The scroll wheel looks to be not a click wheel. Yes, it is set up like the minis. If you look closely you see the scroll wheel is built in not out like the click wheel. So, the looks of it it is touch sensitive.

I agree. The wheel does not seem clickable. If that makes sense at all.

I just sent my defective 20gb to apple for replacement friday. Think I'll get the new scroll wheel as replacement?

you won't get the new scroll wheel as the replacement. you'll always get the same generation and same model and size as you bought originally.

speaking of the cover, here it is:

What's going on with Apple!!???

Everything is getting officially leaked before their official announcement, either by them or by others. Are they changing their rules of announcing products?

I believe it is clickable. on the full size cover the wheel looks raised a tiny bit, not built in...hmm hard to tell though

This is almost the samething that happened when the new iMac came out, some magazine cover got released before apple's original announcement. I guess the only thing new we'll find out monday, is the price, hard drive size, and new software features.

well, one new software feature = shuffle, which i would imagine is the same as itunes shuffle feature. suits me fine. I love that feature.

Menu choices on the iPod screen: Music, Extras, Settings, Shuffle Songs, and Backlight.

Text at the bottom of the Newsweek cover: Steve Jobs with the new iPod.

that was Time and yes, it showed the new iMac with Jobs and Ives (?) on the cover with the iMac. i doubt there'll be any new features, and if there are, i assume that a lot of them will be available to the 3Gen iPods.

i don't like how it has a music menu instead of playlists and browse. i like being able to choose between the two instead of just having music. and having shuffle songs right on the main menu is stupid since you can just go to settings and set that yourself.

Glad to see the new models coming and them moving to something that is similar to the superior ipod mini wheel

There are bound to be other features but those expecting too many changes are going to be disappointed. Products in demand shouldn't change much until demand has been met.

I'm happy with the way Apple has maximized iPod potential.

Doh, i got a silver Mini in Feb. (I must have gotten lucky). Now I am jealous. Specially if they have this in a 10gig.

now, why would they do a thing like that? that is totally backwards.

Maybe the playlist and browse are the sub menu's to music menu. I wonder if there will be a software update for iPod 3G's and iTunes?

I agree, there is a shadow around the bottom right corner of the scroll wheel when you look at the full size picture.

Now to see what kind of features it has. Doesn't seem like a huge jump compared to the 1G/2G to the 3G. It's more of a half-step by looking at the picture.

Now, if we've got wireless, and some other cool features that's 4G only (I'm assuming Shuffle will be available by firmware update for the older gens), I think I'll have to consider an upgrade.

Two things:

- Steve Jobs is going to be angry about this leak.
- Thankfully it doesn't look different enough to warrant me buying a new one, which is always a real danger when Apple release new products.

edit: Argh I'm thinking of how convenient that click wheel will be. Save me from myself.

AppleMatt

i'm sure that the new software features will be available as a firmware update for 3Gen iPods. but i'm sure that there's not much more in features. it's not even a half step, it's just a movement of buttons and nothing else.

wonder how long till apple gets pissed at the magazine and makes them take it down...

Pissed?? doubt it... I don't think Apple care, It's not like there is going to be a keynote dedicated to this release or anything... The media bombardment is going to ferocious...

Yeah, but on the new one, you could just go to Settings>Main Menu and turn off "Shuffle Songs" and "Music", then turn on "Playlists" and "Browse." Remember, the Main Menu is pretty much fully customizable.

It's a click wheel just like the mini. The photo has little depth to it. There is a slight suggestion of depth at the bottom of the wheel in the photo below. But it is only a 2D photo and doesn't faithfully represent the product. (When shown on the website it will be heavily photoshopped to emphasize various parts, as is always done). Apple spent money developing the wheel. They have a patent pending on it and they sure as hell will use it. Here's a higher rez version of the cover:
