My 1G 1GB shuffle just kicked the bucket too, and I'm not sure if it's a software or hardware issue. I know iTunes 7 killed a few, but since ther's no recall, I don't have much recourse I suppose.
I'd like to get one of these just to have one.
As for the single port that works as a headphone jack, data jack, and charger jack, that is very, very cool. I wish they'd incorporate that into all the iPods. It would make for some very neat peripherals!

Apple just released an iPod shuffle Reset utility last week that may help you.
I think at that price, I might have ordered one as well. If not a dozen...

i ordered mine september 17th, and im still getting the ship date oct 31 with arriving on the 7th even though i have overnight delivery
Ordered mine September 17 as well and got my shipping notice today. I'm sure it's partially to do with geography, and partially random.
If a recent report from ThinkSecret holds true, Apple may be experiencing extremely high demand for the player, as reportedly Apple's retail stores have been told that shipments to them will be delayed until "mid-November" at the earliest. In addition, resellers such as Amazon are reported to have updated their shipping estimates to November 25th - December 9.
