I guess I just don’t get it. We are seeing significant speed increase again and also getting 4 to 5 additional hours of battery life. That’s a really impressive upgrade and Apple silicon doesn’t really get enough credit from year to year. This year feels much bigger to me than X to Xs.

I forgot about the battery. It's actually not significant to me, but for a lot of people it would be a very big deal.

But the speed - nothing I do with the phone and nothing anyone in my extended family does with their phones even remotely pushes their phones (which include a couple of iPhone 8 phones). If you game with your phone, it might be different. But most of us mortals haven't noticed the speed upgrades in years.

ETA: the new display may actually be a significant, maybe even groundbreaking, improvement.

I wouldn’t want the new phone it was free, I find it absolutely hideous.

I’m disappointed because the reception on my XS Max isn’t the greatest and I was really looking to upgrade but definitely not to that.

lol adding a 3rd camera lens made the phone hideous?

get a grip with the exception of the camera module it looks every bit as good as the Xs Max.

So, you'd rather stay with the XS Max that gets crappy reception, than getting this phone that's not as aesthetically pleasing that'll get you way better reception?

XS Max now. First year since 3G I will not be getting a new phone. Have done it every year. Not worth it. Cost far exceeds features/design. Pass.

My only concern with downsizing is shorter battery life. But apparently the new phones get around 4 hours more battery life, so would that put the new smaller size on par with last year's Max in terms of battery life?

The only difference between the Pro & Max is an hour. So I guess if a bigger screen isn't all that important to you, then the smaller one would do just fine.
[doublepost=1568166682][/doublepost]So, I guess screen protectors that fit the XS Max will fit the Pro Max, right?

I do like my XS Mad and I thought that I would definitely upgrade to the Pro Max, but now after seeing that it is is a bit bigger and HEAVIER than the XS max, I am now starting to question whether I should go to the Pro.

I like the screen real estate of the Plus/Max, but when I went from a 8+ to a X, I actually liked having a smaller phone...

decisions decisions....

I think the comparison of one hour is not that the pro max can last 1 hour more than the pro. The comprison they did was

iphone pro max was 5 hours more than the xs max and the pro is 4 hours more than the xs. Bear in mind, there is a big difference in battery life with xs max and xs.

Skipping I like my max.

I hope next year they can thin out the none pro model bezel. I’m liking the non pro.

how much more battery life did the max have over the Xs?

Xs max, considering getting the 11. I was hoping for a lighter and thinner device but they fattened the pro models up pretty good so I’m unlikely to get the max pro. It’s either the 11 or the 5.8 inch pro. Or maybe just stay with the Xs max. So basically not the max pro.

I will be downsizing from the Xs Max to the 11 Pro 5.8” in Midnight Green. I use my iPad Mini 5 more than I use my phone, except at work, where I take a lot of photos on a daily basis. I don’t really need the larger phone size.

Using the IUP program the past few years I'm going to move from my 512GB XS Max to the 11 Pro Max, using camera daily so it's worthwhile to me.

I don't want to upgrade as I'm sick of apples continued price gouging.

I have the max on the upgrade program though and would really like the smaller model again.

I'd swap it for an XS tomorrow but rolling the upgrade dice may be my best option. Damn them!

I totally agree.

I have an X and now I’m going for the pro max! My first plus size phone! Excited!

With the administration's trade war and tariffs, in real dollar terms Apple has lowered prices, not raised them.

Speaking about improvements, Ars wrote this about the new Pro display, which seems like a genuine leap forward:

Apple says this is an improved OLED display in a number of ways, maybe the most important being that it can now reach a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. That’s pretty much unheard of in mobile devices, and it puts this phone in the same ballpark as the very best, brightest consumer HDR TVs. This is going to be a very good phone to watch movies or play games on, and the screen looked spectacular in person.

As someone who travels a lot for work, and takes side personal trips to neighboring cities or towns during downtime on work trips, this right here is actually orgasmic.

The idea of listening to music on the way to the airport and while walking through the airport, watching Netflix while waiting for your flight, watching netflix while on the flight, watching netflix while waiting for your connecting flight....all while not having to fight others for outlets....this alone is worth the upgrade for me.

I have not decided it I am going to upgrade from my XS Max yet? I will stay with the bigger phone though if I do.... I would upgrade in a heartbeat if they included pencil support

This is exactly why im going from the XS to the Pro Max. I travel a bit, so I always use local data sims for faster internet. I also have a separate work phone *iPhone 7* So, I will start using the dual-sim capability so I can use both my personal/work sims on the Pro Max. I hate having to carry two separate devices. This huge battery increase and the camera improvements are very welcomed.

Do you really feel like the old updates from say 5s to 6 or 6s to 7 were better than from Xs to 11 pro?

I sometimes wonder if it’s more the people changing than the market.

In short...yes. I was most excited for the iPhone 4 back in the day. When you essentially have the same phone design since 2014 it eventually gets a bit boring...
