If that report is true I wouldn't be surprised that Apple ends up selling quite a lot of Silver-case 2 GB iPod nanos because there will be serious shortages of the new 2G iPod Shuffle.

ehh no i dont think so
like with me i have a nano, and am getting the shuffle because its fairly cheap, and is just so small. the nano is a little less then twice the cost of a shuffle... so i dont think apple's going to be selling a lot of nano's just because of the shuffle shortages

AppleCare

Ok... I usually buy AppleCare along with the iBook, PowerBook, iPod, etc. With the iPod Shuffle being so inexpensive, would getting the AppleCare be worth it?

For the guy who got the Shuffle 2G for $8... I got ya beat:

I bought a 2.33GHz C2D MBP and only got charged for the AppleCare at education price.

If that actually works out when the dust (along with credit cards and internal accounting) settle, then all I have to say is... You lucky S.O.B.! :p

I'm sorry, but that statement is just ignorant. If you recall, Hong Kong was in fact the first country to actually convict someone for illegal file sharing via bit torrent. As well as that, the vast, vast majority of people here are perfectly legal, and buy things either directly from Apple, or from resellers. Simply because a small minority of people choose to buy things in an unethical manner does not mean that all of a sudden, everyone here just goes around stealing everything we get. And how do we all have backward minds? If that were the case, would China be the booming economic hub that it is today?

Yes, some people here steal things and ignore copyright laws. But to generalise and say that over a billion people think and act like that is simply wrong. Every place has some bad apples, but don't let that distort your interpretation of an entire region, especially one as large and diverse as China.

well we will have to disagree then...

china is famous for the incredible amount of forgeries it produces. I find your whole statement very hypocritical and your arguing points are nothing new or a reality for that matter.

ps. do not interpret my response to your post as an intention to start a dialog or debate.

I apologize to all the other people in this thread/forum for the out of topic and completely non apple/tech related post.

I'm sooo glad I got a "stick" iPod Shuffle than the "square" -- it's easier to hold onto and less easy to lose -- or to misplace and accidentally step on.
My thoughts exactly. And my justification for getting the 1GB shuffle was that I was gonna use it as a flash drive... the new one? Well the new one just sucks, cos you have to plug into this thingy, and then plug that in, yada yada yada. What happened to simplicity Apple?

well i'm looking forward to seeing the new shuffles in the Apple Stores. and who knows, i might get one eventually
Things usually tend to grow on me. A visit or two to the store might change my mind on this one, but for right now, I don't see myself wanting the new shuffle.

EDIT: Love the new multi-quote MR! Just had to use it :)

I usually don't like errors, but these ones aren't bad. Makes you wanna order something just to see if the price announced is really the price you will pay. Can you sue them if they don't sll you the stuff for the price that is on the order?

the new shuffle seems pretty sweet.. but one of my favorite things about the old shuffle is that i use it as my flash drive.

...i'm looking forward to when apple makes a shuffle that is the size of a usb plug ;)

Yeah that's the sad thing about the iPod shuffle v2. It requires its special dock do recharge and sync. Of course it's included, but that's not the point. You could recharge and sync an iPod shuffle v1 on pratically any computer.

It syncs from the 3.5mm minijack??????

I wonder if the indicator lights will go through the aluminum like the new Macbook Pro iSight or if it will be a pinhole.

No. That would fall under the category of typographical and clerical errors. You're obligated to pay in full for purchases, and it's best to straighten out the discrepancy quickly rather than be surprised by the sudden charge on your next bill. It would be unfortunate (but entirely the cardholder's fault) if one forgot about the $2000 he spent and then pushed his card over the limit when the missing charge is discovered and applied.

If, on the other hand, you were given an incorrect (but plausible--say being invoiced for a stock config when you added BTO options) total at checkout, you would be given the option of paying the actual price or canceling your order.

I'm travelling down to London with the misses for a weekend away this Saturday and are going to the Regent Street Store to get a new shuffle, as long as they are in! (not saying I'm only going to London for the shuffle!...it's a much needed break regardless!)

I'd imagine if any store was to have the shuffles in if they are in short supply it would be Regent Street (for Europe anyway).

However faced a bit of a dilema. The girlfriend agreed to buy me a shuffle, great!...however she liked the look of the new iPod Nano Product Red and said she would buy me one of those instead, but that they are a little girly in colour so it wouldn't suite me!...i like the product red nano...its a great concept and looks great, but not sure whether it would suite me! hehe!

Anyhoo...been so looking forward to coming home next week with a new shuffle...just keep hoping they get enough in on Saturday/Sunday!

...ooo...quick question...does the new shuffle come with the new headphones?...I know first gallery pictures of it show it with the old headphones, but wasn't sure whether that was final or not.

...mmm...shuffle...:D

I'm hoping somebody makes a small USB adapter for it that's easier to carry around than the dock + cables.

Borders

I saw them for sale last night (SUNDAY) at Border's Bookstore.

I don't need a shuffle, but now I kind of wish I'd bought one just so I could have posted pictures before all you pre-order folks got yours. What can I say, I'm a jerk :D

Ah well, you'll have yours in a day or two and I still won't have a shuffle, so you all can rub it in my face then.

<<Clarification: Some readers seem to be misinterpreting our use of the term '2G'. This article concerns the second generation iPod Shuffle, which has a capacity of 1 Gigabyte (1 GB).>>

What a surprise! To avoid this confusion, why don't you use the term 'G2' to mean "second generation" and leave '2G' to mean 2 GB? Everyone understood G3, G4 and G5 for the PowerPC to mean 'gen' - I'm sure they'd catch on just fine for the various iPods.

I placed an order back on Sept 13th, and it never had a ship date. I cancelled the order.

I placed another order last night, and I have a ship date of November 3rd. If it ships out Nov 3rd, I should have it on Monday, Nov 6th...

It is a cool connector but it's not unique, I think MobiBlu use the same sort of thing for their little Cube music player.

The Dock Connector is owned by Apple and they can make money off anybody wanting to use it. It's also widespread so suddenly changing the connector is going to reeeeally tick the manufacturers off.

Yeah, but it's been done before. Remember when iPods had a firewire port on them> or the remote control port next to the 'phones jack? all the peripherals designed for those can be found on the discount racks in your favorite technology store.
