Apple really seems to be dropping the ball lately when it comes to upgrades. First, it was the iPhone 4 proximity sensor/antenna debacle and now this. They need to make sure all of their latest products adhere to the "it just works" mentality.
I loved my iPhone 3G and after I saw the iPhone 4 event, I knew it was time to upgrade. WRONG!! I started putting colleagues on speakerphone and conferencing in unsuspecting third-parties during sensitive calls. Unaccaptable. I was not happy having to ditch my iPhone 4, but I did it because I needed a phone that functioned correctly as a basic phone when I needed it to work. To this day, even with the release of the iOS that supposedly fixed the problem, the threads about iPhone 4 proximity sensor problems continue on Apple's discussions boards.
I don't depend on iPhoto in the same way I did on my iPhone, but it does contain all of my photos from the last 3+ years. I have everything backed up, but it's not worth the hassle of dealing with another "upgrade a la iPhone 4." I'll stick with iLife '09 until Apple gets their stuff together. I hope this kind of shoddiness won't begin to carry over into their computer hardware or I will be extremely disappointed when it comes time for me to purchase a new MacBook Pro in a year or two.
