Looks like the XR will be a good choice for most, who want the cheaper iPhone!

I have a feeling that millions will actually miss the SE. But if you have one maybe the used sale price Will be strong....

I’m personally not a “small” iPhone fan, but tons of people are. Now the SE with the X is end of life...

Does anyone know about the cellular options with XS? I remember reading here that with the X, buying an ATT phone got you CDMA only, while getting a Verizon phone got your CDMA and whatever the other one is, which made the Verizon phone a better option if one wanted to travel out of the USA, even for someone like me who uses ATT. Would the same be true for XS? I noticed the XS has an option for a "no SIM card" option that's not tied to any carrier, so I'm not sure which phone at ATT user like me would want to get if I want to use the phone outside the USA sometimes.

I thought the Depth of field slider looked cool..

Probably one of the exciting features over just about anything else of the XS and MAX

(Dual SIM is always good too)

At 208 grams, the XS Max is the heaviest iPhone ever made.

You forgot to include the weight of your wallet after the purchase. The contents of your pockets have never felt lighter!

Why not put batt % number on bigger display

Simple. To prevent you from realising how fast it drains. They hope you sprinkle wireless chargers everywhere you go so you won't notice you'd otherwise have to charge the damned phone 2-3 times per work day if you use it at all.

yeah, and did I get this right that China gets real dual SIM, and the rest of the world get's a 1 physical SIM and one eSIM?, … WTF! Now we need to import it form China?
Yeah. My thought exactly. The problem is that apparently only Max version will have it. And its jut too big of the phone for me.

eSIM is better, China carriers just refuse to allow it. If all carriers supported eSIM Apple might be able to actually roll out their (now old) MVNO system allowing the software to manage the carrier activation on the fly based on location, tower congestion, signal strength, etc.

I'm actually curious if the SIM-Free version will be able to activate service just using the eSIM rather than needing to use a nano-SIM for a "Primary" service. The wording on the site seems to indicate it will but it's not clear.

The regular SIM is just better. I know in US is different situation but in Europe we just get a 2USD SIM and we ready to go. Every carrier, any country. Not to mention that it provide anonymity. And I dont wanna share my data with all carriers!

I will absolutely not be buying the new iPhone. I was so looking forward to Dual SIM. It was the one selling point that I would upgrade my iPhone 7 Plus for. However, eSIM is not available from any carrier in Australia or Italy, the two countries I travel between. If they had released the "China" version with two physical SIM cards in the Australian and Italian markets, then I would be pre-ordering immediately. I know I'm only one person, but I would be curious to see how many others are in the same position (ie. frequent travellers, business people with two numbers, etc.) who will not be buying it because eSIM is not available in their country.

I was puzzled about the 1st demo of the depth of field example.
A lady, with her face sideways laying on her arm.

Her arm & hand were at the same distance from the camera as was her face, but they were out of focus.
Basically the iPhone was making a mistake. Keeping her face in focus whilst mistakenly thinking her hand/arm were further away and blurring them.

i'm surprised they used this as an example as I noticed this almost instantly as they were doing the demo.

Did no one else spot this?

Only a super idiot would buy a phone with a notch on screen. Fake specs (edge to edge display). Glam aesthetics for glam people (shiny gold). No way. Steve Jobs would have fired them all. They are all seriously insulting his memory. Money destroyed them.

Yep, I am in exactly this situation. I have UK and US physical sims and was hoping for two physical trays like, um, every other one of my non-Apple colleagues have. How obtuse to make this version for the Chinese market only. I've been patiently waiting through several generations for Apple to add a feature that other manufacturers have had for years. They're such a weird company: progressive in a few ways, totally behind in so many others. But hey it's all about the money and as long as there are masses of people to suck up their toys they don't really need to actually LISTEN to any of them.

Guess I'm sticking with my trusty 6S and it's single sim for the foreseeable. That's fine. Rather keep a cool $1000 in my own pocket anyway if all it means is I keep switching sims. This little baby has kept my alternate sims safe for years already! :D

Numerous publications pointed out some potential killer features of the iPhone XS include the bokeh effect slider in Portrait mode

I think this is really a great feature. But I am very disappointed that this will not be available for the iPhone X. What is the reason for this except for marketing reasons? I think it would work technically also on the X. I would expect this for the not yet 1 year old flagship!

Apple's implantation of dual SIM is better than two physical SIM trays. I get where you are coming from but embedded SIM is just a better solution than physical SIM cards.

Tim Cook lost it way as well as Apple. It truly shows with the current prices, that the only thing he cares is about performing for the investors and charge outrageous prices rather than for users that actually purchase the Apple products. You can see all along the Apple line up with the iMac Pro, and the Macbook Pro both ridiculously expensive.

