I have a 4GB that had mild negative black effect.
After the 1.1.2 update today I noticed the screen looked different.
So I checked it out on appleservedup.com and I can not see any negative black anymore. Could they have altered the contrast to adjust this?
Anyone else notice this or am I losing it?

I've only seen one other report of someone whose phone was fixed by the new firmware. I installed the firmware on my phone and if anything, it made it worse and alot more noticable. I'm just about ready to ask apple for an iPod touch or a refund. I'm already on my third phone, apple says they can only send one more and that's it. Out of the 7 phones ive had (loaner + mine) only 2 were okay.

Any European buyers experiencing the problem?

I have just activated my new UK iPhone with O2. It was very quick with no delays.

It is a wk 43, running version 1.1.2.

I have just tested the screen and it looks perfect. Used www.appleservedup.com to check for dead pixels and there are none! Also no negative blacks!!

I had one of the first touches in the UK and that suffered with neg blacks, so I know just what they look like. The test video that looked dire on the touch looks fantastic on the iPhone!

Anyway, I am a VERY happy bunny :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

EDIT: Just to add that my LCD Panel ID is 7455232

I have a UK iPhone with negative black issue and some dead pixels!

And a perfect US iPhone!

I don't know whether to return it or keep it!?

UK iPhone has 24hr Clock (ie, 01:24) US iPhone is 12hr Clock.

The US iPhone has better colours, Grey LOOKS Grey, whereas UK iPhone Grey looks like Dark Gray/Brown...

Also when you hold the screen up on the UK iPhone Jay-Z arms almost vanish in the background.

You CAN'T see the dead pixels on the UK iPhone in there photos.

You will notice that the negative black screens have a "yellow" tint to their colour.

US iPhone is a week 38!

UK iPhone is a week 42!

I would add my UK iPhone LCD Panel ID is 7455232 - Just like those guys above - so I hate to say it BUT either some of the batch are bad OR their screens are also not right - even if they think they are!

I suppose I could go to the O2 shop and ask then to check the serial of EVERY iPhone!

This is exactly why I decided on a UK phone as I KNOW I could go into an Apple Store (if only one was near me!) and swap it for a new one or at very least get a replacement from Apple which I would not have been able to do with my US phone!

Good thing my US phone has such a good screen!

The screen issue is hit or miss actually i had a week 38 iphone with the negative screen issue and swapped it for a week 35 and its perfect, so its hard to tell just by the serial #'s

I have a question for you - when you swapped it what happened with activation?

My phone is activated with a number on the SIM in it - if I changed it for another phone then iTunes will think it is new and ask me to re-activate it?

Is that right? there are NO apple stores anywhere near me! only O2 and CPW!

Actually, your colors look fine compared to the iPhones and iPod Touch's with the problems here in the US.

Maybe it's just Apple using much cheaper screens on the new models?

Definitely, the screen that he's showing doesn't look TOO bad. The one's ive gotten are all just horrible. I don't understand how they fixed the iPod touch but 2 months after, the iPhone is still being sold this way. Im wondering if most of the phones in the UK are bad as well, people must just be so excited to have the phone that they may not have noticed the problem yet. This one on the left is the newest one that i've received

I have the same negative black after 1.1.2 :(

i have a uk week 42 but I dunno whether I have the negative black issue
I've checked the website and the first test looks ok. Then what should I expect since it say faulty black radiant test for the second test does it mean my iphone is faulty ? the jay Z test is confusing too.can someone clearly explain what should I expect from theses tests

EDIT:
actually i've checked vs my powerbook and the grey looks more yellow on my iphone, but it does not look so bad i mean is it a reason to ask for an exchange ? is there a youtube film or video somewhere where i can test further to see whether it's a real annoying issue?

I bought a UK iPhone last night (week 42, Panel 7455232) that had a stuck pixel and negative black. I've just got back from getting it replaced and the new one is also week 42, Panel 7455232 but has no stuck pixels and does not exhibit the negative black problem.

It is a super lottery with replacing the phone - thats the problem.

You may get a good one or it may be WORSE!

Who knows! What happened with activation on your new phone? as the old was was activated - what happened when you connected it to iTunes?

They swapped over the SIM in the shop and then when I got back home I plugged it back in (surprisingly Vista decided that it needed to do the install driver thing). Once iTunes recognised the phone it asked me to enter my phone number (and once more for confirmation), my AppleID and password and then activated the phone, 30 seconds later I was back on the network.

I was more than a little bit apprehensive about the whole thing but it couldn't have been easier, including getting the phone replaced in the first place.

Did it take you back to the original activation page or was it a different page that recognised the SIM card was already activated?

I'm very critical of imperfections in the stuff I buy. My first Mac (an SE/30) had a tiny black speck in the phosphor on the screen. I had Apple fix it - the local supplier didn't think it was a problem, but it was either that or give me a refund! (As there was a 2 month waiting list - they had just been launched - they took it to bits and replaced the screen!)

I was VERY excited when I got my iPod touch home, but then spotted the negative blacks straight away. (To be honest I was aware of the problem from the forums, but the problem was obvious from the first movie I viewed.)

The risk that I would get a 'bad' iPhone screen was very much a concern leading up to the launch, and the main reason I made a 2hr round trip to buy mine from an Apple Store rather than my local O2 store. I have had a long, critical look at my iPhone screen, and I cannot see any flaws. That isn't to say that if I looked at it alongside a different iPhone it might not look as good. I'm sure Apple are using cheaper (and lower quality) screens than were used in the first iPhones, but it seems a lottery as to whether they look 'good' or 'bad'.

Perhaps there is a bigger variance in the imperfections or the alignment or something of these new screens, such that those in the middle of the normal distribution (like mine) look fine, whereas those at the extremes show the problems?

Did it take you back to the original activation page or was it a different page that recognised the SIM card was already activated?

It skipped the initial screens and took me to the one that asks for your current number when porting.

Waiting on word for a 7S744.. What are the chances for the 7459072 screens to show up?

just checked....
my (german) iPhone has a 7459072 screen and as far as i can tell it's perfect

7459072 screens seem to be the minority though, all but one that ive received have been 7455232. The newest phone that ive received (week 44) is also a 7455232.
