Perfect example of negative spin. One commenter was surprised at quickness of the slips "at those prices" and you think the slips are not fast enough "at those prices". It's all about mindset. You think the prices are too high so you want to confirm that by building a case that pre-order delivery dates aren't slipping fast enough. Other do the same in reverse. They also think the prices are too high so they invent another theory to explain why pre-order delivery dates are slipping, namely the tired old "Apple is intentionally limiting supplies to make it look like demand is high."

My own take is that it is a combination of the price and the relative lack of must-have features that weren't highlighted that convinced people that the phones that they have is still good enough and don't need to upgrade right on day one. Just based on this forum and the pre-order delivery dates not falling fast enough makes me think that a majority of people who are upgrading at this time are the die hard Apple enthusiasts and maybe a handful of people upgrading from iPhone 6 or earlier phones.

No hard facts, just my own thoughts, take it for what you will.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. There just isn’t that much time from the yearly upgrade to be able to afford a couple of months stockpiling items. And what if a problem is discovered and Apple already has hundreds of thousands of phones sitting in warehouses that now need to be fixed?

Yep. Side point, an iPhone recall is probably the one thing that sometimes keeps Tim Cook up at night. It would be a multi-billion dollar hit if Apple ever had to do that. It would make the Samsung Note battery fiasco look like small potatoes. And stockpiling too many phones prior to the real test (which is putting several million in customer hands) is another reason to not stockpile too much and just have some pain for customers not getting the phone they want as soon as they want.

Though (I think) I want a bigger screen, there is no reason to upgrade from an X for me. I contemplated the X max, but eh. I upgrade every year, but this is a snoozer. No doubt when I see it in person I'll want it, but it literally does nothing my X does not.

Apple began accepting pre-orders for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 models at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time, and a half hour later, shipping estimates have slipped for many iPhone XS Max and Apple Watch Series 4 models in the United States. At launch, all devices listed delivery estimates of Friday, September 21, but now estimates have largely slipped to October.

iPhone XS Max models in all colors and all capacities from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are now listing delivery dates ranging from September 28 to October 12, but in some areas, in-store pickup on launch day remains an option.

For the SIM-free iPhone XS Max models, which must be purchased in full up front and are not eligible for the iPhone Upgrade Program, most continue to list September 21 delivery dates. Shipping estimates for the iPhone XS have not slipped and supplies of that device appear to be plentiful.

Almost all stainless steel Apple Watch Series 4 models are now listing shipping dates of October 5 to October 12 with the exception of some 40mm models, and supplies of aluminum Apple Watch Series 4 models available for launch day delivery are also beginning to wane.

Multiple Cellular + GPS models are still available, but the less expensive GPS-only models are almost all listing October shipping dates.

Shipping estimates for the Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone XS Max are likely to continue to slip as additional orders are placed. Those who were not able to place an order early will not be able to get launch day delivery through an online shipment, but Apple retail stores are likely to have stock available for walk-in purchases.

The first pre-orders for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 will be delivered on Friday, September 21, the official launch date for the devices.

Anyone remember how long it took the iPhone X date to start slipping last year? I was thinking 8 minutes in?

I recall them slipping early but then people were getting notified that their shipping times were approving. I remember because it happened to me too; I was initially marked to receive mines 2 weeks after Nov. 3 but then got the update it was coming on launch day. This led people to believe the iPhone X was not as popular as expected...

I actually noticed early like 10 minutes in just around 3:11EST for 512GB XS Max Space Grey at my location. It took me 15 minutes to get my order through to servers and had 1-2 week’s shipment. Most stores pickup was already unavailable in NYC north metro location by 3:15 NYC time.

I got my Watch from T-Mobile 10 seconds after midnight, probably one of the first orders, and the shipping estimate they gave was "9/21/2018-10/9/2018". Hopefully I get it on or around launch day. Last time I order something from T-Mobile though, that's for sure.

I would like to know if is possible unlock the XS/XS Max, by FACE ID, with the device in landscape mode?

I Have the 8 Plus and that is very convenient when I use it in my car. One touch (on TOUCH ID) and that’s all.

Regards

Pretty sure that the answer is no. If it was possible, Apple would've highlighted it.

Just ordered a Series 4 LTE variant this morning in a T-Mobile store (West Coast time) and it is shipping next week. No issues so far... at least with T-Mobile buyers.

Unsure, as I’m not one of the tech bloggers that had hands on w/ these phones, but... now that FaceID supports a 2nd face profile, I’d suggest registering one of your face portrait & one of your face landscape.

I begrudgingly upgraded to the Xs Max and the only reason was because I'd already promised someone my current phone and the Series 4 watch is such a fantastic device, but it needs an iPhone.

This is however the first time I'm upgrading, while knowing I will NOT upgrade to the latest model next year. I'm so irritated by Apple's greed that I will seriously consider abandoning the eco-system. I'm eagerly awaiting the Pixel 3XL launch on October 9 to see if the rumoured Google watch will be announced as well. I strongly doubt that it will be anywhere as good as the Series 4 Apple Watch, but if it's kinda ok, I might return the iPhone Xs Max and Apple Watch Series 4 and jump to Google this year rather than in a year or two.

We're all shaking in our boots at the possibility you might abandon ship.

So I ordered the Silver XS Max 256GB from ATT directly today as 1230PM EST and have a delivery date of the 21st. It looked like all the phones showed that date as well.

I would like to point out that SE stock is available until sold out at Best Buy and other retailers. Simply not available from Apple directly.

Do they do 0% financing for 24 months like Apple did though?

Seriously asking because I broke mine SE two weeks ago and it needs to be replaced. I was waiting for 9-12 to get a red iPhone 8 Plus when the price went down but Apple took away the 0% financing for that model and the Product Red color.

I ordered an iPhone XS Max 256GB Space Grey this morning at 10:30am and it'll be delivered September 21...
What exactly is the delay?

Ditto.

There are always lots of viewpoints after the keynote but I have to say that this keynote was the worst! It's almost like they could not believe themselves that they were following the same script once again this year. Phil Schiller could not even fake his lack of enthusiasm. I wouldn't be surprised if news broke at some point that they were given some sort of bad news before taking the stage...

I have stood in line or pre-ordered every new iphone since 2007, this was the first time I let it go by. However, if I was after the Xs Max, I would be excited about pre-ordering but I love the smaller phone and bigger screen of the X.

I was excited about the Apple Watch and pre ordered my wife and I one for christmas just incase the demand made them to hard to get. I skipped series 3 and I'm excited for series 4.

For me, one difference is in the Lytro(and L16)-like manipulation of the depth of field. I’m sure the two lenses of the iPhone Xs isn’t capable of capturing at the same level of quality as those, but I’m still interested in playing with it.