You know this is basically what happens every "S" year, right? Refinements and improvements on the previous year's features. This is how Apple has done it for a long time, with few exceptions.

I don't understand how so many people are surprised or upset about the lack of new features.
Come on you guys - you just don’t get it. Tim is such a modest guy with just a base salary. And as he said himself, he never asked for more.
Therefore, I am so proud that I can now more significantly contribute to that trillionaire phenomenon.
We should feel lucky - according to Tim - so that’s how I feel about it

That’s how much large form phones weigh now...

Note 9 - 7.09oz, 201g
Note 8 - 6.9oz, 195g

If weight is a concern, stick with the smaller devices...

S9 - 5.75oz, 163g
iPhone X - 6.14oz, 174g

If you get a chance, pick up a 6. It feels like a feather compared to the X. Even the 6S is much heavier than the 6.

The HEAVIEST iPhone is some how 'Shockingly' Light??

The iPhone XS Max is smaller than the iPhone Plus models, yet weighs a bunch more. It's more dense. Shouldn't it feel heavier??
After killing AirPower, AirPort and lamenting MacBook Air, they’re now just selling air

I’m guessing the performance upgrade will be significant with the A12... what 500 Billion calculations per second upgrading to 6 Trillion? That’s quite a boost...

Apparently, some guy at the Board got confused with specs & salary request sheets

Just curious... in the past, CDMA+GSM models were only available to Verizon customers at launch. Do all models (US) now support all bands or are there still radio differences?

There has still been two versions in the U.S. But the bands that each support are nearly identical, just a one or two different. But as of X, you did get a different version if you got Verizon/Sprint vs ATT/T-Mobile versions. But you could use both types on either network without seeing any performance hit in most cases.

Dear Steve121178, unfortunately I must disagree. I would appreciate to know your reasoning why "embedded SIM is just a better solution than physical SIM cards". How is it better when I (and many others) cannot use eSIM in either of the countries I travel most (Australia & Italy)? Here is the list of countries that support eSIM. Not many! As a result, this Dual SIM is useless for us.

That's an issue with your phone network or locations not supporting embedded SIM, not the technology itself. Network operators need to step up their game.

Living in Ireland I have been priced out of the new XS (the max is just too big for me). The XS starts at $999 in America yet it costs €1,179 in Ireland despite the Euro being stronger than the USD. It would only make sense to get someone heading to the states to pick one up for me. It's such a shame because I have picked up every flagship iPhone from the 3GS to the iPhone 7 and always made an excuse to justify the cost. I simply can't anymore and I refuse to enter contracts either.

I don't know either. But I think it is fair if people say they want something that you, me and they can't think of. Apple is the company with the $5 billion R&D budget for iPhone. They want Apple to amaze them. The bokah being a bit better on the occasional portrait picture is very tough to believe will be amazing.
To me that’s just a cop out answer for those who claim they’re bored or underwhelmed but can’t articulate why. And they always use the year previous phone as their comparison point when the majority of people aren’t getting a new phone year. Bottom line, smartphones are mature products now. There aren’t going to be major ‘wow’ features/updates every year. For me the advancements Apple is making in its silicon is the big story that doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

No it isn't. Its significantly inferior. A solution in search of a problem. The vast majority of providers do not support it, and I don't know any that allow you to use prepay rather than contracts? And what if you want to transfer your sim to another phone temporarily?

The ONLY reason to have an eSIM on a phone is to free up space, and that argument is blown away by the fact that a real dual SIM version exists for China.

I agree on the fact that this it the least appealing S revision so far.
Apple made a really clever decision last year by releasing only the 5.8 version, so this time many X users will jump to the Xs Max.
And dual sim can be really great for some people, so I can see somebody replacing its X only to get the dual sim.
But if you don't need the dual SIM I see very little reasons to go from X to Xs. A12 is great, but A11 is good enough and iOS 12 improves portrait shots even for the X. The display is slightly better, so are the speakers but I don't find any compelling reasons to upgrade from a X.
I'm an 8+ owner and I'm tempted both by the Xr and the Xs, I decided the plus size is not really for me and even if the article states that you have a better grip I don't feel like buying a Plus size phone again, at least not this year at that price.
In my country we have €300 between the Xr and Xs and I'm finding it hard to justify such a huge difference. I know the OLED is better and the pixel density is higher, but the SoC is exactly the same so I don't know if the display alone and the second camera are worth that price, we're talking $350. Xs is slightly smaller and since I got tired of the Plus the smallest model may feel even better, but I really don't know what to do.
