I ordered an iPhone XS Max 256GB Space Grey this morning at 10:30am and it'll be delivered September 21...
What exactly is the delay?

Ditto.

I was getting super frustrated because for me the Verizon web store kept timing out and it took me an hour to complete my preorder. I am still getting the same phone you're getting, also on launch day. I could have had two more hours of sleep :(

What will be interesting is how quickly the Xr shipping times slip. Last year the expensive phone shipped later. This year it is the cheaper one. I’m guessing a lot of 7/7 Plus owners are waiting for the Xr.

Apple began accepting pre-orders for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 models at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time, and a half hour later, shipping estimates have slipped for many iPhone XS Max and Apple Watch Series 4 models in the United States. At launch, all devices listed delivery estimates of Friday, September 21, but now estimates have largely slipped to October.

iPhone XS Max models in all colors and all capacities from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are now listing delivery dates ranging from September 28 to October 12, but in some areas, in-store pickup on launch day remains an option.

iphonexsmaxshippingestimates-800x317.jpg

For the SIM-free iPhone XS Max models, which must be purchased in full up front and are not eligible for the iPhone Upgrade Program, most continue to list September 21 delivery dates. Shipping estimates for the iPhone XS have not slipped and supplies of that device appear to be plentiful.

Almost all stainless steel Apple Watch Series 4 models are now listing shipping dates of October 5 to October 12 with the exception of some 40mm models, and supplies of aluminum Apple Watch Series 4 models available for launch day delivery are also beginning to wane.

Multiple Cellular + GPS models are still available, but the less expensive GPS-only models are almost all listing October shipping dates.

Shipping estimates for the Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone XS Max are likely to continue to slip as additional orders are placed. Those who were not able to place an order early will not be able to get launch day delivery through an online shipment, but Apple retail stores are likely to have stock available for walk-in purchases.

The first pre-orders for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 will be delivered on Friday, September 21, the official launch date for the devices.

You can still get an iPhone xs max 64gb for a Friday delivery in Canada

This Series 4 Apple watch is going to be a company-changer, sorta like the iPhone 4.

Maybe. But probably for only the first few that buy it.

Sweet. Ordered at 12:03. Delivery next Friday on 2 Series 4 watches. My series 1 has been super but the series 4 is an offer I can't refuse. One for the wife too. Really an awesome product with the new features.
How do you know is you don't have it yet?
[doublepost=1536972524][/doublepost]
We're all shaking in our boots at the possibility you might abandon ship.

He won't be back. The competition ain't so that bad. Trust me.

Dude - I sympathize,

I unfortunately just had an "Apple Specialist" cancel my order!

My orders somehow did not link up to my Apple account. I was wondering why.

I had the order conformation number (and I should have left it at that)

I clicked the order number and it said "The Signed In Account Does Not Have Access to This Order"

Huh?

So I called Apple Canada

"Courtney" reviewed my order number and looked it up - meanwhile I am on the screen too and after a few minutes I see that I can "Link" the order to my account.... I do that. She reviews the details of the order:

So that's on your visa ending in 6226? And I said "NO!" I have no Visa ending with those 4 digits.

My visa for Apple Pay is XXXX I say

So we go back and forth discussing and I look at it, and I am puzzled also!

What's up?

"DEVICE ACCOUNT NUMBER ....6226"

Courtney insists that this is the last 4 digits of my Visa - and I'm puzzled. I believe it too!

No - it's not my Visa card!

on Hold for 30 minutes.....

She comes back and says - "you can order again - and I can cancel your order:

I say Noooooo!

Another hold for 10 minutes

"I cancelled your order"

"But I told you not to do that - can I talk to a manager?"

Hold for another hour and then she hangs up on me!

I call again - and the next guy is better - but still doesn't know what the Device Account Number is for an Apple Pay. He says he will pass me over to "Rhonda" - but then the line is dropped again!

3rd time is the charm. They know what the DAN number is. They apologize, and will see what they can do - They do see it as Apple's fault. As do I

What a hassle

What happened? I accidentally checked out as a "guest" - paid with Apple Pay. Got confirmation Emails, but today when I clicked the order numbers, they were not linked to my Apple ID. That started me thinking something was wrong. Then the Apple person did not realize that Apple Pay "DAN" is NOT the last 4 digits of the customer Visa card! AND she stupidly cancelled my order.

Memorable experience - we shall see what goodies I receive and when....

These things will be available for in Apple store walk ins first day imo. They made a lot according to reports.

Anyone looking for a watch, try Wal Mart. My apple order showed 10/5-12, I ordered through Wal Mart that said I'll have it by Monday, I'm hoping sooner!

Yeah, I figured out the punchline well before it played out there. Hope it works out.

All of the models of all phones are available at at least half a dozen Apple stores near me for pickup on launch day. Shipping estimate shows 1-2 weeks.

Wish this was a year I was upgrading lol. I don't know that I've ever had it this easy.

People keep parroting this year after year, even after Apple announces record sales. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As a hardware company, Apple has zero incentive to limit sales, and they certainly don't need to resort to this in order to generate hype.

