I think the Shuffle still has it's place in Apple's iPod lineup,
but I would love to see Apple release a 6 or 8GB Nano this June and
lower the price of the 1GB and 4GB and discountinue the 2gb.
Sort of like this:

512 Shuffle $69
1GB Nano $99
4GB Nano $199
8GB Nano $249

That's what I'm waiting for... a nano with 8GB!!!

They should start marketing the shuffle as an athletic lifestyle accessory, since that's what it's best suited for. In fact, it wouldn't hurt to license the shuffle out to designer brands such as Nike; I'd be interested in a wide variety of player designs that all sync with my iTunes collection.

I've been keeping an eye on the refurb store (.ca) for a few weeks. They are liquidating the remaining PowerBook G4 (some 17" were sold at killer prices!), they have been doing the same with the Shuffle (which led me to believe something was up even before the 1GB nano rumor started.

Now, they've been liquidating Mac mini's for the past 4 days, he he he.

Good idea!

Not sure if anyone has noticed it yet.. but the refurbished 512 shuffle costs more than a new one.

Brilliant!

I did! Don't worry, they're just going to reflect the change next time the refurb store is updated.

I read a couple of articles from last year saying that the Shuffle has a better bass response and overall speaker output than most other machines, including third gen. iPods!

I wonder if this better bass response and output applies to the Nano. For me, the Shuffle is still a waay better buy than the nano because it is not so "precious". You can toss 'em around a little.

We'll see about that... the refurb store hasn't made a whole lot of sense lately. To me at least. :p

Down 22% over the last 3 weeks or so.

Doh!

...and up about that much in the prior 3-4 weeks... it was a stock run up for Q1 results and MacWorld.

The good news is that Apple P/E ratio is the lowest it has been since its stock came back alive, in other wise the stock price is starting to align to the performance of the company not just speculation.

I personally expect Apple to do well this year and the stock will respond to that but from more reasonable levels.

Excellent.

I'm disappointed that the shuffle hasn't been entirely discontinued (or at least reduced to only a 512MB version) as I genuinely think it's the worst piece of Apple hardware since Jobs' return. But that there's finally a £100-ish iPod which allows basic options such as easily selecting what song you want to listen to is great.

It also puts into perspective a bit the ridiculous prices for some of the accessories. You can get an iPod nano 1GB for £109, yet to equip it with FM radio reception costs £35. Ridiculous.

Sppeeeak for yourself. I like my shuffle/emergency usb storage device just fine.

I don't think that the 1GB shuffle will last much longer. But there may still be a market for the 512MB, as a really cheap music player/flashdrive.
i think it will last as long as apple keeps the nano priced at 149, when they can drop it to 99, then its long gone.

Nice to see Apple are giving a cheap alternative to the Shuffle. But, if I was shopping in that price range, I would choose the 1GB shuffle, I would feel more confident in it not breaking if I was doing something active.

1GB iPod shuffle 49$US
1GB iPod nano 99$US
2GB iPod nano 149$US
4GB iPod nano 199$US
40GB iPod 249$US
60GB iPod 299$US
80GB iPod 349$US
I would make that

1GB iPod shuffle 69$US
2GB iPod nano 129$US
4GB iPod nano 199$US
8GB iPod nano 249$US
40GB iPod 249$US
80GB iPod 349$US

I think I will buy a 1GB Nano, and I never thought about owning a shuffle.

I just like the look and feel on the Nano line better then the shuffle.

With the new 1GB Nano, and the price cuts on the Shuffles, I think it's less likely than ever that the 100 song cap on Motorola's iTunes phones will be lifted anytime soon. Where's Apple's incentive, given the way the iPod hardware is selling (and where the real money is, right now)?

What is 3-4 inches in length? I wouldn't go around addmiting to that:eek:

Oh, you mean each song 3-4 MINUTES...well, that is something you can admit too:)

In the world of double-entendres, 3-4 minutes is nothing to brag about either ;)

80GB would be at least $399
Not much of a market for a 8 GB nano, would be too expensive.
Maybe a 6GB nano.

My dream line up:

512MB Shuffle $49
1GB nano $99
6GB nano $199
40GB iPod $249
80GB iPod with WideScreen $399
