Phones have also become heavier. Especially since we are doing this dumb trend of glass on the back for wireless charging, when Apple can’t even get its **** together to release their own wireless charger. Then I put a slim case on (with all that glass, it’s necessary for me) and wireless charging isn’t an option.

Wireless charging works just fine with a case on.

Unless your buying a metal case your phone should easily charge with one on

Yeah, because I don’t know about everyone else, but when I hold my iPhone I think to myself “this is too damn bulky”

/s

You may have been being sarcastic, but this is exactly my thought coming from the iPhone 7 to the XS, even after two months. The phone is too thick, wide, tall and HEAVY. It’s just not comfortable to hold in one hand.

People are buying less of the XS, they're buying XR less than Apple's internal predictions. They're not going to suddenly start buying them due to a marginal thickness decrease.

The problem isn't the thickness, it's the general volume – put out an SE 2 and see what happens.

Get rid of that protruding camera lens and add more battery thickness. It will still be 7.7mm or whatever, but actually better in every way. Like, no actual downsides.

I don't understand people's desire to get rid of the camera bump. 95% of people use a case anyway which completely negates it. I was on team caseless with my 3g, 4, and 5, but since my 6+ and now X I'm case all the way. 1) it makes it way easier to hold and 2) on devices that cost ~$1,000 covered in glass front AND back... it just seems foolish not to cover it anymore.

But yeah I agree there is no need to make any thinner. ~8mm is the sweet spot for the balance of thinness and battery life. And then keep the camera bump to allow the best possible lens.

While it is a common belief that iPhones have become thinner and thinner over the years, when Apple could be keeping them the same size and including larger and longer-lasting batteries, the opposite is true in reality.

2018-iphone-trio.jpg

As mentioned on Reddit, iPhones have gradually become thicker since 2014, capped off by the iPhone XR, the thickest model since the iPhone 4s in 2011:iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus: 6.9mm and 7.1mm
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus: 7.1mm and 7.3mm
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: 7.1mm and 7.3mm
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus: 7.3mm and 7.5mm
iPhone X: 7.7mm
iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max: 7.7mm
iPhone XR: 8.3mmThe trend may come to an end next year, however, as Korean website ETNews [Translated] reports that 2019 iPhones could be thinner and lighter due to Apple adopting Samsung-designed OLED display tech called Y-OCTA, which integrates the typically-separate touch-screen layer into the display panel itself.

There's a good chance the reduction in thickness could be negligible, however, as the display panel is already a very thin component. The bigger advantage for Apple may be reduced costs, as the report claims that the Y-OCTA displays are less expensive to manufacture, lowering the iPhone's bill of materials.

Last week, tech analyst Anne Lee of Japanese research firm Nomura said 2019 iPhones will "likely have the same form factors" as the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, including body size and displays. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects iPhone screen sizes to remain 5.8-inches, 6.1-inches, and 6.5-inches in 2019.

Beyond that, rumors suggest at least one 2019 iPhone will have a triple-lens rear-facing camera, while all three new models are expected to feature enhanced Face ID. And in June, the notorious DigiTimes made the bold prediction that 2019 iPhones will feature USB-C like the 2018 iPad Pro.

Kind of dumb thought, but people had a fit for “bendgate”. Thin is great, but if people complain about their phone bending with pressure...what’s the minor difference worth?

This so called article is a straight rip off of a Reddit post from a few hours ago, Jesus!

I won't buy another iPhone ever unless it has USB-C, and the price drops. Lightning is archaic and anti-consumer, and Apple's synthetic pricing is out of hand.

Why does the XR always look like a cheap knockoff of the XS when they are pictured together? No wonder they already have such deep discounts advertised on Apple's homepage for it. Most Apple enthusiasts have plenty of disposable income and paying $1000+ for the best isn't a big deal. Poorer people who still want an iPhone will go for a much cheaper 7 or 8. The XR is a marketing mistake and making it thinner isn't going to help.

this is hmm.. being ignorant at best. How much do you think most "apple enthusiasts" make?

The phones have glass backs now, they won't bend like the iPhone 6
Honestly despite all the complaints from people online, I'd love if they made the phones a bit thinner and lighter again. They are getting way too bulky now. A good compromise was the 6s and 7.

No doubt
That explains why the Xr felt like the most comfortable iPhone I've held in years.
Whenever I take the leather cover off of my 7+ I think: why is this so thin? I’d love it if it were 1mm thicker with the increased battery capacity to go with it. Yes it would also be heavier but not a lot heavier.

I'm not so sure about that. I like to pop into the Apple store regularly and have seen the best part of ten people buying an XS, an XS Max or the XR. Every one of them was fairly young (<30) and had ID documents, etc. to acquire them on some sort of credit.

girlfriend has been doing the same thing.
Lol. Took me a minute.

My wife was too but over the last few months she’s back on the slimming path.

I wish they'd go back to the sharp edges. The rounded edges are beautiful but the phones are too damned slippery. I'd love an XR crossed with a 5s.
Sharp edge designs are back. Just look at vehicle trends
