Yes. Because most people don’t want to spend USD 1000.

I thought it was because they were 'cash starved'? Not wanting to spend 1000 dollars and not having 1000 to spend are two different things. Did it ever occur to you that a lot of people are sensible and realize that a 1000 dollar phone is a waste of money and they'd be equally served by spending 750? Or do you live in a bubble where you think that you need to have the 'best' phone in order to impress?

No. They didn’t. Those who are absolutely cash starved will buy XR.

Why are there so any assumptions that the XR is for poor white trash? Speaking for myself cost had nothing to do with my decision. My decision was based on....

-Not liking OLED.
-None of the other X series is available in 128gb
-The form factor is ideal
-I don't care about 3D touch or a second camera

People need to get off this stupid kick that people are only buying the XR because it's all they can afford. It's getting almost as old as the ppi cry babies.

My wife is a bit concerned there’s no longer an iPhone similar in size to her iPhone 8 and she absolutely hates the size of my 8+. When she next upgrades if there is not a smaller version of the XR it’s probably going to mean she’ll run her 8 into the ground.
The iPhone Xs is definitely similar in size to 6, 7, and 8.

There is a difference in user experience though because the bottom and top bezels have been removed and replaced with the screen, so one-handed use requires a bit more stretch top to bottom.

Oh I know, but as I said above it’s not viable as a current device due to price. Paying upwards of £1k just to get a smaller phone is a bit silly so by the time she upgrades I hope Apple still stock it but cheaper due to it being an older device by then.

I have pretty small hands, and the only thing I can’t reach when I’m using one hand on the XR is the top left corner between the notch and the edge of the phone. I can reach the keyboard for one-handed texting much more easily than I could on my 8+, even though there really isn’t much difference in the phone width. I guess that narrower screen coupled with the slightly narrower width really helps for me with the keyboard.

I use a Loopy case. I know they aren’t for everyone, but they are AMAZING for being able to really reach places on your phone without worrying about dropping it. I have convinced a small army of people to go Loopy!

I think my mum will struggle when she wants to replace her SE. The Xr will be too big for her. However she used her iPhone 4 for 7 years and only got the SE last year so she’s probably got a while to go yet.

I have the opposite problem. I have very large hands and I find any size phone under the XS too small. The XS is probably the best size for a one fits all phone. Still, I prefer the larger phones, however, I did find the plus size phones just slightly too wide to hold comfortably over time - I have not had the issue with the Max yet (which is weird since they are the same width).

I was waiting for the Xr to upgrade from my 8, I suspected it was going to be too big and it was. So went with the 5.8" Xs, really happy with the size, marginally bigger than the 8 but more screen obviously. Only had it 24 hours but so far so good.

Wasn't really keen on the price tag, but I paid it because I had it, my 8 still has 1 year on Apple care and it's in perfect condition so will get a decent chunk back once I sell it.

It was close though, I spent two weeks comparing many other phones, there are so many good options out there that I could live with, but have stuck with it for one more round.

No. They didn’t. Those who are absolutely cash starved will buy XR. There are others who will stick to X/XS/2019 X and so on. In 2019 assuming these same sizes are available I’ll upgrade my 2017 X to a 2019 then X 5.8”. I have no choice. XR is way too big. The same goes for many people.

If they did it in a louder fashion it would become too obvious.
Excuse me? “Absolutely cash starved” ?

Many people base upgrade decisions on which devices they use most. A lot of folks also have Macs, iPads etc. Deciding not to buy a phone that will cost more than a computer is a wise choice for many.

I, like many others use my phone daily, texting, twitter, Facebook an occasional pic or game but it goes right on the charger after the work day. The XR serves those needs well, has enough battery to get us through a full working day & leaves a few bucks in the wallet to go towards that new iPad.

I wanted a Max, after carrier fee, tax, new case, tempered glass screen cover we were looking at well over $1,200.

Very happy with my new XR & feel I made a smart purchase for me. Others have different needs, why degrade anyone for what they own?

