lol quadcore, hp had 16 core machines out back in 2011.

So? This is the fastest chip available and massively out performs a 2011 16 core machine even a 2013 current 16 core machine in most tasks. You are not looking at the machine as a whole the Processing power on the Graphics card FAR outweighs even the CPU. CPU is less important these days for 95% of Task.

The people that are hanging onto Raw CPU power just don't get it at all. The GPU should really be called the processing engine. It's not just for Graphics anymore. ANY process could be fed thought the GPU with the right software. Video or Audio Compression. Database searching. Compiling code.

Oh and seriously you bring up Dell, the company with the worst return rate and Shocking customer service with their 28 day repair policy ( oddly great monitor service tho - 1 day swap out 3 year warranty!?! )

What's the point? The vast majority of Mac Pros live under desks anyway. (Which makes it all the more annoying that they're cylindrical, as you can't properly shove them into the corner.)

you underestimate the number of buyers who assume ownership confers status. If there were an easy way to use it Starbucks you know they would

Or maybe because Apple doesn't make a 16 core machine so it has no benefit for you. You know, like 12 core MacPro. Totally unnecessary ;)

Oh and BTW the graphic on 2012 MacPro sucked too. Radeon 5750 for $2499 .. Sweet

This Mac Pro will change all that. Small though to live on the desktop.

You can't shove any tower type machine 'into' the corner... they all have cables. This one will actually have a gap so you could have them disappear somewhere.

Euclidean geometry is fantastic. And so is to have space for cables in the corner.

When I get mine, it's going on top of my desk. All I got so far is a solar keyboard. Looking for the right mouse and speakers. I'm also looking at some desk but want to wait to I see the machine before I buy a new one. My old desk is huge and goes with my older MacPro to my brothers. The wait is killing me. I do wish it came in a brushed silver along with the black. The 'RED' is very nice and I'm glad it went for so much at the auction.

Apple should make the Mac Pro in a range of colours as a homage to the original coloured iMac which kick started their revival and Jony's rise to fame. Add a new lower priced version for home users and I'm sure it would be a big seller worldwide.

With core i7 and proper gaming graphics (none of this laptop or integrated crap) and call it the 'Mac'.

Yes. But these new ones don't do they. and you are not getting it are you. There are no 16 Core version of this Processor set. They don't exist yet

Even if you are talking about dual 8 core CPUS - x64 processors do not scale well in parallel. The overhead is exponential looking after the cores. Heat / power is much higher.

The speed gains do not double when you throw in more cores. GPU core however are designed to scale. The Firepros and Quadras are WAY WAY Faster at most tasks than the CPUs.

Most studio based workstations that are set up right run a 4-core workstation with a single FAST graphics card that is faster at single thread tasks and have a rack of 10-30 GPUS in the machine room. That are basically running the TFlops in excess of 100 which is equal to a 2000 CPU renderfarm.

One of my favourite things about the very first startup of a new Mac, is the smell of the electronics warming up. Love that smell. But if I'd paid a million bucks for the machine, I think I'd hate that smell. Major kernel panic!

The Mac Pro sold for $977,000 while the solid gold EarPods sold for $461,000. Other items sold at the auction included a Steinway & Sons grand piano that sold for $1,925,000

Poor guy couldn't afford the piano so he just went for the red computer and red buds for his girlfriend.

'Its only quad-core'???

'Damn, what a ripoff'!!!!!

Were the deleted tweets.

They didn't list the specs of the red MP.. but I'm sure it's 12-core.

That Mac Pro is so beautiful. I wish I had a chance at purchasing something like that.

Really...? It looks a lot like a cylindric version of a christmas ornament to me...

Wait where are all of the 'He's greedy rich' posts at now, like there were in the original thread....

Dunno, but here's one of the 'complaining about posts I expected from other people that apparently didn't happen'.. you wouldn't happen to be a conservative republican would you? :)

*groans*

Right, because all tasks are highly parallel.

GPUs are very good at specific tasks. They are, after all, highly parallel-ized implementations of a relatively simple design. CPUs on the other hand are highly complicated implementations of-- well, 2-8 threads or more these days, vs, hundreds or thousands. Those two to eight threads on the other hand are far faster (and more flexible) than the hundreds or thousands of shading processors in GPUs.

And forget about anything that requires good branch prediction (something Intel's CPUs are very good at these days-- as was the PowerPC in its day).

And they aren't called GPUs for what you're describing, the term is GPGPU.

Also, probably closer to 5% of tasks are utilized by the GPU these days-- not counting 3D graphics, of course.

I wonder if they'll make a slightly smaller version as the new Mac Mini. Like you say add a decent processor and graphics card, make it a range of colours and I could see it being a bit hit if they priced it right.

I know tablets are the in thing right now and they're probably the future of computing but they're not there just yet so most of us still need another computer for work/home/games/etc.

It's funny that you have to say "actually" and then mention one product. Almost like, "Eexceptio probat regulam in casibus non exceptis."

Not exactly typical for a company that has for years dominated the cheapest corner of the market (both in price and materials) and has routinely scored at or near the bottom in reliability, customer service, and customer satisfaction, so I think my point stands.

Furthermore, I didn't mention "Z's," you did, so my hypothetical was, in fact, correct; it was your postulation that chased the exception to the rule.

Original guy you replied to mentioned 16 cores which would imply dual Xeons. Only one line in HP has Xeons, the Z. Also my post was also a spin on your silly post. :D Enjoy...

Also...

Guess you don't have any experience with HP's business line.

"Actually..."

I can just hear the tone in your voice. Are you one of those guys that has to always correct his friends when they say a joke wrong or tell little kids that there isn't really a Santa Clause?

Guess you don't have any experience with HP's business line.

Nope. Only crappy HP PC, after crappy HP PC, after crappy HP PC. One would hope that their customer service would be better for their top-of-the-line stuff, although that term is still a bit of a misnomer for them.

Are you one of those guys that always jumps to conclusions about people without full knowing them?