Yes there are plenty of incentives to do this. It's quite obvious.

I mean, Apple nor anyone else will know the digits of your real credit card if you’re paying via Apple Pay - they will only know the DAN. Not sure why you argued with them about it in the first place since you seem to know what the DAN is.

No I didn't know until I started reading carefully and googled up the Device A________ Number - whatever it is called.

I was worried, because she said - "the last 4 digits if your Visa are 6226" and I was puzzled and concerned.

I never realized until the very end of the whole thing that I probably ordered wthout logging in to my account. and that was the real thing that worried me in the first place - I couldn't figure out why the order couldn't be found in "My Orders"

The apple specialist was lacking knowledge and jumped the gun to cancel my order like that - particularly since I was practically begging her not to! Horrible experience. All these years of playing the game of getting the latest iPhone etc as soon as possible, and this time it got messed up. First world problems.

The lesson that was worth sharing with the Apple Manager was:

1. Apple Specialists should be taught how Apple Pay works
2. They should know that the 4 digit "DAN" is NOT the last 4 digits of customers Visa card!
3. The idea of showing a 4-digit "DAN" number is ludicrous - it is NOT surprising that the apple specialist AND I were both fooled into mistaking the 4 digits for the last 4 digits of a Visa because MUCH of the world operates that way with credit card numbers. Why not make the DAN a 5 digit number? That would draw attention and cause me to question.
4 People are mostly dumb - including myself. We are easily fooled into assuming we think we know something. I assumed that the 4 digits would be the Visa last 4 digits. Stupid! Worse - Apple's service person was even more clueless.

UPDATE: I escalated to a manager and they agreed it was a mistake for the rep to have cancelled my order like that - So they are doing there best to improve shipping on my replacement order! Thanks Apple!

Well if you consider this year in September they only sell the most expensive models even if they didn't have much inventory they should have plenty of models available in store. I can still order an Xs and pick it up on day one after a full day after preorder started.

I do love in Seattle so I have several 3-4 stores within 30 minutes so I’m spoiled for options. There have been too many preorder years where my phone was a month out yet local stores had them day one.

Random question, since I’ve never preordered through Apple or the Apple Store App (I’ve always gone through my carrier store because of crashing websites and apps). When do they charge your card? I ordered an hour ago and my bank doesn’t show any charges.

When it ships.

Last year my wife replaced her iPhone 5 with an X. I was out of town, and she decided to try and go to the only Apple store in Omaha on release day, which if I remember correctly was November 3rd. Expecting a line, she got there at 6:00 AM to find that she was only the 3rd person there. She had no problem getting a phone on release day.

Just download Focos from the App Store and you can literally do the same thing today on the existing dual-camera iPhones.
I actually have Focos and I'm looking to see what that company will be able to do with the new hardware. What Apple does with the XS, Focus has to take a second to render. I would imagine Focos on the XS will be even better.

I posted this in a different thread too for more opinions.

Original post:
Let’s see if someone can give me some advise.

I’m on the iPhone X on the IUP. My debate is should I say screw it and get the iPhone Xs Max ($4 more / month - not too too bad), or should I pay the x off, next year sell it and use that money towards the iPhone “whatever it will be called”?

Please don’t make this negative, if I bought this thing out right I would wait for the next version, I’m only considering because I’m on the IUP.

Not sure anyone can answer that but you. You already have 95% of the Xs phone with your iPhone X. Are you irritated by delays in apps or other processes? Do you want the bigger screen Xs Max?

The new iPhones have faster/better processors and coprocessors than yours, but thats been true pretty much every year. It's not like your phone is going to be terribly slow just because IOS 12 is released, but yes, the new phones will be faster. The camera is better, but once again, it'll be better again next year.

I'm leaving money out of it, as it seems that is not a real factor in your decision. Is there something- memory, speed, screen size- that you want? Next year will probably be a much more significant upgrade, both because this was an 's' year and most times those are just incremental improvements, and because Apple said early this year that they were concentrating on reliability and stability instead of new features. But then again, nothing is guaranteed. Next year may not see anything earth shattering either.

If nothing excites you about this year's phone, I would say hold off. But that's me, and I'm not in the IUP program and I don't have an iPhone X. Since money isn't the issue for you then you need to decide if you just want to have this years phone or not.

You know, fair enough. My biggest thing is the larger screen. I do like the idea of having a phone “paid off” next year, but that is the only thing holding me back as of now. I guess I could give it a couple of days and see how I feel at that point.

Thanks for the input!

ordered a couple of 256 GB XS. cant wait! we are upgrading after four long years!
[doublepost=1536913615][/doublepost]
eh? stores already have it?!
No. They can’t possibly. They launch in store on 9-21
[doublepost=1537114807][/doublepost]
I got the iPhone SE free no carrier contract to sign. Great phone, I will use it as a back-up, as I ordered a Xs 64GB in GLD. 256GB is too much storage for me.
I wanted the 64 gb Max, but I think I’m paying an extra $6 a month for the 256 model. I’d rather have more than worry about filling up.
