With the bigger dimensions for the iPod Touch, I think they are gong to dump the iPod Classic and have iPod Touch with hard-drives.

I could be mistaken but doesn't the touch interface require flash to run smoothly?

that's is for the 3g attenna. data plan for the ipod touch.

i can only dream.

I was thinking the same, long shot but maybe just edge service. I have the Iphone but some people might love the phone they have and still want something more. I do doubt this as I think it would cut down on Iphone sales but still would be nice. kevin

It would mean that I wouldn't have to run my AEBS in b/g/n compatible mode or have a separate b/g router just for the Touch or iPhone. THAT is the biggest benefit, and it *is* a big one to me.

Actually, that's a really good point. G devices slow down N devices. Even if wireless N on the Touch was never really useful, the fact that it would not slow down my N devices would be plenty enough.

So if Im reading this correctly:

New iPod nano: Height: 3.57 inches (90.75mm), Width 1.53 inches (38.75mm), Depth 0.24 inches (6.08mm) Total Volume: 1.311
Current iPod nano: Height: 2.75 inches (69.8 mm), Width: 2.06 inches (52.3 mm), Depth: 0.26 inch (6.5 mm) Total Volume: 1.473

New iPod touch: Height : 4.37 inches (111mm), Width: 2.43 inches (61.80mm), Depth 0.33 inches (8.40mm) Total Volume: 3.504
Current iPod touch: Height: 4.3 inches (110 mm), Width: 2.4 inches (61.8 mm), Depth: 0.31 inch (8 mm) Total Volume: 3.199

Eat my iTouch. LOL

......

The touch is what we expected I guess. Physical volume controls are a good thing, but too bad it's getting thicker.

It may be a good thing though... more features.....

I'd prefer GPS. Speakers would be nice, but GPS is what I really want. And GPS would definitely require a slightly thicker Touch.

or both. Both would be nice.... Eirther way I have high hopes for the new iPod Touch

ummm no. It would be a lot thicker. Plus they wont drop the classic. Not untill at least 2011, 10 years after the ipod was born.

Don't forget many people (like me) hate the Apple earbuds, and therefore don't use them. I myself would be happy with a simple set of volume controls on the physical Touch.

same here. I have a Bose headset I got on sale for $125 (i know but I like HD sound) and it works fine. Had the gold prong for best sound. and its bose!

I certainly hope not. The Touch and Classic are aimed at different markets, and neither one can effectively replace the other. Not everybody wants a click wheel (thus the touch) but also not everybody wants a touch screen (thus the Classic). If they ever do away with the Classic and Nano then I will never buy another iPod, period, end of story.

I agree,

Plus it would be nice to own an iPod that doesn't go into the shop once a year from hard disk failures like that of all of my friends who own new classics.

Though in apples defense, my 3G iPod is still kicking on its original disk drive.

How is the iPhone GPS Fake? I was under the impression it is position assisted GPS which would be BETTER then the best they could put into the iPod touch without some sort of service plan. I thought the cellular signal was just used to obtain a faster satellite fix.

Actually, having just read up on AGPS on the internet, I don't know what I was talking about.

Regardless, the Touch certainly can have the older-style GPS which requires no internet or phone connection whatever to work. Preloaded maps will make that possible.

Yes, A-GPS (as in 3G iPhone) is better because the phone can lock on a location even if your receiver doesn't see all the satellites it needs to, like in cities, inside buildings, and other obstructed locations. It still has full GPS capabilities (i.e. real GPS), but with additional software and hardware guidance.

the 2.5G iPhone and the current iPod touch have the "A" without the "-GPS" part (i.e. fake GPS).

well, I like them if only they would last longer than 3 months. The current earbuds with the rubber ring really suck. Either it's the plug part dissolving, one bud getting more silent than the other one, the rubber coming off or the grille part coming off of the rest...

If there were normal earbuds (no in-ear) with a srtraight plug that fits into the EDGE iPhone jack and a compatible mic with button, I'd love to have one.

OMG...what is wrong with you people.
No wonder there is so much hatred in the world :(

In an effort to stay on the 'correct naming' theme.

I know what the big surprise is being announced Sept 9th.
They bought Hershey foods, and the new product is called iCandy.
(and I don't want to see anyone calling it eye-candy)
Need much better screens, which is why the nano is growing,
and it will be so ....... saweeeeeeet!:p

Seems to me that Apple considers hard disks an old tech and are moving away from them as fast as they can.

Can't really tell how curved the screen is, or if it is curved at all from those dimensions.

I actually hate earbuds in general. In additional to the disgust I find in actually putting them into your ear, earbuds provide worse sound quality, and are the main cause of damage to our ears. Open-ear-type headphones, which incidentally provide the best sound quality out there, also allow the sound to disperse a little more into the air, severely limiting any damage to your ears.

Don't you mean the iPod nano? It absolutely drives my crazy when people just call it the nano. And when I have a pet peeve I expect everybody to share it.

People shorten names all the time, I don't see what the big deal is. I have to admit iTouch bothers me though, because its creating an entirely new name rather than using a portion of the actual product name.

So if you worked in a store that sold iPod's, and a customer came in and asked if they could have an iPod you'd say, "iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Nano or the iPod Shuffle?" instead of "The Touch, Classic, Nano or Shuffle?"

well they also fall off easy and dont have a secure fit. Over the ear is the best in my opinion

I would actually just say, "Which model of iPod would you like?" ;)

+1
