Ok so, just an observation… (and mods apologies if this is off-topic, feel free to remove)

I was under the impression these tariffs were for two things… 1, to reshore manufacturing to America; and 2, to offet revenue losses from the upcoming tax cuts.

So, if these have MASSIVE loopholes, they really weren’t to reshore manufacturing. Also, if they are only for more niche products, that won’t nearly be enough revenue to offset tax cuts.

So what are these tariffs for? Is it just a cheap political gimmick? Is it market manipulation?

Will he change his mind by Monday morning??

My goodness. This dude is making stuff up as he goes…noooo plan, whatsoever!

This is insane!

He's pretty smart with these strategic exemptions.

Seems he's decided re-shoring the garment industry and making T-shirts and socks is most important to Americans. Those are very important skills for the next decade.

It’s for more $$ for the chosen ones.

It’s both of those things you listed.
As an American, who would absolutely love to purchase an iPhone completely and totally built in America, it’s just… literally not possible.
It could eventually become possible one day, but even still, we are talking about decades of built-up infrastructure, education and massive advancements in automation that would need to happen first.
The idea that 90% plus of iPhone manufacturing could be in China in 2024, and then 90% of iPhone manufacturing could be in America in 2025 is just laughable.
Even if Apple pushed and pushed and pushed to build everything in America going forward, we are talking about a goal that wouldn’t be realized until 2045, at the earliest.

Trump folded quick 😂
I guess you could say he became a Panican 😂

This is awesome news!

Definitely happy that Apple products were able to get a tariff exemption
To me this is terrible news. So just allow China to keep building their massive tech lead and industry over the rest of the world??? Sad day. We don't need to buy all the crap we buy, and I would be happy to see Apple eat a fortune in taxes it has to pay in these tariffs. There has to be a way to get rid of Tim Crook. With everything that has happened he appears to have paid $1m to get exemptions. Sad and it just shows the greed and corruption at the top.

Folks, he started his tariff announcements on April 2nd talking about Apple's big investments in America. Of course he has to support them.

This is a show...with real consequences and real people getting hurt. The collateral damage will be enormous and much of it is already pre-ordained and now unavoidable. But the damage doesn't matter to the people inflicting it.

It didn't matter in 2018 either. My company lost nearly all of its EXPORT business TO CHINA after the 2018 tariff. At a 25% price disadvantage (in addition to the shipping, etc), we lost the very thing that Trump said he was trying to promote.

For nearly 20 years, I was told to move manufacturing from the US to China to save money and move closer to the market (that had already moved to China). And for years I said "no". I wanted to keep jobs in the US. And the Orange Man took them away anyway.

If Atlas ever shrugs, THIS will be why.

Yes, except for the "cheap" part. It's an incredibly expensive and destabilizing political gimmick.
Not for his buddies

Trump Brags About How Tariff Pause Made His Friends Even Richer

Donald Trump is openly bragging about just how much money his billionaire buddies made off of his dangerous tariff gambit.

After announcing a 90-day pause Wednesday on his sweeping “reciprocal tariff” policy on nearly every country — with the exception of China — Trump was excited to take credit for making a buck for his guests at the Oval Office.

“He made $2.5 million today, and he made $900 million! That’s not bad,” Trump said, pointing to financial investor Charles Schwab and Roger Penske, a Nascar team owner, respectively.

Bloomberg reported that Wednesday was the “best day ever” for billionaires, as the world’s wealthiest people raked in a heaping $304 billion as the markets shot back up.

First, this exception applies to all brands of products in these categories. Second, manufacturers will not "eat" these tariffs– they will be passed on to consumers.
