Deal breaker for me is an internal speaker. I want to be able to sit and watch quick video content on my iPod touch without having to connect headphones. I don't care about the sound quality for a YouTube clip or video short, etc. External volume controls are very good addition, though.

802.11n isn't really something that the touch needs, unless there is some whizbang home networking built-in that we don't know about. For browsing on Safari, .11g is fine.

Maybe the touch will get optional data only service, like WiMax or something . That would be neat-O. Also I would be glad to see the scratch-magnet metal backing go...

Since it is thicker, it better have a lot more memory as a trade off. Also it may have true gps and some other features since it is bulking up. I personally like the slimmer design, but will take the slightly thicker one as long as it is a major rehaul. 80211.n would be nice as well.

that's is for the 3g attenna. data plan for the ipod touch.

i can only dream.

It's thicker. So it's GOT to have real GPS (not the iPhone fake-GPS). And volume buttons as well? I couldn't be happier.

If the iPhone doesn't have it, then the iPod Touch won't.

Though I do wonder why the iPhone doesn't, since 802.11n is something Apple pushes across their Mac line... I would think somebody makes an 802.11n chipset that would fit.

I believe you would need multiple antennas for the N spec. They might not fit well in a device like this and use too much power.

What would the benefits of N on the Touch or the iPhone be? Internet speeds for 99% of the users still is slower that the max speed of G...

Here is my "leaked" script for the Sept. 9th event...

Steve: "The iPod Nano is now 15 millimeters taller than the previous version. We hope you will enjoy this new design. Thank you for coming. That's all."

Seriously, what else will he say? Even if all the iTunes/iPod related rumors are all true.
Ok he might add "and we've added and auto-fill playlist and cool graphics to iTunes and redesigned the rear cover of the iPod touch" I think this means there is something coming we don't know about. If he only talked about the current rumors he's get booed off the stage for wasting people's time. My guess is some big unexpected announcement. Maybe the end of DRM'd music. Apple will follow Amazon.com's and/or emusic.com's lead hence the new major revision of iTunes

I wonder how the new nano will be like when holding it to watch movies? Well we will soon find out :D

What would the benefits of N on the Touch or the iPhone be?

For me, I would not need to maintain a separate 802.11g WiFi network for my iPhone. All my other equipment is 802.11n and I prefer to keep it at maximum performance, since I use it for data transfer in addition to internet access, so the extra performance is noticeable in those areas.

Certainly not a big issue for me, to be sure, but if it could be done conveniently and for minimal cost, I'd welcome it. :)

Are you kidding? Get an iPhone if you want a "data plan".

Touch users don't want iPhones exactly because they have plans. We either don't like AT&T, don't want a $2000 contract, or both. Putting any kind of contract on the Touch would ruin its entire purpose.

Does anyone think the new ipods will have screen problems like they did last year with the touch?

It's iPod TOuch not iTouch that really makes me mad when people say iTouch they sound like idiots who don't know anything about technology.

hahaha, thanks for that. (I can only hope that was tongue in cheek, because if not, buddy you've got anger management issues.)

I don't like that they're going back to the longer nano. I didn't like the fatty when it came out, but after seeing one up close it's really grown on me. The new design is too zune-like.

The touch is what we expected I guess. Physical volume controls are a good thing, but too bad it's getting thicker.

What is that? AutoCAD 10??? That just looks really, really bad. I suppose if it's a case supplier company than maybe but I'd sure as heck hope Apple isn't using that software...

Physical volume buttons. Good!

Agreed. Maybe they include the iPhone's earbuds with the button to play/pause. I love that feature on the iPhone, too bad it won't resume playeing after 2 minutes of pause because the iPhone went on standby. Should be a longer delay, like 30 minutes in my opinion.

I like the new nano from these pictures; tapered back, big display.

It would mean that I wouldn't have to run my AEBS in b/g/n compatible mode or have a separate b/g router just for the Touch or iPhone. THAT is the biggest benefit, and it *is* a big one to me.

How is the iPhone GPS Fake? I was under the impression it is position assisted GPS which would be BETTER then the best they could put into the iPod touch without some sort of service plan. I thought the cellular signal was just used to obtain a faster satellite fix.

Yeah, it is annoying that because of my iPhone every device in my house has to run off of g.

With the bigger dimensions for the iPod Touch, I think they are gong to dump the iPod Classic and have iPod Touch with hard-drives.

Don't forget many people (like me) hate the Apple earbuds, and therefore don't use them. I myself would be happy with a simple set of volume controls on the physical Touch.