You don’t understand. What I mean is if you have tiny hands and can’t use a XR then buy a XS. If you insist on the XR despite hating the large size, it means cash is a problem.

I am a woman with tiny hands, size 5 ring finger. Heck a lot of kids bigger hands! I can easily hold the XR & use gestures with one hand. This phone is longer but a bit narrower than my old 6S Plus so I don’t understand this too big thing?

I've had about a day and half with my XR (coming from a 7) so it might be too early to make a good judgement but I too am finding it a little too big/heavy/thick for comfortable use, and I'm 6'4" and can comfortably hold the XR. Maybe I can get used to it but I'm not really sure. I bought the XR not because of its cost but rather the 128GB option which is the sweet spot for me (64 is too little and 256 is way overkill for my use) and its battery life, which I have to admit it's been surprisingly great even from just using it for over a day.

I'm seriously considering returning the XR and going with the XS, but unsure whether I'll got 64 or 256. Why oh why didn't they offer a 128GB option...

Well for many people including me it is too big. You probably don’t use it one handed.
I just laid the XR next to my 6S Plus, both devices in cases. The screens are different as the 6S is wider, the XR gives more screen real estate because the home button is gone.

Out playing a game last night, Pokémon Go, one handed and it was pretty easy. Now if you told me the phone was too tall to fit neatly into a business shirt pocket, that I could understand. Btw, please refrain from making assumptions about how I use things,

Exactly, all these “cash is a problem” comments are ridiculous. If it was double the price I get it, but $750 versus $1000? There is a certain point where you question something but if you are spending $750 for a smartphone you might as well factor in all your options then. These cash comments remind me why I visit discussion boards less and less.

Like you I hate oLED, I think it is an overrated cash grab. I probably would have snatched up an XR if there was a carrier free version. XS screen is too small and the Max too big, for my tastes. The 6.1 is just right.

While the screen size of the XS is bigger, the actual physical footprint of the XS is about the same as the 8.

The iPhone Xs is definitely similar in size to 6, 7, and 8.

Really depends on your definition of similar. As mentioned elsewhere... The X and XS is actually ~23% larger and ~35% heavier than the iPhone 6. I consider that pretty significant and if it was the other way Apple would be shouting that from every rooftop!

Quite trying talk for others. You have no opinion when it comes to what others prefer and why they have that preference. Why are you so bothered by whether or not someone prefers the XR?

there really isn’t much size difference between the Xr and XS once you add a case.

I thought the Xr would be too big but my wife got one and it’s actually a pretty comfortable size.

I actually wish the XS had the same dimensions with slightly bigger screen of the Xr.

Why can’t we all just enjoy the devices we picked & be grateful we have the means to choose at all? So many in the world have so little... let’s just be happy & grateful

I love my new red phone, it’s fast, so fast, having gestures is like coming home & the battery life is amazing:) I hope everyone else is enjoying their new phones just as much, regardless of which model you chose

Don’t backtrack. We understood clearly when you said cash starved.

I agree. I loved the size and weight of the iPhone 6-8, but the larger screen on a phone that is not much bigger is the winner for me. I'm older and it is so much easier to read on the XS.

And a little more on how you money theory holds water as well as a sieve.

The majority of buyers get their phones on device payment plans of some sort. The difference between an XR and an XS is around $10 a month. Most people are not going to settle on a phone over one they really want based on $2.50 a week. They are going to get the one they want.

You really need to quit before you insult or piss off anyone else with your lame assumptions.

For me the Xs is the perfect size, I have medium sized hands and carry a 12.9" IPP all day for work. I do think though Apple will release a smaller Xr variant. They may be saving it for a mid cycle release or next years iPhone intro.

Because some people just want to watch the world burn. They aren't happy unless they try to make others feel inferior or make them feel like they have to defend their decisions.

Speaking for myself I'm perfectly happy with my welfare iPhone. It's way better than my former 7 plus. And blows the Pixel 2 XL, which it replaced, out of the water. Out of the many smart phones I have owned over the last 9 years it is probably my second favorite of all time. The top spot goes to my old Droid X. Which in it's day was an incredible piece of tech.
