was not far off half the price. She’s got the same mindset as me where she likes an iPhone but doesn’t think they are worth a grand. She may be able to pick up a brand new XS in 2 years time though and take advantage of its lower price by then maybe?
