I received iPod socks for xmas. I gave away 3 of them. Maybe I'll get one each of the iShuffle (I like that name better) to fill them.

Quit your whinging about when you'll get your Shuffle. I live in Australia, and I'm looking at a two week wait for mine.

The reason I decided to get one is because firstly they're small enough to have in your pocket all of the time, and secondly because the vast majority of my iPod listenning is new music that i get, so I focus on only a couple of play lists.

First impression.

Thing is kinda long. If they chopped it down by .5 to 1 inch it would have been great. Looks nice. I think the price point will rock our worlds.

Hey mods, is the ban permanent this time? One can only hope.

I didn't expect to care about this but I am totally getting one! I don't have a flash drive so this will make it easier to transfer files from work when I need to since emailing is a pain, as is burning a CD. I have a 30GB 3G, but this I can take to the beach, leave in my car (my Element has a line in port) and think of it as a 10 CD changer, or take to the beach where I would be scared to take my iPod for fear of getting sand in it or having it stolen when I'm in the water.

I'm torn between the two models. Without a display, 240 songs will be annoying to navigate through when I don't want to shuffle, but more space is good for using as a flash drive. The SF store was out of them today and didn't know when they'd get more. Bummer. It's also bigger than I thought, almost too big. I have a $10 retail store coupon for any $100 purchase which the 512 model doesn't quite cost. So that' pushing me towards the 1GB. But I'd be really upset if I broke or lost or had stolen a $150 device, and not anywhere near as much with a $100 device.

Couple questions I haven't seen answered.
Does it work with USB 2 PCI cards? Can it work on BOTH a PC & a Mac at the same time like a flash drive does? For example, can I load up songs on my mac at home, then plug it in at work to transfer files from my work PC and charge it up at work? Or will it need a reformat each time? The other advantage I see to it is that I often get CDs delivered to work, but I can't normally put them on my mac formatted iPod until I get home. But with this, even if I need to reformat, I could import the CD at work and enjoy my new music on the train ride home!

It will be very interesting to see where they take this product in the next year or two with flash memory only getting cheaper. I think a screen may become necessary eventually.

Another question. Anyone know if it can autofill by genre? that would be awesome to have it randomly choose my Dance songs for the gym.

Well

What happened to all you whiners on the ipod shuffle thread before MW who claimed this thing would suck and it would flop? I say to you - HA HAW in a Nelson voice. You may still not like it but it will sell like candy. You guys acted like Apple just built this and hope someone would buy it. Now go back to your vacuum and sulk please.

This is my new audiobook player.

I'm kind of a "This American Life" junkie (the NPR radio show), and I have over a year's worth of episodes on my iTunes. I could conceivably put them all on my shuffle and listen to five of them, randomly selected, on the way up from LA to the Bay Area...

Or if I go jogging I can just throw one book onto the device and work my way through it, session by session.

Nicely played, Mr. Jobs. Nicely played indeed.

I like it, and will probably buy one, maybe even a mac mini.

One feature I would have liked, would be connection to a regular/mini iPod. I think having an iPod shuffle as an in line remote for my 4G iPod would be handy, even cooler if it had a screen, and/or charged from the iPod itself. But thats just wishful thinking. Perhaps the next gen will allow this. Or maybe something along the lines of what I saw at CES, an MP3 player that works with any USB thumb drive as its memory.

Like I said, ill probably get one just because of the price, especially when compared to regular 512MB flash cards.

I just ordered mine!

I know I may be affected by the RDF... but for that price?? I couldn't help it.
Besides, I have a "need" for it, since I gave my silver mini to my girlfriend and I love listening to music while at work (In customer svc, believe me, I need it to relax  )

As someone mentioned before, I was originally inclined to buy the 512MB model because "scrolling" through 240 songs seems painful... but I couldn't help it. :p
I thought I'd regret not buying the 1Gb model later on, and having a drive would be nice to move files between macs... So even if I don't fill it up with music, 1Gb seemed a better buy in the end.

Someone posted before that once the so-called iPhone was introduced, there would be no need for the suffle... well... that's if you wanna pay full retail price for a new cell phone ($200, $300 for a standard phone)... doesn't seem to be a good deal.

As for the lack of screen... well... look at the displays of the other flash-based players... they're clugged, with little info, and fugly...
Besides, what good is it to look at the name of the file if you are already listening to it? I think the experience of using it if it had a screen would be much more frustrating than without... thus it was a wise decision to leave that out.

