I was on vacation in Boston last month and tried all apple stores for 16Gb iphones. All apple stores in Boston were sold out and low on the 8Gb models.
Tried the at&t stores in Boston. They were a joke. They had plenty of both in stock but told me that they could not sell me any phones unless I signed a contract there and then for 5 years.

My girlfriend telephoned another at&t store in Boston and was told that their policy was that they did not sell handsets alone and that you had to sign up for a 2 year contract in store. Does anyone know the exact policy ??? Was it just the English accent that led them to tell lies????

Anyone had the same problems with at&t.

That told exactly to a friend i sent to buy iphone. They said that he has to sign a contract.I believe that you are right.I think that is the accent that make them to behave like this because as far as i know if you pay the full retail price of the phone they are supposed to sell it.So as i previously said the only way it's applestore!

Does anyone actually think, it maybe that the iPhone is a popular gadget, and so alot of people are buying it?

Especially tourists in places like NY?

MMMMM, iPhone shortage, Walt Mossberg claiming a 3G iPhone in 60 days, "leaked" 3G iPhone picture, reports of already ordered 10 million units [3G plausible] from Hon Hai [factory in China that makes iPhones] and many erie clues pointing to World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco....

Seems to add up...

Then again, it may be our expectations building up and piecing things together the way we want them. I personally want the 3G version now to replace my current iPhone. Anyway....

Still 5-7 days wait time at Apple.com. Must be quite a shortage. Here in the UK it is 24 hours for either model.

In any case, 60 days is a long time from now so I wouldn't hold my breath expecting that these shortages are any sort of indication that a 3G iPhone is coming anytime sooner.

I just checked all three Manhattan stores and they're sold out:(. I also checked the Staten Island store and the one at the Palisades mall, also zilch. Looks like I will be ordering online.

Oh it doesnt look there will be a new iPhone till us Brits run out of the damn things..... I WANT A 3G iPHONE

WAAAAAAH (baby crying)

I'll try and call each day for the next week to let you know if they have inventory, sindrejibb.

Hahahahaha, I know you want me to call. But I live in Norway.:D

But I think AT&T stores are a more secure shot.

We all know employees at the Apple Store are treated like mushrooms but a tech at the 14th NYC store did let slip yesterday that they (the employees) are all waiting for some kind of announcement as to the deal with the iPhone.

I knew that you live in Norway from an earlier post, that's why I was offering to check for you. AT&T stores are definitely a better way to get an iphone right now.

Why don't the NYC people cross the bridge and pick iPhones up in NJ? I just bought an 8Gb iPhone a week ago @ the apple store in Edison, NJ. They said they had lots of 8Gb and 16Gbs available. Also, the AT&T stores at Jersey Gardens has them as well the Apple Store in Short Hills Mall.

Thanks for that info. I'll definitely head to Short Hills then.

when iphone came out, damn, i thought it would have a real tough time selling... I thought that nobody would buy it especially when 8gb was $599. Im surprised people take a liking to it considering it has to be JB to use with other networks, and exp. tarrifs.

I've been a fan of Apple products for years, but i wasnt gong to get an iPhone, but then i went to my local Apple store to browse, played with the iPhone for about 5 Minutes, then bought it!!!

Its hard not to fall in love with the thing, had it for about 4 months, and im still in love with it!!!

I've heard of people getting them through AT&T stores by telling them that they are gifts, and they plan on registering them via iTunes.
Maybe try that approach?

Haha, I thought you were kidding. You don't need to call Apple Store every day to update me :p That's too much.

But that was VERY kind of you. Too kind! :) I don't expect daily updates from you people. But if anybody have been there, you can come with your experience.

Who wants to go to Jersey... :p

Do 5th avenue have them in stock today? My brother, who is going to buy them for me are now in NY and is going to Apple Store 5th avenue today!

It's probably quicker for your brother to go and find out then it is to wait for a forum member who just happened to be in that store today buying an iPhone to come along and reply to your thread (which you're not supposed to bump).

The guy who should buy one for me bought a 16GB today at 5th avenue! So I can confirm there are stock in New York!
