And a little more on how you money theory holds water as well as a sieve.

The majority of buyers get their phones on device payment plans of some sort. The difference between an XR and an XS is around $10 a month. Most people are not going to settle on a phone over one they really want based on $2.50 a week. They are going to get the one they want.

You really need to quit before you insult or piss off anyone else with your lame assumptions.
Exactly! Also most people don’t make blind choices. In my house there is a tech budget, if I really, really wanted the Max I could have gotten one but that would have been it for the year. The choice of case color & battery life on the XR sold me, having a few bucks left in the wallet was just icing on the cake

Because some people just want to watch the world burn. They aren't happy unless they try to make others feel inferior or make them feel like they have to defend their decisions.

Speaking for myself I'm perfectly happy with my welfare iPhone. It's way better than my former 7 plus. And blows the Pixel 2 XL, which it replaced, out of the water. Out of the many smart phones I have owned over the last 9 years it is probably my second favorite of all time. The top spot goes to my old Droid X. Which in it's day was an incredible piece of tech.
The droid X was sweet! “Welfare phone” I just laughed so hard I snorted coffee up my nose. Thank God, no pics :)

To hear some of these phone snobs talk you would think that's what it is.

And believe it or not I still have my Droid X. It is in mint condition like it just came out of the box for the first time. Not one nick, scratch or ding. Still have the original box, extended battery and case/holster combo.

Off course XR is too big (you need mens purse to carry that crap and cannot use with one hand using two hands is no-no for me), even XS is too long; perfect phone would be the width of XS but shorter about 3-4 cm so can be used with one hand and off course no ugly notch; not leaving my SE until someone makes that size phone and I think that will come as the trend of making brick size phones (back to 1980s yeah) will stop soon

No. They didn’t. Those who are absolutely cash starved will buy XR. There are others who will stick to X/XS/2019 X and so on. In 2019 assuming these same sizes are available I’ll upgrade my 2017 X to a 2019 then X 5.8”. I have no choice. XR is way too big. The same goes for many people.

If they did it in a louder fashion it would become too obvious.

Rubbish. People will look at the XR and see very poor value in the XS no matter how much money they have. All you’ve tried to do is make the XR looks rubbish because you don’t like it.
Millionaires don’t get rich by buying poor value things. And they certainly don’t crave for the latest top end iPhones!

Yes I have a budget for tech as well. Last year I took a 8 for 1 yr instead of X, because I bought a SS series 3 AW and a 12.9" IPP. I do prefer "s" phones and the 8 was really the 7s. Sometimes people make choices and priorities like investing, property, cars, vacations and such. It not for lack of funds, and sometimes the individual does not see the value. I have a millionaire friend who buys everything Apple. He saw value in and bought an iMac Pro, but bought an aluminum AW, he did not find the case and screen materials to be worth the extra money. This year the Xs and a new Mac after the next event.

I cannot be the only one who wishes for a phone that can be used one-handed, and that does not cost $1000?

I agree, a $1000 for a phone is quite steep, but we still have iPhone 7 and 8, both of which handle iOS 12 just fine. I guess there might be some technical limitations to fitting all the post iPhone X tech into a smaller body and still having a decent battery life. Maybe next year...

cause the phone was piece of crap and you never took it out of the box? haha.

XR was released with the deliberate intention of up selling people to the X/XS.

Seems to be quite an expensive marketing plot! :p With iPhone X is no longer in the picture, people can still go with iPhone 7, 8, or simply wait for the next release.

I was considering the iPhone Xr. I can get $390 for my iPhone 7 from T-mobile, so I would pay $360. Perhaps worth it. With the iPhone Xs I would have to pay $610, which is a whole lot more. I got my iPhone 7 for $200 because of the T-mobile trade-in deal, which is why I even upgraded. Honestly, I don't want to pay a lot for a phone, but I don't think I would like a phone I cannot use one-handed. I think I will way until next year and see what Apple releases.

Do you know how many people turn 65 every day in this country? Baby boomers like actually being able to see the things written on their phone screens. I hope they make a small phone for people who want them but don’t think the bigger screen trend is going away anytime soon.

Really depends on your definition of similar. As mentioned elsewhere... The X and XS is actually ~23% larger and ~35% heavier than the iPhone 6. I consider that pretty significant and if it was the other way Apple would be shouting that from every rooftop!

The X/XS is only larger in height but not in width. Width is what counts regarding phone sizes...

maybe for you but for me extending its height just seems so unproportinal in order to make it appear as yeah we make larger screen size when in fast its just skinny stick which is uncomfortable to hold esepcially in pocket; whats next screen size of 8" with same width os current phones just longer in height; proportions are off, way off but whatever I'm not buying just because they are dishing them out

I also felt that the iPhone Xr felt bulky and big when I tried it in a store. However I am coming from a IPhone 6, so maybe I would get used to it..

That is not accurate. The X is taller, wider, thicker and heavier the the 6.

6 (138.1 x 67 x 6.9 mm) and 129g
X (143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm) and 174g

It's just getting worse and worse. Looks pretty ridiculous in your pocket, too.

I have to say that though the XR is a nice piece of tech, using it I find myself thinking: If only the SE had gotten a specbump and iPhone 8-camera... There is something about a phone you can wrap your hand around...

I’d probably recommend/buy future XRs if it were sized like a 6 (slightly smaller than XS), but in its current form it’s a giant that can’t be used.

Just walked my inferior XR over to the 7-11 to redeem some points & the guys at the counter were all over it. Even carefully removed the case so they could see the glorious red color. Everyone loved it! Said the phone looks slick & loved the gestures feature. But...what do we ghetto people know eh? LOL!

I am not trying to be negative. I have pretty large hands and I find I have to change my grip to reach the top of the screen to pull-down notifications or tap beneath the notch to scroll "all the way up". I am used to handling the 6S with one hand most of the time. The hardware is top notch on the XR, it looks fabulous - but there's no denying that you have to start holding the phone in one hand and using the other for input.

To be clear I don’t like the Max either.

Any phone larger than the XS is too big.

And ideally the XS needs to be smaller too.
