1) It's interesting to note that (at least as far as I can see) the earbuds are only headphones--they don't appear to include the mic and volume controls that come with an iPhone headset.

2) The nosy person in me wonders what else you might see in the reflection of the MacPro if that reflection was un-distorted. My photoshop skills are nowhere near that good, though...

3) And yeah, I hope it is a fully-beefed-out example. For that price, it ought to be! It'd be even cooler if they had stuck a faster-than-publicly available CPU in there. Intel must have a few of those lying around, but not released because the yields don't yet allow it....

4) I wonder how long it'll be until Colorware makes look-alikes...

I don't know.

I still find it cynical that every quarter they make
Billions and billions of profit and have hundred billion cash lying around.

And what do they do for charity. Gather like 80 million which isn't even really their money.

Call me a pessimist but this is just one great stunt whereas they could do so much more if they truly cared (like bill gates who truly tries to do something good).

I see your point, but what you should understand is that Apple, just like other companies still in business, is a company first, and it is for PROFIT $$$, for $$$ - dollars - dough. They have employees, customers, share holders, and they have an obligation to all those. I would love for Apple to do more charity, but it's not my call.

wow.... over packaging much? Not environmentally friendly Apple.

Why not just donate the cash directly to (RED) instead of this blatant exercise of excess.

Sorry, but that Mac Pro looks cheap and nasty in the photo.

A nice soft mat red would look glassy, but that looks like the finish on a chat Christmas decoration. Not a quality look at all.

Tbh, I would pick a black over that any day, even at the same price

Obviously whoever purchased it thought otherwise.

I wonder if he got Apple Care for his shiny new Mac Pro. I know I would if I paid that much ;)

I don't get excited about a desktop with an intended purpose of being a disposable product. Are you in favour of forcing everyone using dual FirePro video cards even if the prosumer is a sound engineer?

The new Mac Pro is obviously geared more towards the video professional (and I can see photo as well). Does a sound engineer need the 6 TB2 ports? It's a serious question as I work with video a lot and not sound. When working with (especially) RAW video at 2.5k-4k the graphics cards and disk read/write speeds are going to be much welcomed over the hacked cards I run now with a flakey USB3 / eSata card on the current gen Mac Pro.

Wouldn't an iMac or even a Mini suffice if you don't need the video capabilities and TB2 speeds?

Do you think he will mind if ifixit.com borrows it for one of their teardowns?
They'll put it back together...

At least some benchmarks or something.

Unfortunately, they were still HP, so they also crapped out and were returned to Staples and Walmart 3 months later (after hours on the line with frustrating "tech support").

Actually, they were HP Zs so they pretty much lasted forever without a failure, but if something did fail an HP tech would be on site the next day.

Also, you cannot buy Zs at Staples or Walmart. If you are going to be all hypothetical at least do it right.

I saw these in the flesh at Sothebys.
Perhaps I am the only here who did?
I have not seen the black macpro, but the RED one was utterly, surprisingly, beautiful.

The Leica was also quite amazing. Essentially a perfect version of the type of camera Leica already produce. Truly one of a kind. My choice:)

The bidding on the macpro was the strangest for any item ever, there were 2 bidders who went up in $100,000 and $10,000 units. $200,000 then 210,000; 300,00 then 310,000 up to 800,000 and 810,000. Unique for any auction. Fitting? The bidder for the even 100,000s was in the room, the winner was on the phone.

Tim Cook was in the room and did not bid on anything.

he's gonna be disappointed in a few years when he realizes he needs more RAM
.... but then it'll go between the Cube the Apple IIc

I bet iFixit would love to get their hands on that Mac Pro. Be the first for the tear down.

I doubt this Mac Pro will ever be used. It's going to sit in a display case like a trophy.
