As usual, Samsung's bone crushing, world dominating tech to the rescue. It needs to be repeated, when Samsung innovates, the industry benefits.

Nobody is asking for a thinner iPhone. The only person who wants a thinner iPhone is Jony Ive so he can stroke his planet sized ego.
Wow, it's almost like you didn't read the article at all. I would argue that the obsession with thinner phones comes from trolls on sites like this since it is clear from the trend that this is not an obsession with Jony Ive.

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who can extrapolate relevant data from incomplete data sets...

For those in the 2nd category, iPhones have not been getting thinner therefore making thinner iPhones is obviously not Jony Ive's first priority despite what you might read on MacRumors.

All non-Plus iPhones had garbage battery life. Then Apple listens to us, makes a thicker phone with great battery life and we still have people to complain about it.

Anyone who complains that an iPhone is too thick should be fined $100,000 on the spot and be banned from buying iPhones for 1 year.

And some of us add a case to improve the grip of the phone, and don't case about it being a millimeter thicker.
I'm also in favor of a thicker phone with a bigger battery, and no protruding lens.

I Find these types of articles comical, as the article is discussing ‘How thick these iPhones are since 2014’, considering how thin they are now compared to an iPhone was 10 years ago, today’s iPhone is _not_ even remotely close to being ‘thick’. I never thought I would own a smart phone that is less than an inch thick And how powerful these devices are that can do so much.

Phones have also become heavier. Especially since we are doing this dumb trend of glass on the back for wireless charging, when Apple can’t even get its **** together to release their own wireless charger. Then I put a slim case on (with all that glass, it’s necessary for me) and wireless charging isn’t an option.

What are you talking about? I have a case on my XS and wireless charging works fine.

Also get rid of the notch. Give us more screen real estate back.

You realize the notch actually gives you more real estate. Without a notch, the screen would just end at the bottom of where the notch starts. With the notch, you get the two "ears" on either side, which in turn gives you more screen, not less.

"The bigger advantage for Apple may be reduced costs, as the report claims that the Y-OCTA displays are less expensive to manufacture, lowering the iPhone's bill of materials"
^^^^sure - I bet this means you will get lower iPhone prices /s

Actually it will, margins have stayed pretty much the same.
The reason your phone costs $999 is becsuse it costs $110 more to manufacture the X over the iPhone 8.

Apples margins are 59-64%

$110 in added manufacturing costs against there margin comes out to about $300

iPhone 8 was $699, and the X $999. So that’s literally a $300 difference. They aren’t increasing prices, it’s the competents manufacturers.

I don't understand people's desire to get rid of the camera bump. 95% of people use a case anyway which completely negates it. I was on team caseless with my 3g, 4, and 5, but since my 6+ and now X I'm case all the way. 1) it makes it way easier to hold and 2) on devices that cost ~$1,000 covered in glass front AND back... it just seems foolish not to cover it anymore.

First, show me data that says 95% of people use a case. I think the real number is materially lower - maybe 75% or so. See https://www.statista.com/statistics/368627/us-protective-case-usage-among-smartphone-owners/ and https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/...case-to-protect-their-phone-according-to-npd/ What I meant to say is that a significant number of users that don't use a case and would really prefer being able to lay the phone flat on a table without it wobbling. It's more than an unimportant minority.

Second, as you said, case users don't care whether or not there is a camera bump. A camera bump is not beneficial for using a case. So if case users are ambivalent, and caseless users would prefer no bump, isn't it still better to not have a bump on ballance?

Further, even when using a case, that space is wasted. Most cases are actually thicker than they have to be on the back except around the camera, so the camera lens is protected and the case can lay flat. That empty plastic could instead me something else, like a larger battery. So even case users, I think, should prefer no camera bump.

Who cares about thinness. Replace that missing top chunk of display.

Because that has everything to do with thinness. And this article. And physics.

Also get rid of the notch. Give us more screen real estate back.

Also, make it holographic, 7000x faster and free.

I don't give a rat's backside about thinness. I would like enough battery to keep everything going all day - WiFi, BT, GPS, CPU/GPU for 24 hours...

Jony Ive has said he envisions a future where iPhones are basically pieces of glass. He does want them thinner, the technology just isn't there yet.

Why does the XR always look like a cheap knockoff of the XS when they are pictured together? No wonder they already have such deep discounts advertised on Apple's homepage for it. Most Apple enthusiasts have plenty of disposable income and paying $1000+ for the best isn't a big deal. Poorer people who still want an iPhone will go for a much cheaper 7 or 8. The XR is a marketing mistake and making it thinner isn't going to help.

Make the XR display >400 PPI and at headphone jack = greatest phone of all time.

As it stands, the 6s+ remains the greatest phone of all time.

Get rid of that protruding camera lens and add more battery thickness. It will still be 7.7mm or whatever, but actually better in every way. Like, no actual downsides.

That makes zero sense when you consider that almost all phone owners use a case, which ends up making the bump flush. And the downside is obviously weight. Do you think they would fill the space with helium?

No, I think they fill the space with battery. I don't work out much or anything, but I think I can manage a phone weighing 8 ounces, or ~225 grams (which is about 10% heavier than the heaviest iPhone, the Xs Max).

I am only hopeful for ipad pro styling. Back to the days of easy to grip flat edges. Less slippery. Less case needed.

I miss the iphone 4 and 5. Those were ly favorite designs. Much like the white/black ipod nano. Just pure classic design.

I wish they'd go back to the sharp edges. The rounded edges are beautiful but the phones are too damned slippery. I'd love an XR crossed with a 5s.

An XR crossed with a 5S is the new ipad pro. XR is massive, and sadly explains why we won't be getting an XR mini. The bezels are huge.