Good features for really good price +iTMS... I'm in! :D
Hope my order ships soon... 1-2 weeks??
I can't wait !!

My girl friend has been saving up her money for a pb and ipod. Today she said she wants the new pod because they are small and she wanted a flash drive for school too. So this new product fits too of her needs. Plus I am glad she is getting it because she can some how break every pice of electronic that she touches if she breaks this its not going to be a lot of money to replace. Still waiting for a pb update. when do you think apple is going to update the pb line. I told her next tue but not so sure. I dont know how much longer I can make her hold off she needs it for school. :)

what key features make her require a pb? an ibook would be a better choice, even the lower end 14" at the current price. its just as a capable a laptop as the pb is, but lacks a few degrees of expandability. she could save herself quite a bit of money if she doesnt NEED the few advantages the pb offers.

I'm getting one, most likely the 1 GB model. The lack of screen is not an issue. I've had two ipods. An original 5GB, given to an e-friend in germany, hope you're enjoying it hobie, and a G4 60 GB, given to me by a friend, thanks troy. :) I never really used the screen much, except to get them to start playing from my favorites playlist. Shuffle is the way I almost always listen to my itunes or ipod now, so it will work out fine for me. Hmmm, you know, this could work as a nice thank you gift for a certain friend too. ;)

"So I think the whole industry will just laugh at it, because the flash people -- it's worse than the cheapest Chinese player. Even the cheap, cheap Chinese brand today has display and has FM. They don't have this kind of thing, and they expect to come out with a fight; I think it's a non-starter to begin with."

A case of sour grapes. He doesn't seem to realize in the flash player market, people are turned off by small screens and awkward knobs. Nor for the fact, no stand-out jukebox player that is essential for managing songs.

OK, but these are not really comparable to the iPod shuffle. The 512kb one costs $199, almost as much as the iPod mini.
I was referencing the individual's original message where he was looking at a Movu MP3 player vice the iPod Shuffle.

IMHO, one of these iAudio solutions would be worth considering in his case.

The rest of the MP3 player market can kiss their arses goodbye! I've already convinved 3 people to buy one of these, and four or five people that say my 20gb iPod asked me if I had seen the iPod Shuffle yet. So the word is out! With the Shuffle, Apple will RULE THE WORLD! (as Plankton would say - if you don't know who Plankton is you're really missing out!)

This player makes PERFECT sense. A screen would be senseless! I've had an iRock 256mb for the longest time now and it has a screen. I don't remember ever even looking at it. Just skipping through on random.

Go Apple! It's your birthday! It's your birthday, birthday, birthday! :D

Out of morbid curiosity to those who have already procured their iPod Shuffles:

I heard iPods are coming with the Apple stickers now, do the iPod Shuffles come with the Apple stickers as well?

Not that it makes an impact on my decision to purchase one (I already decided I am getting the 1 GB one) but I was just curious.

$200 for a 512 Mb ipod shuffle at ebay??????????

so the ebay preices for the ipod shuffles range between $170 and $200. who would pay 50 to 100 dollar more? just because of a few days delivery?

or are they sold out already? aren't they available at the apple stores by now?

andi

UK ship dates (on the uk apple store) for the 1gb have gone up to three weeks from two.

Checked eBay uk also and as expected people are bidding up to £160.00 for a 1gb that the seller has ordered from the uk apple store, suckers?

I ordered my 1gb minutes after the keynote info was posted on macintouch so I'm hoping it ships on the 25th as stated.

Cheers

The Apple Store on Michigan Avenue here in Chicago said they were expecting them in on the 22nd. They didn't even have any display models on hand or Ads for them!

I keep wondering how secure the iPod shuffle's cap is. If you hang the iPod around your neck and turn your body quickly, might it "fly off the handle"?

click and orders

Fast Forwarding...

I just bought the 1 Gig and althought having buyers remorse now I am sure I will love it when I get it.

However I read through all the posts and am wondering the same question as someone previously. If I am listening to a song/audiobook, can I hold down the next song button to fast forward through it?

Thanks for the help should anyone already have one and know the answer.... the people one this site always seem to be able to help me out.

P.S. to all the naysayers, buy an ipod or be quiet, no one cares if you don't want one.

When you click the button it will skip to the end of item. Two clicks go to two songs. I wonder if you can hold it down and fast forward through a bunch.
