$249 for 4 GB or $249 for 20 GB, 5x more! I understand why this can be, but do you all remember that thread right after MWSF '04 with everyone screaming about how for only $50 more.....:D

Exactly As I Expected As Soon As I Saw The iPod-Mini Interface

Exactly As I Expected As Soon As I Saw The iPod-Mini Interface. I immediately said "this will be the interface of the next regular iPod." It is the ultimate interface and worth waiting for. Whoopie!

FYI if you read this you will fnd no details on the new iPod.. simply a discussion of the history of the iPod :(

Since this is article that will appear in the issue itself, what are we to make of this:

NEWSWEEK said:
Music hits people's emotions, and the purchase of something that opens up one's entire music collection—up to 10,000 songs in your pocket—makes for an intense relationship.

10,000? Higher capacities up to 60GB would be 15,000, no?

Surely the article would have up to date specs with the new models....

Wish it had details

Maybe this is why there is not a huge issue with the new picture coming out.. there arent't any details in the article..

No details, but there is a reference to it on page 3.

How is it that Newsweek can break the story about new iPods before anyone else (granted, it was obviously given to them) but the monthly Apple magazines are always three months or so behind the curve. Whatever comes out on Monday, we won't read about it in MacWorld until well into the college football season.

ps. I know that it's the nature of the publishing industry, but come on...

Duff-Man says...if those are true...as soon as we hear about the ever important battery factor, and if that is up to spec too, then I won't hesitate to order the mid model...which should come in at about $480cdn (including the $25 your-a-pirate tax)....oh yeah!

wonder how long till apple gets pissed at the magazine and makes them take it down...

Um, doesn't look to me like they ambushed Steve Jobs with a camera and just happened to catch him with the new iPod. Dude, think about it.

Maybe they plan on discounting them soon or maybe they plan on upgrading the HD's soon...

But for some folks size is everything. I mean look how much those small sony notebooks cost over in Japan..they are selling for around $3k if not over.

i think you mean rorschach ink blot :p ;)

back on topic, i think the new iPods look great. we'll hopefully get greater battery life and perhaps another apple innovation into the iPod. even if it may not be able to stream music (maybe it will be able to) people will still want one. although i think i'll keep my 3G iPod for many years to come. :)

Duff-Man says...completely different schedule for a monthly than for a high-volume weekly like Newsweek or Time. And who is to say when this article was actually written - obviously Apple has been working on new iPods for a while - Steve didn't just pull one out of his hat this week for a Newsweek article...could have been written weeks ago with early pre-production model used for the pictures...oh yeah!

Pricing

If prices do drop as rumored ($249 for a 20GB 4g), how long 'til we see this price reflected on the current models. Do the Apple Stores keep selling 3gs at lower prices?

And if this is correct, should we expect the iPod mini's price to drop too?

Just wondering 'cause i'll be in the US in the next week and would love to get a cheeper price on a pod (4g won't come out to the shelves for what, a month or two?)

anyone think maybe the click wheel could be aluminum and still have backlit letters ie visa vi powerbook keyboards?

the clickwheel kinda looks aluminum which could support the idea that thinksecret said the clickwheel will be different colors???
