I'm really enjoying these full meltdown comments. I don't always trust news that exaggerates what's happening.

You don't need to trust anyone, you can do the math yourself. The Trump admin has posted exactly how much the tariffs will be.

I did it yesterday on here. Here you go...it's fairly simple:

Rough math, since since the 16 Pro has a 46% profit margin, that means it costs ~$540 to Apple. China tariffs are now at 54%, so 540*1.54=831.6, and 831-540=$291

If everything is passed onto consumers, the base Pro will now be $292 higher, but lets round up for Apple's sake, and make $1300 for the base Pro model iPhone.

Hey, man! As long as I can get my Apple
Products cheap, I don’t care who makes them! Even if they’re 12 or working extreme hours in miserable conditions!

That’s a lot of people on this forum it seems, sadly. They love reaping the benefits of ‘affordable’ devices but care next to nothing on how they get those ‘affordable’ devices.
Yep. Sounds very similar to what people said about their cotton back in the 1850s.

Not sure if it was mentioned anywhere, if so please correct me. But, shouldn't the tariffs affect the OEM costs/prices and NOT the MSRP prices? So if making an iPhone costs $200, but Apple Sells it for $800. Then the 50% or so tariff should affect the $200 price. So it's $300 now. And not the $800 price, turning it into $1200.

And I'm not defending this policy at all. But, it's even more indefensible for ANYONE to have to pay that much more for any product. It's not like we are all given a 50% raise to compensate for it. OR EVER WILL BE!!

Now economists know what scientist felt like when Donald said to inject disinfectants.
Categorically different. He was deeply wrong and stupid as hell for the disinfectant comment. However, he is spot on and absolutely right for the tariffs.

Trump is proof that you can be incredibly stupid and incredibly right at different times on different things…much like most people in fact.

That's correct. The tariffs are on the declared value at customs. The retail prices are set after that.

Apple has yet to publicly comment on the tariffs, so it is unclear if the company will actually raise prices, or if it will get creative and find alternative ways to offset the impact.
Here's a creative way to offset the impact of the tariff: Don't contribute to the re-election campaigns of the bastards responsible for the tariffs.😇😇 Get a different batch of politicians in office.🥳
Wondering what the cost would be if the opposite occurs and China removes all their tariffs? Sub $800 iPhone Pro Max?
How would Chinese tariff affect phones made in China and exported to the US? Tariffs are taxes on goods that's imported into a country, not exported from a country.

Even if there is zero tariffs on the iPhone, the prices won't drop. Apple will always price the iPhone what the market will bear. Even if it only cost them $1 to make an iPhone, it will still sell at $1000 because that's what people are willing to pay.

Maybe rather then spending the $2300 on something you probably don’t need, might be a better idea to invest in the market while things are on sale….

Have you identified when the bottom is?
Are you sure it's going back up?

Mass tariffs are something rarely done in history, because it doesn't work for anything but economic destruction.

In the coming market, you best just save your money.

We (wife and I, and kids by extension) will not be buying or upgrading ANY tech (phones included), cars, or appliances unnecessarily for the foreseeable future...more than likely, the next four years.

I know you’re trying to be smart but egg prices have actually dropped $2/dozen

They are still $6-8/dozen (down for $8-1) for the store brand eggs here at Meijer or Kroger. I looked yesterday. We have chickens and are selling our eggs at $4/dozen.

I’m not trying to time the market but sure seems down to me. Historically, the market always goes back up. Might take awhile, but I have faith in the U.S.

Folks, this is not that crazy..
The iPhone 16 Pro Max currently costs "up to $1599"

Throw 40%-ish tariffs on that and you're there... and that's without any of the normal Apple price hikes that come along from time to time.

Check out the 16 Pro Max prices in Canada below. This is in part due to the USD-CAD exchange rate but also due to higher taxes there. Trump just turned us into Canada's 11th province!

It's called "trying to catch a falling knife"

Best of luck to you on timing the bottom and/or "time to buy"
Let me be clearer, I’m not trying to time the market. If you can’t see that stock prices are down, I don’t know what to tell you…moreover, my point was, in a down economy there’s probably better things one can be doing than buying unnecessary tech products.

I see ... Let me be clearer..

Saying they are "down" implies the range, particularly the high end, in the future is known

You said the following

Saying "invest while on sale".
That sure sounds like trying to time the market, at least at some point.

How will you know "when to buy"?

Are you sure we are going back to sky high market numbers, that were largely seen as over pumped for years now?
Do you know the time horizon if so?

There is a lot of unknown needed context in situations like this.
