Opened up a 7R744, 7455232 screen with no negative blacks (not even mild). Colors on this screen were off though, overly warm. I have seen about 7 different iPhone screens of different IDs and I can detect the minute details out of each one.

In terms of the interlacing effects seen by users in this forum, I can confirm that they are on my 5-series, but also seen on this 7455232 to a lesser degree, I am suspecting due to the darker contrast of this screen. I am going to make a guess and say that all iPhone screens have this to some degree, it just depends how sharp your eyes are and how tolerant you are of that effect, as well as the LCD panel contrast. That being said, it is a minor effect that won't be noticed by 95% of the people out there, me being in the other 5% :D

thanks,

does this not concern people given the imminent launch of the iphone in the uk? i'd quite like to get one, but not if there's a chance of this happening!

updates!

Yes, please keep us updated! It took me s e v e r a l to finally get a good one. I am curious if this problem continues. I was at the NY 5th ave store picking up stuff on Tuesday and all the ones on display were bad.

Has anyone been able to get a week 42+ with the 7459072 screen? Or better yet, has anyone gotten a 5-series screen recently?

I just got a Week 42 last weekend with 7455232. Unfortunately it has mild negative screen problem.

I have no contract w/ AT&T, without activating, I can't access any page other than the activation page. How should I show and proof it to the "genius" @ the genius bar that it has a problem? Any ideas?

It certainly concerns me, and is the main reason I will be buying my iPhone in an Applestore rather than an 02 or CPW store.

I bought one of the early iPod touches with this problem, and got a full refund with no questions asked when I took it back to the Birmingham Bullring Applestore. (Also, having played with the touch interface, I decided I wanted an iPhone instead!)

Perhaps version 1.1.2 for the iPhone 'fixes' the negative black problem, just as 1.1.1 seemed to fix it for the touch? We should find out in three days!

one of the ways to do it is to hold the top button down and let it go into the power down screen. You can see the negative blacks on the picture of the earth when its darkened.

Amazing. Apple just sent me a brand new phone, week 44. Same problem. This is getting ridiculous.

The grey line that goes across the top under Not Activated should be BRIGHT, CLEAR light grey, not dark, muddy, hard to see black/negative.

Thanks for the advise, I actually tried it when I first got the phone, but it really isn't the most obvious thing to see, especially inside Apple store's bright lighting. Now rumor has it that a new firmware is coming out this Friday, I think I will have to try living with mine.

If not try to use the *#307# trick instead. Go to emergency calls, dial that number. While the phone rings, delete the number inputted and call 0. Press hold then press decline. That should get you to the contacts screen. Enter "prefs://1F" without the quotes as your url and save. Try to access it and it will get u into the preferences screen. Then select your wifi network. Afterwards it will exit to the homescreen agaain. Dial 0, hold then decline again. Now create a new contact with www.appleservedup.com as your page. There are a bunch of tests there that will show the screen problems but i dont know if the apple employee wil consider that as a 3rd party hack or anything. Technically it isnt but they probably will argue that.

I just got my replacement 7R744 with the 7455232 panel. I definitely have the negative black issue. Very clear. I still have the one I need to send back here and I compared. Wow. Aside from the yellow tint and negative problem, I enjoy the colors on this one, very rich and natural.

I am not sure what to do. I hope the update fixes this, as this one would probably be perfect if that happened.

i got a 7s744 iphone the other day that had a perfect screen no neg. blacks but it had around 5 dead pixels. apple shipped me out another one that is 7v744. anyone have any problems with a 7v744 or is it hit or miss?

thanks,
ipaqman

My latest experience. Unlocked my buddy's 7T739 and it was the 5-series screen. Called a local class ad and the seller had a 7T739 with the good 7-series screen. Now I am getting my 7T741 iPhone and I will report which screen I get later, but it looks like luck of the draw.

got a 7t741 yesterday and its perfect not a single problem except the usual stuck pixel that is hardly noticible which every iphone screen has. Go for the 41 i am pickey and have had several iphones and this one is the best.

1.1.2 contrast

I have a 4GB that had mild negative black effect.
After the 1.1.2 update today I noticed the screen looked different.
So I checked it out on appleservedup.com and I can not see any negative black anymore. Could they have altered the contrast to adjust this?
Anyone else notice this or am I losing it?
