They simply charge what they know the market will bear.

It's similar with concert tickets and touts, except they are truly limited in supply.

We have only ourselves to blame.

Sure. I know it’s what the market bears, doesn’t change my opinion about it. Of course they aren’t the only ones charging a lot of money, I was simply relaying how times have changed...

I was just making a factual statement, wasn't aiming it specifically at your good self.

I agree with what you wrote. Personally for me it's at a point on the train when I get off. I absolutely love my tech but when my 128GB Pixel cost me £550 and still takes some of the best photos in the business, whilst giving me free photo cloud storage and Android (which I find infinitely less frustrating to use than iOS), I truly wonder what people see in these phones that makes them happy to pay nearly three times the price, inc. the iPhone 6s I also use.

Each to their own obviously, but there's simply no way I'll myself be dropping £1k+ on a device that is so fragile and offers so little extra over what I already have. And I mean that for any manufacturer.

Looks like I'm skipping this year. Apple is charging way to much for larger capacity. Samsung only charges $70 to go from 256 to 512GB. That's retail. You know Apple is paying way less than that.

And don't their's come with a card slot so one can use an industry-standard card that seems forever getting larger while dramatically getting cheaper at the same time?

But why would we Apple people want commodity storage upgrades at dirt cheap prices? AND the flexibility to expand onboard storage on the fly on down the road?

No harm done. I could have worded it better, but definitely agreed.

But crossing that $1k barrier ($1099) as the starting level & with the 1st storage upgrade taking us to an eye watering $1250 here in the U.S. - seems too high from a psychological "feel" point. I doubt others will see it that way and will buy them in loads.

You're mistaken. Volume on the X was low - Apple already passed the breaking point for many customers. I expect XS and XS Max combined will come in lower than the X last year. The X was absurd, and Apple has outdone themselves on the absurdity.

im an apple fan since the 1st smartphone released ive never had any samsung or any kind of android.. iphone xs price is getting ridiculous & ever i get to choose ill go for iphone xr.. only rich or crazy people can afford $2000 or more just for the iphone xs max..whats tim cook thinking? if steve jobs is alive he’ll give him slap in the face.

$1499.00 + $299.00 with the AppleCare and Tax..........We are getting close to the 2k mark!!!!!!!!!!

latest

The premium we pay on memory is getting old now....

Vote with your wallet. Ranting on a forum won't lead to lower prices on iPhones.

$1,500?!?!?!?

WUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Right. So a phone costs more than most people’s mortgage payment. Okay.

The original Macintosh sold for about 10 mortgage payments, and this is about a thousand times more powerful.

I see Apple has learned nothing, so I will help them understand two years in a row by NOT getting the latest iPhone.

The X[R] is a slap in the face!!!

That will teach them.

My wife always gets the latest iphone as part of her renewal contract with her supplier, which is due in a few months, and her company usually go for the top end model. She’s just said it’s getting ridiculous now, and will probably review their upgrade policies with so many staff. Her decision, but I always get her caste off when this happens. Now I’ll NEVER have a XS max, and I was happy to wait 12 months for it!! Up yours Apple!

Wait until the iPhone XXX—monthly payment of $200/month...you could lease a Honda Civic for less.

Really disappointed to see Apple not discount the phones that really has one big hardware upgrade, a minor battery upgrade (only 30/1.5 hours more, please) and the majority software upgrades. Maybe I’m more disappointed because Kuo leaked the costs of building the phones.

Even after the disappointments, I ordered the max. I know, I’m a fanboy. But I blame this ridiculous upgrade program. Sigh...I miss the 2 year contract days.

Apple has no shame...

Because phones are a constitutional right and should be dolled out free of charge to whoever wants one?

Apple is a for-profit business. What they charge is based on how many they can produce and how many people will buy at that price.

If either supply goes down or demand goes up, then the price goes up. This is basic economics that every high school kid knows.

thought I saw $1450 when I favorited mine.

edit: just double checked, $1449.00 according to my app.

edit 2: I see it's corrected now but since my comment looks like I'm making a fuss over $1 it was originally stated as $1499 in the article headline :p

Essentially, we’re buying a MacBook every year lol

I think the economy has moved past the lower income classes. This is the new normal. (Seen Disneyland ticket prices lately? Yikes.)

Not only the most expensive iPhone ever, but the most EXPENSIVE MASS MARKET SMARTPHONE EVER! Besides the boutique garbage, there has never been a more expensive smartphone.

Have to say I was prepared for a $100 price drop on the Xs and the Maxi Xs to start at $999.

But crossing that $1k barrier ($1099) as the starting level & with the 1st storage upgrade taking us to an eye watering $1250 here in the U.S. - seems too high from a psychological "feel" point. I doubt others will see it that way and will buy them in loads. I noticed both Xs's are available unlocked, not tied to carrier in the U.S.. (Xr isn't showing that way although its a long ways off)

But, it makes me look at the Xr and say for $350 less I can live with its slight downgrades (no zoom camera, .4 inch less of display) and upgrades - much better battery life (which I prize) and better gaming performance having the same CPU / GPU pushing many fewer pixels around. JMHO...

I was hoping the same exact thing. I was excited during the keynote but when Cook revealed the Xr price, my heart dropped, and then he revealed the Xs and Xs Max price, I went into full “**** ***” mode. It made me reevaluate which phone to get, even got me thinking “should I just wait for the next redesigned iPhone next year?” A few of my friends have already said it wasn’t worth it, so they’re holding out for the redesign. But that gold
